Salutation

Paul 3972, a bond-servant 1401 of God 2316 and an apostle 652 of Jesus 2424 Christ 5547, for the faith 4102 of those chosen 1588 of God 2316 and the knowledge 1922 of the truth 225 which is according 2596 to godliness 2150,
2 in the hope 1680 of eternal 166 life 2222, which 3739 God 2316, who 893 cannot 893 lie 893, promised 1861 long 5550 ages 5550 ago 4253,
3 but at the proper 2398 time 2540 manifested 5319, {even} His word 3056, in the proclamation 2782 with which 3739 I was entrusted 4100 according 2596 to the commandment 2003 of God 2316 our Savior 4990,
4 ¶ To Titus 5103, my true 1103 child 5043 in a common 2839 faith 4102: Grace 5485 and peace 1515 from God 2316 the Father 3962 and Christ 5547 Jesus 2424 our Savior 4990.

Qualifications of Elders

¶ For this 3778 reason 5484 I left 620 you in Crete 2914, that you would set 1930 in order 1930 what remains 3007 and appoint 2525 elders 4245 in every 2596 city 4172 as I directed 1299 you,
6 {namely,} if 1487 any 5100 man 5100 is above 410 reproach 410, the husband 435 of one 1520 wife 1135, having 2192 children 5043 who 4103 believe 4103, not accused 2724 of dissipation 810 or 2228 rebellion 506.
7 For the overseer 1985 must 1163 be above 410 reproach 410 as God's 2316 steward 3623, not self-willed 829, not quick-tempered 3711, not addicted 3943 to wine 3943, not pugnacious 4131, not fond 146 of sordid 146 gain 146,
8 but hospitable 5382, loving 5358 what 5358 is good 5358, sensible 4998, just 1342, devout 3741, self-controlled 1468,
9 holding 472 fast 472 the faithful 4103 word 3056 which is in accordance 2596 with the teaching 1322, so 2443 that he will be able 1415 both 2532 to exhort 3870 in sound 5198 doctrine 1319 and to refute 1651 those 3588 who contradict 483.
10 ¶ For there are many 4183 rebellious 506 men 506, empty 3151 talkers 3151 and deceivers 5423, especially 3122 those 3588 of the circumcision 4061,
11 who 3739 must 1163 be silenced 1993 because 3748 they are upsetting 396 whole 3650 families 3624, teaching 1321 things 3739 they should 1163 not {teach} for the sake 5484 of sordid 150 gain 2771.
12 One 5100 of themselves 846, a prophet 4396 of their own 2398, said 3004, "Cretans 2912 are always 104 liars 5583, evil 2556 beasts 2342, lazy 692 gluttons 1064."
13 This 3778 testimony 3141 is true 227. For this 3739 reason 156 reprove 1651 them severely 664 so 2443 that they may be sound 5198 in the faith 4102,
14 not paying 4337 attention 4337 to Jewish 2451 myths 3454 and commandments 1785 of men 444 who turn 654 away 654 from the truth 225.
15 To the pure 2513, all 3956 things 3956 are pure 2513; but to those 3588 who are defiled 3392 and unbelieving 571, nothing 3762 is pure 2513, but both 2532 their mind 3563 and their conscience 4893 are defiled 3392.
16 They profess 3670 to know 3609 God 2316, but by {their} deeds 2041 they deny 720 {Him,} being 1510 detestable 947 and disobedient 545 and worthless 96 for any 3956 good 18 deed 2041.

Duties of the Older and Younger

But as for you, speak 2980 the things which 3739 are fitting 4241 for sound 5198 doctrine 1319.
2 Older 4246 men 4246 are to be temperate 3524, dignified 4586, sensible 4998, sound 5198 in faith 4102, in love 26, in perseverance 5281.
3 ¶ Older 4247 women 4247 likewise 5615 are to be reverent 2412 in their behavior 2688, not malicious 1228 gossips 1228 nor 3366 enslaved 1402 to much 4183 wine 3631, teaching 2567 what 2567 is good 2567,
4 so 2443 that they may encourage 4994 the young 3501 women 3501 to love 5362 their husbands 5362, to love 5388 their children 5388,
5 {to be} sensible 4998, pure 53, workers 3626 at home 3626, kind 18, being subject 5293 to their own 2398 husbands 435, so 2443 that the word 3056 of God 2316 will not be dishonored 987.
6 ¶ Likewise 5615 urge 3870 the young 3501 men 3501 to be sensible 4993;
7 in all 3956 things 3956 show 3930 yourself 4572 to be an example 5179 of good 2570 deeds 2041, {with} purity 862 in doctrine 1319, dignified 4587,
8 sound 5199 {in} speech 3056 which 176 is beyond 176 reproach 176, so 2443 that the opponent 1727 will be put 1788 to shame 1788, having 2192 nothing 3367 bad 5337 to say 3004 about 4012 us.
9 ¶ {Urge} bondslaves 1401 to be subject 5293 to their own 2398 masters 1203 in everything 3956, to be well-pleasing 2101, not argumentative 483,
10 not pilfering 3557, but showing 1731 all 3956 good 18 faith 4102 so 2443 that they will adorn 2885 the doctrine 1319 of God 2316 our Savior 4990 in every 3956 respect 3956.
11 ¶ For the grace 5485 of God 2316 has appeared 2014, bringing 4992 salvation 4992 to all 3956 men 444,
12 instructing 3811 us to deny 720 ungodliness 763 and worldly 2886 desires 1939 and to live 2198 sensibly 4996, righteously 1346 and godly 2153 in the present 3568 age 165,
13 looking 4327 for the blessed 3107 hope 1680 and the appearing 2015 of the glory 1391 of our great 3173 God 2316 and Savior 4990, Christ 5547 Jesus 2424,
14 who 3739 gave 1325 Himself 1438 for us to redeem 3084 us from every 3956 lawless 458 deed 458, and to purify 2511 for Himself 1438 a people 2992 for His own 1438 possession 4041, zealous 2207 for good 2570 deeds 2041.
15 ¶ These 3778 things 3778 speak 2980 and exhort 3870 and reprove 1651 with all 3956 authority 2003. Let no 3367 one 3367 disregard 4065 you.

Chapter 3

Godly Living

Remind 5279 them to be subject 5293 to rulers 746, to authorities 1849, to be obedient 3980, to be ready 2092 for every 3956 good 18 deed 2041,
2 to malign 987 no 3367 one 3367, to be peaceable 269, gentle 1933, showing 1731 every 3956 consideration 4240 for all 3956 men 444.
3 For we also 2532 once 4218 were foolish 453 ourselves 2249, disobedient 545, deceived 4105, enslaved 1398 to various 4164 lusts 1939 and pleasures 2237, spending 1236 our life 1236 in malice 2549 and envy 5355, hateful 4767, hating 3404 one 240 another 240.
4 But when 3753 the kindness 5544 of God 2316 our Savior 4990 and {His} love 5363 for mankind 5363 appeared 2014,
5 He saved 4982 us, not on the basis 1537 of deeds 2041 which 3739 we have done 4160 in righteousness 1343, but according 2596 to His mercy 1656, by the washing 3067 of regeneration 3824 and renewing 342 by the Holy 40 Spirit 4151,
6 whom 3739 He poured 1632 out upon us richly 4146 through 1223 Jesus 2424 Christ 5547 our Savior 4990,
7 so 2443 that being justified 1344 by His grace 5485 we would be made 1096 heirs 2818 according 2596 to {the} hope 1680 of eternal 166 life 2222.
8 This 3588 is a trustworthy 4103 statement 3056; and concerning 4012 these 3778 things 3778 I want 1014 you to speak 1226 confidently 1226, so 2443 that those 3588 who have believed 4100 God 2316 will be careful 5431 to engage 4291 in good 2570 deeds 2041. These 3778 things 3778 are good 2570 and profitable 5624 for men 444.
9 But avoid 4026 foolish 3474 controversies 2214 and genealogies 1076 and strife 2054 and disputes 3163 about the Law 3544, for they are unprofitable 512 and worthless 3152.
10 Reject 3868 a factious 141 man 444 after 3326 a first 1520 and second 1208 warning 3559,
11 knowing 3609 that such 5108 a man 5108 is perverted 1612 and is sinning 264, being 1510 self-condemned 843.
12

Personal Concerns

¶ When 3752 I send 3992 Artemas 734 or 2228 Tychicus 5190 to you, make 4704 every 4704 effort 4704 to come 2064 to me at Nicopolis 3533, for I have decided 2919 to spend 3914 the winter 3914 there 1563.
13 Diligently 4709 help 4311 Zenas 2211 the lawyer 3544 and Apollos 625 on their way 4311 so 2443 that nothing 3367 is lacking 3007 for them.
14 Our people 3588 must also 2532 learn 3129 to engage 4291 in good 2570 deeds 2041 to meet pressing 316 needs 5532, so 2443 that they will not be unfruitful 175.
15 ¶ All 3956 who 3588 are with me greet 782 you. Greet 782 those 3588 who love 5368 us in {the} faith 4102.
