Conception and Birth of Jesus

¶ Now 1161 the birth 1078 of Jesus 2424 Christ 5547 was as follows 3779: when His mother 3384 Mary 3137 had been betrothed 3423 to Joseph 2501, before 4250 they came 4905 together 4905 she was found 2147 to be with child by the Holy 40 Spirit 4151.
19 And Joseph 2501 her husband 435, being 1510 a righteous 1342 man 1342 and not wanting 2309 to disgrace 1165 her, planned 1014 to send 630 her away 630 secretly 2977.
20 But when he had considered 1760 this 3778, behold 2400, an angel 32 of the Lord 2962 appeared 5316 to him in a dream 3677, saying 3004, "Joseph 2501, son 5207 of David 1160, do not be afraid 5399 to take 3880 Mary 3137 as your wife 1135; for the Child who 3588 has been conceived 1080 in her is of the Holy 40 Spirit 4151.
21 "She will bear 5088 a Son 5207; and you shall call 2564 His name 3686 Jesus 2424, for He will save 4982 His people 2992 from their sins 266."
22 Now 1161 all 3650 this 3778 took 1096 place 1096 to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 by the Lord 2962 through 1223 the prophet 4396:
23 "BEHOLD 2400, THE VIRGIN 3933 SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR 5088 A SON 5207, AND THEY SHALL CALL 2564 HIS NAME 3686 IMMANUEL 1694," which 3739 translated 3177 means 1510, "GOD 2316 WITH US."
24 And Joseph 2501 awoke 1453 from his sleep 5258 and did 4160 as the angel 32 of the Lord 2962 commanded 4367 him, and took 3880 {Mary} as his wife 1135,
25 but kept her a virgin until 2193 she gave 5088 birth 5088 to a Son 5207; and he called 2564 His name 3686 Jesus 2424.

Chapter 2

1

The Visit of the Magi

Now 1161 after Jesus 2424 was born 1080 in Bethlehem 965 of Judea 2453 in the days 2250 of Herod 2264 the king 935, magi 3097 from the east 395 arrived 3854 in Jerusalem 2414, saying 3004,
2 "Where 4226 is He who has been born 5088 King 935 of the Jews 2453? For we saw 3708 His star 792 in the east 395 and have come 2064 to worship 4352 Him."
3 When Herod 2264 the king 935 heard 191 {this,} he was troubled 5015, and all 3956 Jerusalem 2414 with him.
4 Gathering 4863 together 4863 all 3956 the chief 749 priests 749 and scribes 1122 of the people 2992, he inquired 4441 of them where 4226 the Messiah 5547 was to be born 1080.
5 They said 3004 to him, "In Bethlehem 965 of Judea 2453; for this 3779 is what 3704 has been written 1125 by the prophet 4396:
6 'AND YOU, BETHLEHEM 965, LAND 1093 OF JUDAH 2455, ARE BY NO 3760 MEANS 3760 LEAST 1646 AMONG 1722 THE LEADERS 2233 OF JUDAH 2455; FOR OUT OF YOU SHALL COME 1831 FORTH 1831 A RULER 2233 WHO 3748 WILL SHEPHERD 4165 MY PEOPLE 2992 ISRAEL 2474.'"
7 ¶ Then 5119 Herod 2264 secretly 2977 called 2564 the magi 3097 and determined 198 from them the exact 5550 time 5550 the star 792 appeared 5316.
8 And he sent 3992 them to Bethlehem 965 and said 3004, "Go 4198 and search 1833 carefully 199 for the Child 3813; and when 1875 you have found 2147 {Him,} report 518 to me, so 3704 that I too 2532 may come 2064 and worship 4352 Him."
9 After 1161 hearing 191 the king 935, they went 4198 their way 4198; and the star 792, which 3739 they had seen 3708 in the east 395, went 4254 on before 4254 them until 2193 it came 2064 and stood 2476 over 1883 {the place} where 3757 the Child 3813 was.
10 When they saw 3708 the star 792, they rejoiced 5463 exceedingly 4970 with great 3173 joy 5479.
11 After 2532 coming 2064 into the house 3614 they saw 3708 the Child 3813 with Mary 3137 His mother 3384; and they fell 4098 to the ground and worshiped 4352 Him. Then 2532, opening 455 their treasures 2344, they presented 4374 to Him gifts 1435 of gold 5557, frankincense 3030, and myrrh 4666.
12 And having been warned 5537 {by God} in a dream 3677 not to return 344 to Herod 2264, the magi left 402 for their own country 5561 by another 243 way 3598.
13

The Flight to Egypt

¶ Now 1161 when they had gone 402, behold 2400, an angel 32 of the Lord 2962 appeared 5316 to Joseph 2501 in a dream 3677 and said 3004, "Get 1453 up! Take 3880 the Child 3813 and His mother 3384 and flee 5343 to Egypt 125, and remain 1510 there 1563 until 2193 I tell 3004 you; for Herod 2264 is going 3195 to search 2212 for the Child 3813 to destroy 622 Him."
14 ¶ So 1161 Joseph got 1453 up and took 3880 the Child 3813 and His mother 3384 while it was still night 3571, and left 402 for Egypt 125.
15 He remained 1510 there 1563 until 2193 the death 5054 of Herod 2264. {This was} to fulfill 4137 what 3588 had been spoken 3004 by the Lord 2962 through 1223 the prophet 4396: "OUT OF EGYPT 125 I CALLED 2564 MY SON 5207."
16

Herod Slaughters Babies

¶ Then 5119 when Herod 2264 saw 3708 that he had been tricked 1702 by the magi 3097, he became very 3029 enraged 2373, and sent 649 and slew 337 all 3956 the male 3816 children 3816 who were in Bethlehem 965 and all 3956 its vicinity 3725, from two 1332 years 1332 old 1332 and under 2736, according 2596 to the time 5550 which 3739 he had determined 198 from the magi 3097.
17 Then 5119 what 3588 had been spoken 3004 through 1223 Jeremiah 2408 the prophet 4396 was fulfilled 4137:
18 "A VOICE 5456 WAS HEARD 191 IN RAMAH 4471, WEEPING 2805 AND GREAT 4183 MOURNING 3602, RACHEL 4478 WEEPING 2805 FOR HER CHILDREN 5043; AND SHE REFUSED TO BE COMFORTED 3870, BECAUSE 3754 THEY WERE NO 3756 MORE."
19 ¶ But when Herod 2264 died 5053, behold 2400, an angel 32 of the Lord 2962 appeared 5316 in a dream 3677 to Joseph 2501 in Egypt 125, and said 3004,
20 "Get 1453 up, take 3880 the Child 3813 and His mother 3384, and go 4198 into the land 1093 of Israel 2474; for those 3588 who sought 2212 the Child's 3813 life 5590 are dead 2348."
21 So 1161 Joseph got 1453 up, took 3880 the Child 3813 and His mother 3384, and came 1525 into the land 1093 of Israel 2474.
22 But when he heard 191 that Archelaus 745 was reigning 936 over Judea 2453 in place 473 of his father 3962 Herod 2264, he was afraid 5399 to go 565 there 1563. Then 1161 after being warned 5537 {by God} in a dream 3677, he left 402 for the regions 3313 of Galilee 1056,
23 and came 2064 and lived 2730 in a city 4172 called 3004 Nazareth 3478. {This was} to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 through 1223 the prophets 4396: "He shall be called 2564 a Nazarene 3480."

Chapter 3

1

The Preaching of John the Baptist

Now 1161 in those 1565 days 2250 John 2491 the Baptist 910 came 3854, preaching 2784 in the wilderness 2048 of Judea 2453, saying 3004,
2 "Repent 3340, for the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is at hand 1448."
3 For this 3778 is the one referred 3004 to by Isaiah 2268 the prophet 4396 when he said 3004, "THE VOICE 5456 OF ONE CRYING 994 IN THE WILDERNESS 2048, 'MAKE 2090 READY 2090 THE WAY 3598 OF THE LORD 2962, MAKE 4160 HIS PATHS 5147 STRAIGHT 2117!'"
4 Now 1161 John 2491 himself 846 had 2192 a garment 1742 of camel's 2574 hair 2359 and a leather 1193 belt 2223 around 4012 his waist 3751; and his food 5160 was locusts 200 and wild 66 honey 3192.
5 Then 5119 Jerusalem 2414 was going 1607 out to him, and all 3956 Judea 2453 and all 3956 the district 4066 around 4066 the Jordan 2446;
6 and they were being baptized 907 by him in the Jordan 2446 River 4215, as they confessed 1843 their sins 266.
7 ¶ But when he saw 3708 many 4183 of the Pharisees 5330 and Sadducees 4523 coming 2064 for baptism 908, he said 3004 to them, "You brood 1081 of vipers 2191, who 5101 warned 5263 you to flee 5343 from the wrath 3709 to come 3195?
8 "Therefore 3767 bear 4160 fruit 2590 in keeping 514 with repentance 3341;
9 and do not suppose 1380 that you can say 3004 to yourselves 1438, 'We have 2192 Abraham 11 for our father 3962'; for I say 3004 to you that from these 3778 stones 3037 God 2316 is able 1410 to raise 1453 up children 5043 to Abraham 11.
10 "The axe 513 is already 2235 laid 2749 at the root 4491 of the trees 1186; therefore 3767 every 3956 tree 1186 that does not bear 4160 good 2570 fruit 2590 is cut 1581 down 1581 and thrown 906 into the fire 4442.
11 ¶ "As for me, I baptize 907 you with water 5204 for repentance 3341, but He who is coming 2064 after 3694 me is mightier 2478 than I, and I am 1510 not fit 2425 to remove 941 His sandals 5266; He will baptize 907 you with the Holy 40 Spirit 4151 and fire 4442.
12 "His winnowing 4425 fork 4425 is in His hand 5495, and He will thoroughly 1245 clear 1245 His threshing 257 floor 257; and He will gather 4863 His wheat 4621 into the barn 596, but He will burn 2618 up the chaff 892 with unquenchable 762 fire 4442."
13

The Baptism of Jesus

Then 5119 Jesus 2424 arrived 3854 from Galilee 1056 at the Jordan 2446 {coming} to John 2491, to be baptized 907 by him.
14 But John 2491 tried to prevent 1254 Him, saying 3004, "I have 2192 need 5532 to be baptized 907 by You, and do You come 2064 to me?"
15 But Jesus 2424 answering 611 said 3004 to him, "Permit 863 {it} at this 737 time 737; for in this 3779 way 3779 it is fitting 4241 for us to fulfill 4137 all 3956 righteousness 1343." Then 5119 he permitted 863 Him.
16 After being baptized 907, Jesus 2424 came 305 up immediately 2117 from the water 5204; and behold 2400, the heavens 3772 were opened 455, and he saw 3708 the Spirit 4151 of God 2316 descending 2597 as a dove 4058 {and} lighting 2064 on Him,
17 and behold 2400, a voice 5456 out of the heavens 3772 said 3004, "This 3778 is My beloved 27 Son 5207, in whom 3739 I am 2106 well-pleased 2106."

Chapter 4

1

The Temptation of Jesus

Then 5119 Jesus 2424 was led 321 up by the Spirit 4151 into the wilderness 2048 to be tempted 3985 by the devil 1228.
2 And after He had fasted 3522 forty 5065 days 2250 and forty 5065 nights 3571, He then 5306 became hungry 3983.
3 And the tempter 3985 came 4334 and said 3004 to Him, "If 1487 You are the Son 5207 of God 2316, command 3004 that these 3778 stones 3037 become 1096 bread 740."
4 But He answered 611 and said 3004, "It is written 1125, 'MAN 444 SHALL NOT LIVE 2198 ON BREAD 740 ALONE 3441, BUT ON EVERY 3956 WORD 4487 THAT PROCEEDS 1607 OUT OF THE MOUTH 4750 OF GOD 2316.'"
5 ¶ Then 5119 the devil 1228 took 3880 Him into the holy 40 city 4172 and had Him stand 2476 on the pinnacle 4419 of the temple 2413,
6 and said 3004 to Him, "If 1487 You are the Son 5207 of God 2316, throw 906 Yourself 4572 down 2736; for it is written 1125, 'HE WILL COMMAND 1781 HIS ANGELS 32 CONCERNING 4012 YOU'; and 'ON {their} HANDS 5495 THEY WILL BEAR 142 YOU UP, SO 3379 THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE 4350 YOUR FOOT 4228 AGAINST 4314 A STONE 3037.'"
7 Jesus 2424 said 5346 to him, "On the other 3825 hand 3825, it is written 1125, 'YOU SHALL NOT PUT 1598 THE LORD 2962 YOUR GOD 2316 TO THE TEST 1598.'"
8 ¶ Again 3825, the devil 1228 took 3880 Him to a very 3029 high 5308 mountain 3735 and showed 1166 Him all 3956 the kingdoms 932 of the world 2889 and their glory 1391;
9 and he said 3004 to Him, "All 3956 these 3778 things 3778 I will give 1325 You, if 1437 You fall 4098 down 4098 and worship 4352 me."
10 Then 5119 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "Go 5217, Satan 4567! For it is written 1125, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP 4352 THE LORD 2962 YOUR GOD 2316, AND SERVE 3000 HIM ONLY 3441.'"
11 Then 5119 the devil 1228 left 863 Him; and behold 2400, angels 32 came 4334 and {began} to minister 1247 to Him.
12

Jesus Begins His Ministry

¶ Now 1161 when Jesus heard 191 that John 2491 had been taken 3860 into custody 3860, He withdrew 402 into Galilee 1056;
13 and leaving 2641 Nazareth 3478, He came 2064 and settled 2730 in Capernaum 2746, which is by the sea 3864, in the region 3725 of Zebulun 2194 and Naphtali 3508.
14 {This was} to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 through 1223 Isaiah 2268 the prophet 4396:
15 "THE LAND 1093 OF ZEBULUN 2194 AND THE LAND 1093 OF NAPHTALI 3508, BY THE WAY 3598 OF THE SEA 2281, BEYOND 4008 THE JORDAN 2446, GALILEE 1056 OF THE GENTILES 1484--
16 "THE PEOPLE 2992 WHO WERE SITTING 2521 IN DARKNESS 4653 SAW 3708 A GREAT 3173 LIGHT 5457, AND THOSE 3588 WHO WERE SITTING 2521 IN THE LAND 5561 AND SHADOW 4639 OF DEATH 2288, UPON THEM A LIGHT 5457 DAWNED 393."
17 ¶ From that time 5119 Jesus 2424 began 757 to preach 2784 and say 3004, "Repent 3340, for the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is at hand 1448."
18

The First Disciples

Now as Jesus was walking 4043 by the Sea 2281 of Galilee 1056, He saw 3708 two 1417 brothers 80, Simon 4613 who was called 3004 Peter 4074, and Andrew 406 his brother 80, casting 906 a net 293 into the sea 2281; for they were fishermen 231.
19 And He said 3004 to them, "Follow Me, and I will make 4160 you fishers 231 of men 444."
20 Immediately 2112 they left 863 their nets 1350 and followed 190 Him.
21 Going 4260 on from there 1564 He saw 3708 two 1417 other 243 brothers 80, James 2385 the {son} of Zebedee 2199, and John 2491 his brother 80, in the boat 4143 with Zebedee 2199 their father 3962, mending 2675 their nets 1350; and He called 2564 them.
22 Immediately 2112 they left 863 the boat 4143 and their father 3962, and followed 190 Him.
23

Ministry in Galilee

¶ Jesus was going 4013 throughout 4013 all 3650 Galilee 1056, teaching 1321 in their synagogues 4864 and proclaiming 2784 the gospel 2098 of the kingdom 932, and healing 2323 every 3956 kind 3956 of disease 3554 and every 3956 kind 3956 of sickness 3119 among 1722 the people 2992.
24 ¶ The news 189 about Him spread 565 throughout 1519 all 3650 Syria 4947; and they brought 4374 to Him all 3956 who were ill, those suffering 4912 with various 4164 diseases 3554 and pains 931, demoniacs 1139, epileptics 4583, paralytics 3885; and He healed 2323 them.
25 Large 4183 crowds 3793 followed 190 Him from Galilee 1056 and {the} Decapolis 1179 and Jerusalem 2414 and Judea 2453 and {from} beyond 4008 the Jordan 2446.

Chapter 5

1

The Sermon on the Mount; The Beatitudes

When Jesus saw 3708 the crowds 3793, He went 305 up on the mountain 3735; and after He sat 2523 down 2523, His disciples 3101 came 4334 to Him.
2 He opened 455 His mouth 4750 and {began} to teach 1321 them, saying 3004,
3 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are the poor 4434 in spirit 4151, for theirs 846 is the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
4 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are those 3588 who mourn 3996, for they shall be comforted 3870.
5 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are the gentle 4239, for they shall inherit 2816 the earth 1093.
6 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are those 3588 who hunger 3983 and thirst 1372 for righteousness 1343, for they shall be satisfied 5526.
7 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are the merciful 1655, for they shall receive 1653 mercy 1653.
8 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are the pure 2513 in heart 2588, for they shall see 3708 God 2316.
9 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are the peacemakers 1518, for they shall be called 2564 sons 5207 of God 2316.
10 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are those 3588 who have been persecuted 1377 for the sake 1752 of righteousness 1343, for theirs 846 is the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
11 ¶ "Blessed 3107 are you when 3752 {people} insult 3679 you and persecute 1377 you, and falsely 5574 say 3004 all 3956 kinds 3956 of evil 4190 against 2596 you because 1752 of Me.
12 "Rejoice 5463 and be glad 21, for your reward 3408 in heaven 3772 is great 4183; for in the same 3779 way 3779 they persecuted 1377 the prophets 4396 who were before 4253 you.
13

Disciples and the World

"You are the salt 217 of the earth 1093; but if 1437 the salt 217 has become 3471 tasteless 3471, how can it be made 233 salty 233 {again?} It is no 3762 longer 2089 good 2480 for anything 3762, except 1508 to be thrown 906 out and trampled 2662 under 2662 foot 2662 by men 444.
14 ¶ "You are the light 5457 of the world 2889. A city 4172 set 2749 on a hill 3735 cannot be hidden 2928;
15 nor 3761 does {anyone} light 2545 a lamp 3088 and put 5087 it under 5259 a basket 3426, but on the lampstand 3087, and it gives 2989 light 2989 to all 3956 who are in the house 3614.
16 "Let your light 5457 shine 2989 before 1715 men 444 in such 3779 a way 3779 that they may see 3708 your good 2570 works 2041, and glorify 1392 your Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772.
17 ¶ "Do not think 3543 that I came 2064 to abolish 2647 the Law 3551 or 2228 the Prophets 4396; I did not come 2064 to abolish 2647 but to fulfill 4137.
18 "For truly 281 I say 3004 to you, until 2193 heaven 3772 and earth 1093 pass 3928 away 3928, not the smallest 1520 letter 2503 or 2228 stroke 2762 shall pass 3928 from the Law 3551 until 2193 all 3956 is accomplished 1096.
19 "Whoever then 3767 annuls 3089 one 1520 of the least 1646 of these 3778 commandments 1785, and teaches 1321 others 444 {to do} the same 3779, shall be called 2564 least 1646 in the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772; but whoever keeps 4160 and teaches 1321 {them,} he shall be called 2564 great 3173 in the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
20 ¶ "For I say 3004 to you that unless your righteousness 1343 surpasses 4052 {that} of the scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, you will not enter 1525 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
21

Personal Relationships

"You have heard 191 that the ancients 744 were told 3004, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT 5407 MURDER 5407' and 'Whoever commits 5407 murder 5407 shall be liable 1777 to the court 2920.'
22 "But I say 3004 to you that everyone 3956 who is angry 3710 with his brother 80 shall be guilty 1777 before the court 2920; and whoever says 3004 to his brother 80, 'You good-for-nothing 4469,' shall be guilty 1777 before the supreme 4892 court 4892; and whoever says 3004, 'You fool 3474,' shall be guilty 1777 {enough to go} into the fiery 4442 hell 1067.
23 "Therefore 3767 if 1437 you are presenting 4374 your offering 1435 at the altar 2379, and there 2546 remember 3403 that your brother 80 has 2192 something 5100 against 2596 you,
24 leave 863 your offering 1435 there 1563 before 1715 the altar 2379 and go 5217; first 4413 be reconciled 1259 to your brother 80, and then 5119 come 2064 and present 4374 your offering 1435.
25 "Make 2132 friends 2132 quickly 5035 with your opponent 476 at law 476 while 2193 you are with him on the way 3598, so 3379 that your opponent 476 may not hand 3860 you over to the judge 2923, and the judge 2923 to the officer 5257, and you be thrown 906 into prison 5438.
26 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, you will not come 1831 out of there 1564 until 2193 you have paid 591 up the last 2078 cent 2835.
27 ¶ "You have heard 191 that it was said 3004, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT 3431 ADULTERY 3431';
28 but I say 3004 to you that everyone 3956 who looks 991 at a woman 1135 with lust 1937 for her has already 2235 committed 3431 adultery 3431 with her in his heart 2588.
29 "If 1487 your right 1188 eye 3788 makes 4624 you stumble 4624, tear 1807 it out and throw 906 it from you; for it is better 4851 for you to lose 622 one 1520 of the parts 3196 of your body, than for your whole 3650 body 4983 to be thrown 906 into hell 1067.
30 "If 1487 your right 1188 hand 5495 makes 4624 you stumble 4624, cut 1581 it off 1581 and throw 906 it from you; for it is better 4851 for you to lose one 1520 of the parts 3196 of your body, than for your whole 3650 body 4983 to go 565 into hell 1067.
31 ¶ "It was said 3004, 'WHOEVER SENDS 630 HIS WIFE 1135 AWAY 630, LET HIM GIVE 1325 HER A CERTIFICATE 647 OF DIVORCE 647';
32 but I say 3004 to you that everyone 3956 who divorces 630 his wife 1135, except 3924 for {the} reason 3056 of unchastity 4202, makes 4160 her commit 3431 adultery 3431; and whoever marries 1060 a divorced 630 woman 1135 commits 3429 adultery 3429.
33 ¶ "Again 3825, you have heard 191 that the ancients 744 were told 3004, 'YOU SHALL NOT MAKE 1964 FALSE 1964 VOWS 1964, BUT SHALL FULFILL 591 YOUR VOWS 3727 TO THE LORD 2962.'
34 "But I say 3004 to you, make 3660 no 3361 oath 3660 at all 3654, either 3383 by heaven 3772, for it is the throne 2362 of God 2316,
35 or 3383 by the earth 1093, for it is the footstool 5286 of His feet 4228, or 3383 by Jerusalem 2414, for it is THE CITY 4172 OF THE GREAT 3173 KING 935.
36 "Nor 3383 shall you make 3660 an oath 3660 by your head 2776, for you cannot make 4160 one 1520 hair 2359 white 3022 or 2228 black 3189.
37 "But let your statement 3056 be, 'Yes 3483, yes 3483' {or} 'No 3756, no 3756'; anything beyond 4053 these 3778 is of evil 4190.
38 ¶ "You have heard 191 that it was said 3004, 'AN EYE 3788 FOR AN EYE 3788, AND A TOOTH 3599 FOR A TOOTH 3599.'
39 "But I say 3004 to you, do not resist 436 an evil 4190 person; but whoever 3748 slaps 4474 you on your right 1188 cheek 4600, turn 4762 the other 243 to him also 2532.
40 "If anyone wants 2309 to sue 2919 you and take 2983 your shirt 5509, let 863 him have 863 your coat 2440 also 2532.
41 "Whoever 3748 forces 29 you to go one 1520 mile 3400, go 5217 with him two 1417.
42 "Give 1325 to him who asks 154 of you, and do not turn 654 away 654 from him who wants 2309 to borrow 1155 from you.
43 ¶ "You have heard 191 that it was said 3004, 'YOU SHALL LOVE 25 YOUR NEIGHBOR 4139 and hate 3404 your enemy 2190.'
44 "But I say 3004 to you, love 25 your enemies 2190 and pray 4336 for those 3588 who persecute 1377 you,
45 so 3704 that you may be sons 5207 of your Father 3962 who 3588 is in heaven 3772; for He causes 393 His sun 2246 to rise 393 on {the} evil 4190 and {the} good 18, and sends 1026 rain 1026 on {the} righteous 1342 and {the} unrighteous 94.
46 "For if 1437 you love 25 those 3588 who love 25 you, what 5101 reward 3408 do 4160 you have 2192? Do not even 2532 the tax 5057 collectors 5057 do 4160 the same 846?
47 "If 1437 you greet 782 only 3440 your brothers 80, what 5101 more 4053 are you doing 4160 {than others?} Do not even 2532 the Gentiles 1482 do 4160 the same 846?
48 "Therefore 3767 you are to be perfect 5046, as your heavenly 3770 Father 3962 is perfect 5046.

Chapter 6

1

Giving to the Poor and Prayer

"Beware 4337 of practicing 4160 your righteousness 1343 before 1715 men 444 to be noticed 2300 by them; otherwise 1490 you have 2192 no 3756 reward 3408 with your Father 3962 who 3588 is in heaven 3772.
2 ¶ "So 3767 when 3752 you give 4160 to the poor, do not sound 4537 a trumpet 4537 before 1715 you, as the hypocrites 5273 do 4160 in the synagogues 4864 and in the streets 4505, so 3767 that they may be honored 1392 by men 444. Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, they have 568 their reward 3408 in full 568.
3 "But when you give 4160 to the poor, do not let your left 710 hand 710 know 1097 what 5101 your right 1188 hand 1188 is doing 4160,
4 so 3704 that your giving 1654 will be in secret 2927; and your Father 3962 who sees 991 {what is done} in secret 2927 will reward 591 you.
5 ¶ "When 3752 you pray 4336, you are not to be like 5613 the hypocrites 5273; for they love 5368 to stand 2476 and pray 4336 in the synagogues 4864 and on the street 4116 corners 1137 so 3704 that they may be seen 5316 by men 444. Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, they have 568 their reward 3408 in full 568.
6 "But you, when 3752 you pray 4336, go 1525 into your inner 5009 room 5009, close 2808 your door 2374 and pray 4336 to your Father 3962 who 3588 is in secret 2927, and your Father 3962 who 3588 sees 991 {what is done} in secret 2927 will reward 591 you.
7 ¶ "And when you are praying 4336, do not use 945 meaningless 945 repetition 945 as the Gentiles 1482 do, for they suppose 1380 that they will be heard 1522 for their many 4180 words 4180.
8 "So 3767 do not be like 3666 them; for your Father 3962 knows 3609 what 3739 you need 5532 before 4253 you ask 154 Him.
9 ¶ "Pray 4336, then 3767, in this 3779 way 3779: 'Our Father 3962 who 3588 is in heaven 3772, Hallowed 37 be Your name 3686.
10 'Your kingdom 932 come 2064. Your will 2307 be done 1096, On earth 1093 as it is in heaven 3772.
11 'Give 1325 us this 4594 day 4594 our daily 1967 bread 740.
12 'And forgive 863 us our debts 3783, as we also 2532 have forgiven 863 our debtors 3781.
13 'And do not lead 1533 us into temptation 3986, but deliver 4506 us from evil 4190. [For Yours 4771 is the kingdom 932 and the power 1411 and the glory 1391 forever 165. Amen 281.']
14 "For if 1437 you forgive 863 others 444 for their transgressions 3900, your heavenly 3770 Father 3962 will also 2532 forgive 863 you.
15 "But if 1437 you do not forgive 863 others 444, then 3761 your Father 3962 will not forgive 863 your transgressions 3900.
16

Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth (Mammon)

"Whenever 3752 you fast 3522, do not put 1096 on a gloomy 4659 face 4659 as the hypocrites 5273 {do,} for they neglect 853 their appearance 4383 so 3704 that they will be noticed 5316 by men 444 when they are fasting 3522. Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, they have 568 their reward 3408 in full 568.
17 "But you, when you fast 3522, anoint 218 your head 2776 and wash 3538 your face 4383
18 so 3704 that your fasting 3522 will not be noticed 5316 by men 444, but by your Father 3962 who 3588 is in secret 2931; and your Father 3962 who 3588 sees 991 {what is done} in secret 2931 will reward 591 you.
19 ¶ "Do not store 2343 up for yourselves 4771 treasures 2344 on earth 1093, where 3699 moth 4597 and rust 1035 destroy 853, and where 3699 thieves 2812 break 1358 in and steal 2813.
20 "But store 2343 up for yourselves 4771 treasures 2344 in heaven 3772, where 3699 neither 3777 moth 4597 nor 3777 rust 1035 destroys 853, and where 3699 thieves 2812 do not break 1358 in or 3761 steal 2813;
21 for where 3699 your treasure 2344 is, there 1563 your heart 2588 will be also 2532.
22 ¶ "The eye 3788 is the lamp 3088 of the body 4983; so 3767 then 3767 if 1437 your eye 3788 is clear 573, your whole 3650 body 4983 will be full 5460 of light 5460.
23 "But if 1437 your eye 3788 is bad 4190, your whole 3650 body 4983 will be full 4652 of darkness 4652. If 1487 then 3767 the light 5457 that is in you is darkness 4655, how 4214 great 4214 is the darkness 4655!
24 ¶ "No 3762 one 3762 can 1410 serve 1398 two 1417 masters 2962; for either 2228 he will hate 3404 the one 1520 and love 25 the other 2087, or 2228 he will be devoted 472 to one 1520 and despise 2706 the other 2087. You cannot serve 1398 God 2316 and wealth 3126.
25

The Cure for Anxiety

"For this 3778 reason 1223 I say 3004 to you, do not be worried 3309 about 3588 your life 5590, {as to} what 5101 you will eat 2068 or 2228 what 5101 you will drink 4095; nor 3366 for your body 4983, {as to} what 5101 you will put 1746 on. Is not life 5590 more 4183 than food 5160, and the body 4983 more 4183 than clothing 1742?
26 "Look 1689 at the birds 4071 of the air 3772, that they do not sow 4687, nor 3761 reap 2325 nor 3761 gather 4863 into barns 596, and {yet} your heavenly 3770 Father 3962 feeds 5142 them. Are you not worth 1308 much 3123 more 1308 than they?
27 "And who 5101 of you by being worried 3309 can 1410 add 4369 a {single} hour 4083 to his life 2244?
28 "And why 5101 are you worried 3309 about 4012 clothing 1742? Observe 2648 how 4459 the lilies 2918 of the field 68 grow 837; they do not toil 2872 nor 3761 do they spin 3514,
29 yet 1161 I say 3004 to you that not even 3761 Solomon 4672 in all 3956 his glory 1391 clothed 4016 himself like 5613 one 1520 of these 3778.
30 "But if 1487 God 2316 so 3779 clothes 294 the grass 5528 of the field 68, which is {alive} today 4594 and tomorrow 839 is thrown 906 into the furnace 2823, {will He} not much 4183 more 3123 {clothe} you? You of little 3640 faith 3640!
31 "Do not worry 3309 then 3767, saying 3004, 'What 5101 will we eat 2068?' or 2228 'What 5101 will we drink 4095?' or 2228 'What 5101 will we wear 4016 for clothing 4016?'
32 "For the Gentiles 1484 eagerly 1934 seek 1934 all 3956 these 3778 things 3778; for your heavenly 3770 Father 3962 knows 3609 that you need 5535 all 537 these 3778 things 3778.
33 "But seek 2212 first 4413 His kingdom 932 and His righteousness 1343, and all 3956 these 3778 things 3778 will be added 4369 to you.
34 ¶ "So 3767 do not worry 3309 about 1519 tomorrow 839; for tomorrow 839 will care 3309 for itself 1438. Each day 2250 has enough 713 trouble 2549 of its own.

Chapter 7

1

Judging Others

"Do not judge 2919 so 2443 that you will not be judged 2919.
2 "For in the way 2917 you judge 2919, you will be judged 2919; and by your standard 3358 of measure 3354, it will be measured 3354 to you.
3 "Why 5101 do you look 991 at the speck 2595 that is in your brother's 80 eye 3788, but do not notice 2657 the log 1385 that is in your own eye 3788?
4 "Or 2228 how 4459 can you say 3004 to your brother 80, 'Let 863 me take 1544 the speck 2595 out of your eye 3788,' and behold 2400, the log 1385 is in your own eye 3788?
5 "You hypocrite 5273, first 4413 take 1544 the log 1385 out of your own eye 3788, and then 5119 you will see 1227 clearly 1227 to take 1544 the speck 2595 out of your brother's 80 eye 3788.
6 ¶ "Do not give 1325 what 3588 is holy 40 to dogs 2965, and do not throw 906 your pearls 3135 before 1715 swine 5519, or 3379 they will trample 2662 them under 2662 their feet 4228, and turn 4762 and tear 4486 you to pieces 4486.
7

Prayer and the Golden Rule

"Ask 154, and it will be given 1325 to you; seek 2212, and you will find 2147; knock 2925, and it will be opened 455 to you.
8 "For everyone 3956 who asks 154 receives 2983, and he who seeks 2212 finds 2147, and to him who knocks 2925 it will be opened 455.
9 "Or 2228 what 5101 man 444 is there among 1537 you who 3739, when 3739 his son 5207 asks 154 for a loaf 740, will give 1929 him a stone 3037?
10 "Or 2228 if 2532 he asks 154 for a fish 2486, he will not give 1929 him a snake 3789, will he?
11 "If 1487 you then 3767, being 1510 evil 4190, know 3609 how 3609 to give 1325 good 18 gifts 1390 to your children 5043, how 4214 much 4214 more 3123 will your Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772 give 1325 what is good 18 to those 3588 who ask 154 Him!
12 ¶ "In everything 3956, therefore 3767, treat 4160 people 444 the same 3779 way 3779 you want 2309 them to treat 4160 you, for this 3778 is the Law 3551 and the Prophets 4396.
13

The Narrow and Wide Gates

"Enter 1525 through 1223 the narrow 4728 gate 4439; for the gate 4439 is wide 4116 and the way 3598 is broad 2149 that leads 520 to destruction 684, and there 1510 are many 4183 who enter 1525 through 1223 it.
14 "For the gate 4439 is small 4728 and the way 3598 is narrow 2346 that leads 520 to life 2222, and there 1510 are few 3641 who find 2147 it.
15

A Tree and Its Fruit

"Beware 4337 of the false 5578 prophets 5578, who 3748 come 2064 to you in sheep's 4263 clothing 1742, but inwardly 2081 are ravenous 727 wolves 3074.
16 "You will know 1921 them by their fruits 2590. Grapes 4718 are not gathered 4816 from thorn 173 {bushes} nor 2228 figs 4810 from thistles 5146, are they?
17 "So 3779 every 3956 good 18 tree 1186 bears 4160 good 2570 fruit 2590, but the bad 4550 tree 1186 bears 4160 bad 4190 fruit 2590.
18 "A good 18 tree 1186 cannot produce 5342 bad 4190 fruit 2590, nor 3761 can a bad 4550 tree 1186 produce 5342 good 2570 fruit 2590.
19 "Every 3956 tree 1186 that does not bear 4160 good 2570 fruit 2590 is cut 1581 down 1581 and thrown 906 into the fire 4442.
20 "So 1065 then 686, you will know 1921 them by their fruits 2590.
21 ¶ "Not everyone 3956 who says 3004 to Me, 'Lord 2962, Lord 2962,' will enter 1525 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772, but he who does 4160 the will 2307 of My Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772 {will enter.}
22 "Many 4183 will say 3004 to Me on that day 2250, 'Lord 2962, Lord 2962, did we not prophesy 4395 in Your name 3686, and in Your name 3686 cast 1544 out demons 1140, and in Your name 3686 perform 4160 many 4183 miracles 1411?'
23 "And then 5119 I will declare 3670 to them, 'I never 3763 knew 1097 you; DEPART 672 FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE 2038 LAWLESSNESS 458.'
24

The Two Foundations

"Therefore 3767 everyone 3956 who 3748 hears 191 these 3778 words 3056 of Mine 1473 and acts 4160 on them, may be compared 3666 to a wise 5429 man 435 who 3748 built 3618 his house 3614 on the rock 4073.
25 "And the rain 1028 fell 2597, and the floods 4215 came 2064, and the winds 417 blew 4154 and slammed 4363 against 4363 that house 3614; and {yet} it did not fall 4098, for it had been founded 2311 on the rock 4073.
26 "Everyone 3956 who hears 191 these 3778 words 3056 of Mine 1473 and does not act 4160 on them, will be like 3666 a foolish 3474 man 435 who 3748 built 3618 his house 3614 on the sand 285.
27 "The rain 1028 fell 4098, and the floods 4215 came 2064, and the winds 417 blew 4154 and slammed 4350 against 4350 that house 3614; and it fell 4098--and great 3173 was its fall 4431."
28 ¶ When 3753 Jesus 2424 had finished 5055 these 3778 words 3056, the crowds 3793 were amazed 1605 at His teaching 1322;
29 for He was teaching 1321 them as {one} having 2192 authority 1849, and not as their scribes 1122.

Chapter 8

1

Jesus Cleanses a Leper; The Centurion's Faith

When Jesus came 2597 down 2597 from the mountain 3735, large 4183 crowds 3793 followed 190 Him.
2 And a leper 3015 came 4334 to Him and bowed 4352 down 4352 before Him, and said 3004, "Lord 2962, if 1437 You are willing 2309, You can 1410 make 2511 me clean 2511."
3 Jesus stretched 1614 out His hand 5495 and touched 681 him, saying 3004, "I am 2309 willing 2309; be cleansed 2511." And immediately 2112 his leprosy 3014 was cleansed 2511.
4 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "See 3708 that you tell 3004 no 3367 one 3367; but go 5217, show 1166 yourself 4572 to the priest 2409 and present 4374 the offering 1435 that Moses 3475 commanded 4367, as a testimony 3142 to them."
5 ¶ And when Jesus entered 1525 Capernaum 2746, a centurion 1543 came 4334 to Him, imploring 3870 Him,
6 and saying 3004, "Lord 2962, my servant 3816 is lying 906 paralyzed 3885 at home 3614, fearfully 1171 tormented 928."
7 Jesus said 3004 to him, "I will come 2064 and heal 2323 him."
8 But the centurion 1543 said 5346, "Lord 2962, I am 1510 not worthy 2425 for You to come 1525 under 5259 my roof 4721, but just 3441 say 3004 the word 3056, and my servant 3816 will be healed 2390.
9 "For I also 2532 am 1510 a man 444 under 5259 authority 1849, with soldiers 4757 under 5259 me; and I say 3004 to this 3778 one 3778, 'Go 4198!' and he goes 4198, and to another 243, 'Come 2064!' and he comes 2064, and to my slave 1401, 'Do 4160 this 3778!' and he does 4160 {it.}"
10 Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 heard 191 {this,} He marveled 2296 and said 3004 to those 3588 who were following 190, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, I have not found 2147 such 5118 great 5118 faith 4102 with anyone 3762 in Israel 2474.
11 "I say 3004 to you that many 4183 will come 2240 from east 395 and west 1424, and recline 347 {at the table} with Abraham 11, Isaac 2464 and Jacob 2384 in the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772;
12 but the sons 5207 of the kingdom 932 will be cast 1544 out into the outer 1857 darkness 4655; in that place 1563 there 1563 will be weeping 2805 and gnashing 1030 of teeth 3599."
13 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to the centurion 1543, "Go 5217; it shall be done 1096 for you as you have believed 4100." And the servant 3816 was healed 2390 that {very} moment 5610.
14

Peter's Mother-in-law and Many Others Healed

When Jesus 2424 came 2064 into Peter's 4074 home 3614, He saw 3708 his mother-in-law 3994 lying 906 sick 906 in bed with a fever 4445.
15 He touched 681 her hand 5495, and the fever 4446 left 863 her; and she got 1453 up and waited 1247 on Him.
16 When evening 3798 came 1096, they brought 4374 to Him many 4183 who were demon-possessed 1139; and He cast 1544 out the spirits 4151 with a word 3056, and healed 2323 all 3956 who were ill.
17 {This was} to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 through 1223 Isaiah 2268 the prophet 4396: "HE HIMSELF 846 TOOK 2983 OUR INFIRMITIES 769 AND CARRIED 941 AWAY 941 OUR DISEASES 3554."
18

Discipleship Tested

¶ Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 saw 3708 a crowd 3793 around 4012 Him, He gave 2753 orders 2753 to depart 565 to the other 4008 side 4008 {of the sea.}
19 Then 2532 a scribe 1122 came 4334 and said 3004 to Him, "Teacher 1320, I will follow 190 You wherever You go 565."
20 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "The foxes 258 have 2192 holes 5454 and the birds 4071 of the air 3772 {have} nests 2682, but the Son 5207 of Man 444 has 2192 nowhere to lay 2827 His head 2776."
21 Another 2087 of the disciples 3101 said 3004 to Him, "Lord 2962, permit 2010 me first 4413 to go 565 and bury 2290 my father 3962."
22 But Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "Follow 190 Me, and allow 863 the dead 3498 to bury 2290 their own 1438 dead 3498."
23 ¶ When He got 1684 into the boat 4143, His disciples 3101 followed 190 Him.
24 And behold 2400, there arose 1096 a great 3173 storm 4578 on the sea 2281, so 5620 that the boat 4143 was being 2572 covered 2572 with the waves 2949; but Jesus Himself 846 was asleep 2518.
25 And they came 4334 to {Him} and woke 1453 Him, saying 3004, "Save 4982 {us,} Lord 2962; we are perishing 622!"
26 He said 3004 to them, "Why 5101 are you afraid 1169, you men 3640 of little 3640 faith 3640?" Then 5119 He got 1453 up and rebuked 2008 the winds 417 and the sea 2281, and it became 1096 perfectly 3173 calm 1055.
27 The men 444 were amazed 2296, and said 3004, "What 4217 kind 4217 of a man 444 is this 3778, that even 2532 the winds 417 and the sea 2281 obey 5219 Him?"
28

Jesus Casts Out Demons

When He came 2064 to the other 4008 side 4008 into the country 5561 of the Gadarenes 1046, two 1417 men who were demon-possessed 1139 met 5221 Him as they were coming 1831 out of the tombs 3419. {They were} so extremely 3029 violent 5467 that no 3361 one 5100 could 2480 pass 3928 by that way 3598.
29 And they cried 2896 out, saying 3004, "What 5101 business do we have with each other, Son 5207 of God 2316? Have You come 2064 here 5602 to torment 928 us before 4253 the time 2540?"
30 Now 1161 there was a herd 34 of many 4183 swine 5519 feeding 1006 at a distance 3112 from them.
31 The demons 1142 {began} to entreat 3870 Him, saying 3004, "If 1487 You {are going to} cast 1544 us out, send 649 us into the herd 34 of swine 5519."
32 And He said 3004 to them, "Go 5217!" And they came 1831 out and went 565 into the swine 5519, and the whole 3956 herd 34 rushed 3729 down 2596 the steep 2911 bank 2911 into the sea 2281 and perished 599 in the waters 5204.
33 The herdsmen 1006 ran 5343 away 5343, and went 565 to the city 4172 and reported 518 everything 3956, including 2532 what 3588 had 3588 happened 3588 to the demoniacs 1139.
34 And behold 2400, the whole 3956 city 4172 came 1831 out to meet 5222 Jesus 2424; and when they saw 3708 Him, they implored 3870 Him to leave 3327 their region 3725.

Chapter 9

1

A Paralytic Healed

Getting 1684 into a boat 4143, Jesus crossed 1276 over 1276 {the sea} and came 2064 to His own 2398 city 4172.
2 ¶ And they brought 4374 to Him a paralytic 3885 lying 906 on a bed 2825. Seeing 3708 their faith 4102, Jesus 2424 said 3004 to the paralytic 3885, "Take 2293 courage 2293, son 5043; your sins 266 are forgiven 863."
3 And some 5100 of the scribes 1122 said 3004 to themselves 1438, "This 3778 {fellow} blasphemes 987."
4 And Jesus 2424 knowing 3609 their thoughts 1761 said 3004, "Why 2444 are you thinking 1760 evil 4190 in your hearts 2588?
5 "Which 5101 is easier 2123, to say 3004, 'Your sins 266 are forgiven 863,' or 2228 to say 3004, 'Get 1453 up, and walk 4043'?
6 "But so 2443 that you may know 3609 that the Son 5207 of Man 444 has 2192 authority 1849 on earth 1093 to forgive 863 sins 266"--then 5119 He said 3004 to the paralytic 3885, "Get 1453 up, pick 142 up your bed 2825 and go 5217 home 3624."
7 And he got 1453 up and went 565 home 3624.
8 But when the crowds 3793 saw 3708 {this,} they were awestruck 5399, and glorified 1392 God 2316, who had given 1325 such 5108 authority 1849 to men 444.
9

Matthew Called

As Jesus 2424 went 3855 on from there 1564, He saw 3708 a man 444 called 3004 Matthew 3102, sitting 2521 in the tax 5058 collector's 5058 booth 5058; and He said 3004 to him, "Follow 190 Me!" And he got 450 up and followed 190 Him.
10 ¶ Then 2532 it happened 1096 that as Jesus 2424 was reclining 345 {at the table} in the house 3614, behold 2400, many 4183 tax 5057 collectors 5057 and sinners 268 came 2064 and were dining 4873 with Jesus 2424 and His disciples 3101.
11 When the Pharisees 5330 saw 3708 {this,} they said 3004 to His disciples 3101, "Why is your Teacher 1320 eating 2068 with the tax 5057 collectors 5057 and sinners 268?"
12 But when Jesus heard 191 {this,} He said 3004, "{It is} not those 3588 who are healthy 2480 who need 5532 a physician 2395, but those 3588 who are sick 2560.
13 "But go 4198 and learn 3129 what 5101 this means 1510: 'I DESIRE 2309 COMPASSION 1656, AND NOT SACRIFICE 2378,' for I did not come 2064 to call 2564 the righteous 1342, but sinners 268."
14

The Question about Fasting

¶ Then 5119 the disciples 3101 of John 2491 came 4334 to Him, asking 3004, "Why do we and the Pharisees 5330 fast 3522, but Your disciples 3101 do not fast 3522?"
15 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "The attendants 5207 of the bridegroom 3567 cannot mourn 3996 as long 3745 as the bridegroom 3566 is with them, can they? But the days 2250 will come 2064 when 3752 the bridegroom 3566 is taken 522 away 522 from them, and then 5119 they will fast 3522.
16 "But no 3762 one 3762 puts 1911 a patch 1915 of unshrunk 46 cloth 4470 on an old 3820 garment 2440; for the patch 4138 pulls 142 away 142 from the garment 2440, and a worse 5501 tear 4978 results 1096.
17 "Nor 3761 do {people} put 906 new 3501 wine 3631 into old 3820 wineskins 779; otherwise 1490 the wineskins 779 burst 4486, and the wine 3631 pours 1632 out and the wineskins 779 are ruined 622; but they put 906 new 3501 wine 3631 into fresh 2537 wineskins 779, and both 297 are preserved 4933."
18

Miracles of Healing

While He was saying 2980 these 3778 things 3778 to them, a {synagogue} official 758 came 4334 and bowed 4352 down 4352 before 4352 Him, and said 3004, "My daughter 2364 has just 737 died 5053; but come 2064 and lay 2007 Your hand 5495 on her, and she will live 2198."
19 Jesus 2424 got 1453 up and {began} to follow 190 him, and {so did} His disciples 3101.
20 ¶ And a woman 1135 who had been suffering 131 from a hemorrhage 131 for twelve 1427 years 2094, came 4334 up behind 3693 Him and touched 681 the fringe 2899 of His cloak 2440;
21 for she was saying 3004 to herself 1438, "If 1437 I only 3440 touch 681 His garment 2440, I will get 4982 well 4982."
22 But Jesus 2424 turning 4762 and seeing 3708 her said 3004, "Daughter 2364, take 2293 courage 2293; your faith 4102 has made 4982 you well 4982." At once the woman 1135 was made 4982 well 4982.
23 ¶ When Jesus 2424 came 2064 into the official's 758 house 3614, and saw 3708 the flute-players 834 and the crowd 3793 in noisy 2350 disorder 2350,
24 He said 3004, "Leave 402; for the girl 2877 has not died 599, but is asleep 2518." And they {began} laughing 2606 at Him.
25 But when 3753 the crowd 3793 had been sent 1544 out, He entered 1525 and took 2902 her by the hand 5495, and the girl 2877 got 1453 up.
26 This 3778 news 5345 spread 1831 throughout 1519 all 3650 that land 1093.
27 ¶ As Jesus 2424 went 3855 on from there 1564, two 1417 blind 5185 men 5185 followed 190 Him, crying 2896 out, "Have 1653 mercy 1653 on us, Son 5207 of David 1160!"
28 When 1161 He entered 2064 the house 3614, the blind 5185 men 5185 came 4334 up to Him, and Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Do you believe 4100 that I am 1410 able 1410 to do 4160 this 3778?" They said 3004 to Him, "Yes 3483, Lord 2962."
29 Then 5119 He touched 681 their eyes 3788, saying 3004, "It shall be done 1096 to you according 2596 to your faith 4102."
30 And their eyes 3788 were opened 455. And Jesus 2424 sternly 1690 warned 1690 them: "See 3708 that no 3367 one 3367 knows 1097 {about this!}"
31 But they went 1831 out and spread 1310 the news 1310 about Him throughout 1722 all 3650 that land 1093.
32 ¶ As they were going 1831 out, a mute 2974, demon-possessed 1139 man 444 was brought 4374 to Him.
33 After the demon 1140 was cast 1544 out, the mute 2974 man 2974 spoke 2980; and the crowds 3793 were amazed 2296, {and were} saying 3004, "Nothing 3763 like 3779 this 3779 has ever 3763 been seen 5316 in Israel 2474."
34 But the Pharisees 5330 were saying 3004, "He casts 1544 out the demons 1140 by the ruler 758 of the demons 1140."
35 ¶ Jesus 2424 was going 4013 through 4013 all 3956 the cities 4172 and villages 2968, teaching 1321 in their synagogues 4864 and proclaiming 2784 the gospel 2098 of the kingdom 932, and healing 2323 every 3956 kind 3956 of disease 3554 and every 3956 kind 3956 of sickness 3119.
36 ¶ Seeing 3708 the people 3793, He felt 4697 compassion 4697 for them, because 3754 they were distressed 4660 and dispirited 4496 like 5616 sheep 4263 without a shepherd 4166.
37 Then 5119 He said 3004 to His disciples 3101, "The harvest 2326 is plentiful 4183, but the workers 2040 are few 3641.
38 "Therefore 3767 beseech 1189 the Lord 2962 of the harvest 2326 to send 1544 out workers 2040 into His harvest 2326."

Chapter 10

1

The Twelve Disciples; Instructions for Service

Jesus summoned 4341 His twelve 1427 disciples 3101 and gave 1325 them authority 1849 over unclean 169 spirits 4151, to cast 1544 them out, and to heal 2323 every 3956 kind 3956 of disease 3554 and every 3956 kind 3956 of sickness 3119.
2 ¶ Now 1161 the names 3686 of the twelve 1427 apostles 652 are these 3778: The first 4413, Simon 4613, who is called 3004 Peter 4074, and Andrew 406 his brother 80; and James 2385 the son of Zebedee 2199, and John 2491 his brother 80;
3 Philip 5376 and Bartholomew 918; Thomas 2381 and Matthew 3102 the tax 5057 collector 5057; James 2385 the son of Alphaeus 256, and Thaddaeus 2280;
4 Simon 4613 the Zealot 2581, and Judas 2455 Iscariot 2469, the one who betrayed 3860 Him.
5 ¶ These 3778 twelve 1427 Jesus 2424 sent 649 out after instructing 3853 them: "Do not go 565 in {the} way 3598 of {the} Gentiles 1484, and do not enter 1525 {any} city 4172 of the Samaritans 4541;
6 but rather 3123 go 4198 to the lost 622 sheep 4263 of the house 3624 of Israel 2474.
7 "And as you go 4198, preach 2784, saying 3004, 'The kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is at hand 1448.'
8 "Heal 2323 {the} sick 770, raise 1453 {the} dead 3498, cleanse 2511 {the} lepers 3015, cast 1544 out demons 1140. Freely 1432 you received 2983, freely 1431 give 1325.
9 "Do not acquire 2932 gold 5557, or 3366 silver 696, or 3366 copper 5475 for your money 5475 belts 2223,
10 or 3361 a bag 4082 for {your} journey 3598, or 3366 even 3366 two 1417 coats 5509, or 3366 sandals 5266, or 3366 a staff 4464; for the worker 2040 is worthy 514 of his support 5160.
11 "And whatever city 4172 or 2228 village 2968 you enter 1525, inquire 1833 who 5101 is worthy 514 in it, and stay 3306 at his house 2546 until 2193 you leave 1831 {that city.}
12 "As you enter 1525 the house 3614, give 782 it your greeting 782.
13 "If 1437 the house 3614 is worthy 514, give 2064 it your {blessing of} peace 1515. But if 1437 it is not worthy 514, take 1994 back 1994 your {blessing of} peace 1515.
14 "Whoever 3739 does not receive 1209 you, nor 3366 heed 191 your words 3056, as you go 1831 out of that house 3614 or 2228 that city 4172, shake 1621 the dust 2868 off 1621 your feet 4228.
15 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, it will be more 414 tolerable 414 for {the} land 1093 of Sodom 4670 and Gomorrah 1116 in the day 2250 of judgment 2920 than 2228 for that city 4172.
16

A Hard Road before Them

"Behold 2400, I send 649 you out as sheep 4263 in the midst 3319 of wolves 3074; so 3767 be shrewd 5429 as serpents 3789 and innocent 185 as doves 4058.
17 "But beware 4337 of men 444, for they will hand 3860 you over to {the} courts 4892 and scourge 3146 you in their synagogues 4864;
18 and you will even 2532 be brought 71 before 1909 governors 2232 and kings 935 for My sake 1752, as a testimony 3142 to them and to the Gentiles 1484.
19 "But when 3752 they hand 3860 you over, do not worry 3309 about how 4459 or 2228 what 5101 you are to say 2980; for it will be given 1325 you in that hour 5610 what 5101 you are to say 2980.
20 "For it is not you who speak 2980, but {it is} the Spirit 4151 of your Father 3962 who speaks 2980 in you.
21 ¶ "Brother 80 will betray 3860 brother 80 to death 2288, and a father 3962 {his} child 5043; and children 5043 will rise 1881 up against 1909 parents 1118 and cause 2289 them to be put 2289 to death 2289.
22 "You will be hated 3404 by all 3956 because 1223 of My name 3686, but it is the one who has endured 5278 to the end 5056 who will be saved 4982.
23 ¶ "But whenever 3752 they persecute 1377 you in one 3778 city 4172, flee 5343 to the next 2087; for truly 281 I say 3004 to you, you will not finish 5055 {going through} the cities 4172 of Israel 2474 until 2193 the Son 5207 of Man 444 comes 2064.
24

The Meaning of Discipleship

"A disciple 3101 is not above 5228 his teacher 1320, nor 3761 a slave 1401 above 5228 his master 2962.
25 "It is enough 713 for the disciple 3101 that he become 1096 like 5613 his teacher 1320, and the slave 1401 like 5613 his master 2962. If 1487 they have called 1941 the head 3617 of the house 3617 Beelzebul 954, how 4214 much 4214 more 3123 {will they malign} the members of his household 3615!
26 ¶ "Therefore 3767 do not fear 5399 them, for there is nothing 3762 concealed 2572 that will not be revealed 601, or 2532 hidden 2927 that will not be known 1097.
27 "What 3739 I tell 3004 you in the darkness 4653, speak 3004 in the light 5457; and what 3739 you hear 191 {whispered} in {your} ear 3775, proclaim 2784 upon the housetops 1430.
28 "Do not fear 5399 those 3588 who kill 615 the body 4983 but are unable to kill 615 the soul 5590; but rather 3123 fear 5399 Him who is able 1410 to destroy 622 both 2532 soul 5590 and body 4983 in hell 1067.
29 "Are not two 1417 sparrows 4765 sold 4453 for a cent 787? And {yet} not one 1520 of them will fall 4098 to the ground 1093 apart 427 from your Father 3962.
30 "But the very 2532 hairs 2359 of your head 2776 are all 3956 numbered 705.
31 "So 3767 do not fear 5399; you are more 1308 valuable 1308 than many 4183 sparrows 4765.
32 ¶ "Therefore 3767 everyone 3956 who 3748 confesses 3670 Me before 1715 men 444, I will also 2532 confess 3670 him before 1715 My Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772.
33 "But whoever denies 720 Me before 1715 men 444, I will also 2532 deny 720 him before 1715 My Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772.
34 ¶ "Do not think 3543 that I came 2064 to bring 906 peace 1515 on the earth 1093; I did not come 2064 to bring 906 peace 1515, but a sword 3162.
35 "For I came 2064 to SET 1369 A MAN 444 AGAINST 2596 HIS FATHER 3962, AND A DAUGHTER 2364 AGAINST 2596 HER MOTHER 3384, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW 3565 AGAINST 2596 HER MOTHER-IN-LAW 3994;
36 and A MAN'S 444 ENEMIES 2190 WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD 3615.
37 ¶ "He who loves 5368 father 3962 or 2228 mother 3384 more 5228 than 5228 Me is not worthy 514 of Me; and he who loves 5368 son 5207 or 2228 daughter 2364 more 5228 than 5228 Me is not worthy 514 of Me.
38 "And he who 3739 does not take 2983 his cross 4716 and follow 190 after 3694 Me is not worthy 514 of Me.
39 "He who has found 2147 his life 5590 will lose 622 it, and he who has lost 622 his life 5590 for My sake 1752 will find 2147 it.
40

The Reward of Service

"He who receives 1209 you receives 1209 Me, and he who receives 1209 Me receives 1209 Him who sent 649 Me.
41 "He who receives 1209 a prophet 4396 in {the} name 3686 of a prophet 4396 shall receive 2983 a prophet's 4396 reward 3408; and he who receives 1209 a righteous 1342 man 1342 in the name 3686 of a righteous 1342 man 1342 shall receive 2983 a righteous 1342 man's 1342 reward 3408.
42 "And whoever in the name 3686 of a disciple 3101 gives 4222 to one 1520 of these 3778 little 3398 ones 3398 even 3441 a cup 4221 of cold 5593 water to drink 4222, truly 281 I say 3004 to you, he shall not lose 622 his reward 3408."

Chapter 11

John's Questions

When 3753 Jesus 2424 had finished 5055 giving 1299 instructions 1299 to His twelve 1427 disciples 3101, He departed 3327 from there 1564 to teach 1321 and preach 2784 in their cities 4172.
2 ¶ Now 1161 when John 2491, while 1722 imprisoned 1201, heard 191 of the works 2041 of Christ 5547, he sent 3992 {word} by his disciples 3101
3 and said 3004 to Him, "Are You the Expected 2064 One, or 2228 shall we look 4328 for someone 2087 else 2087?"
4 Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to them, "Go 4198 and report 518 to John 2491 what 3739 you hear 191 and see 991:
5 {the} BLIND 5185 RECEIVE 308 SIGHT 308 and {the} lame 5560 walk 4043, {the} lepers 3015 are cleansed 2511 and {the} deaf 2974 hear 191, {the} dead 3498 are raised 1453 up, and {the} POOR 4434 HAVE THE GOSPEL 2097 PREACHED 2097 TO THEM.
6 "And blessed 3107 is he who 3739 does not take 4624 offense 4624 at Me."
7

Jesus' Tribute to John

¶ As these 3778 men were going 4198 {away,} Jesus 2424 began 757 to speak 3004 to the crowds 3793 about 4012 John 2491, "What 5101 did you go 1831 out into the wilderness 2048 to see 2300? A reed 2563 shaken 4531 by the wind 417?
8 "But what 5101 did you go 1831 out to see 3708? A man 444 dressed 294 in soft 3120 {clothing?} Those 3588 who wear 5409 soft 3120 {clothing} are in kings' 935 palaces 3624!
9 "But what 5101 did you go 1831 out to see 3708? A prophet 4396? Yes 3483, I tell 3004 you, and one who is more 4053 than a prophet 4396.
10 "This 3778 is the one about 4012 whom 3739 it is written 1125, 'BEHOLD 2400, I SEND 649 MY MESSENGER 32 AHEAD OF YOU, WHO 3739 WILL PREPARE 2680 YOUR WAY 3598 BEFORE 1715 YOU.'
11 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, among 1722 those born 1084 of women 1135 there has not arisen 1453 {anyone} greater 3173 than John 2491 the Baptist 910! Yet 1161 the one 3739 who is least 3398 in the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is greater 3173 than he.
12 "From the days 2250 of John 2491 the Baptist 910 until 2193 now 737 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 suffers 971 violence 971, and violent 973 men 973 take 726 it by force 726.
13 "For all 3956 the prophets 4396 and the Law 3551 prophesied 4395 until 2193 John 2491.
14 "And if 1487 you are willing 2309 to accept 1209 {it,} John himself 846 is Elijah 2243 who was to come 2064.
15 "He who has 2192 ears 3775 to hear 191, let him hear 191.
16 ¶ "But to what 5101 shall I compare 3666 this 3778 generation 1074? It is like 3664 children 3813 sitting 2521 in the market 58 places 58, who 3739 call 4377 out to the other 2087 {children,}
17 and say 3004, 'We played 832 the flute 832 for you, and you did not dance 3738; we sang 2354 a dirge 2354, and you did not mourn 2875.'
18 "For John 2491 came 2064 neither 3383 eating 2068 nor 3383 drinking 4095, and they say 3004, 'He has 2192 a demon 1140!'
19 "The Son 5207 of Man 444 came 2064 eating 2068 and drinking 4095, and they say 3004, 'Behold 2400, a gluttonous 5314 man 444 and a drunkard 3630, a friend 5384 of tax 5057 collectors 5057 and sinners 268!' Yet 2532 wisdom 4678 is vindicated 1344 by her deeds 2041."
20

The Unrepenting Cities

¶ Then 5119 He began 757 to denounce 3679 the cities 4172 in which 3739 most 4183 of His miracles 1411 were done 1096, because 3754 they did not repent 3340.
21 "Woe 3759 to you, Chorazin 5523! Woe 3759 to you, Bethsaida 966! For if 1487 the miracles 1411 had occurred 1096 in Tyre 5184 and Sidon 4605 which occurred 1096 in you, they would have repented 3340 long 3819 ago 3819 in sackcloth 4526 and ashes 4700.
22 "Nevertheless 4133 I say 3004 to you, it will be more 414 tolerable 414 for Tyre 5184 and Sidon 4605 in {the} day 2250 of judgment 2920 than 2228 for you.
23 "And you, Capernaum 2746, will not be exalted 5312 to heaven 3772, will you? You will descend 2597 to Hades 86; for if 1487 the miracles 1411 had occurred 1096 in Sodom 4670 which occurred 1096 in you, it would have remained 3306 to this 4594 day 4594.
24 "Nevertheless 4133 I say 3004 to you that it will be more 414 tolerable 414 for the land 1093 of Sodom 4670 in {the} day 2250 of judgment 2920, than 2228 for you."
25

Come to Me

At that time 2540 Jesus 2424 said 3004, "I praise 1843 You, Father 3962, Lord 2962 of heaven 3772 and earth 1093, that You have hidden 2928 these 3778 things 3778 from {the} wise 4680 and intelligent 4908 and have revealed 601 them to infants 3516.
26 "Yes 3483, Father 3962, for this 3779 way 3779 was well-pleasing 2107 in Your sight 1715.
27 "All 3956 things 3956 have been handed 3860 over 3860 to Me by My Father 3962; and no 3762 one 3762 knows 1921 the Son 5207 except 1508 the Father 3962; nor 3761 does anyone 5100 know 1921 the Father 3962 except 1508 the Son 5207, and anyone to whom 3739 the Son 5207 wills 1014 to reveal 601 {Him.}
28 ¶ "Come 1205 to Me, all 3956 who are weary 2872 and heavy-laden 5412, and I will give 373 you rest 373.
29 "Take 142 My yoke 2218 upon you and learn 3129 from Me, for I am 1510 gentle 4239 and humble 5011 in heart 2588, and YOU WILL FIND 2147 REST 372 FOR YOUR SOULS 5590.
30 "For My yoke 2218 is easy 5543 and My burden 5413 is light 1645."

Chapter 12

Sabbath Questions

At that time 2540 Jesus 2424 went 4198 through 1223 the grainfields 4702 on the Sabbath 4521, and His disciples 3101 became hungry 3983 and began 757 to pick 5089 the heads 4719 {of grain} and eat 2068.
2 But when the Pharisees 5330 saw 3708 {this,} they said 3004 to Him, "Look 2400, Your disciples 3101 do 4160 what 3739 is not lawful 1832 to do 4160 on a Sabbath 4521."
3 But He said 3004 to them, "Have you not read 314 what 5101 David 1160 did 4160 when 3753 he became hungry 3983, he and his companions,
4 how 4459 he entered 1525 the house 3624 of God 2316, and they ate 2068 the consecrated 4286 bread 740, which 3739 was not lawful 1832 for him to eat 2068 nor 3761 for those 3588 with him, but for the priests 2409 alone 3441?
5 "Or 2228 have you not read 314 in the Law 3551, that on the Sabbath 4521 the priests 2409 in the temple 2413 break 953 the Sabbath 4521 and are innocent 338?
6 "But I say 3004 to you that something greater 3173 than the temple 2413 is here 5602.
7 "But if 1487 you had known 1097 what 5101 this means 1510, 'I DESIRE 2309 COMPASSION 1656, AND NOT A SACRIFICE 2378,' you would not have condemned 2613 the innocent 338.
8

Lord of the Sabbath

"For the Son 5207 of Man 444 is Lord 2962 of the Sabbath 4521."
9 ¶ Departing 3327 from there 1564, He went 2064 into their synagogue 4864.
10 And a man 444 {was there} whose hand 5495 was withered 3584. And they questioned 1905 Jesus, asking 3004, "Is it lawful 1832 to heal 2323 on the Sabbath 4521?"--so 2443 that they might accuse 2723 Him.
11 And He said 3004 to them, "What 5101 man 444 is there among 1537 you who 3739 has 2192 a sheep 4263, and if 1437 it falls 1706 into a pit 999 on the Sabbath 4521, will he not take 2902 hold 2902 of it and lift 1453 it out?
12 "How 4214 much 4214 more 1308 valuable 1308 then 3767 is a man 444 than a sheep 4263! So 5620 then 5620, it is lawful 1832 to do 4160 good 2573 on the Sabbath 4521."
13 Then 5119 He said 3004 to the man 444, "Stretch 1614 out your hand 5495!" He stretched 1614 it out, and it was restored 600 to normal 5199, like 5613 the other 243.
14 But the Pharisees 5330 went 1831 out and conspired against 2596 Him, {as to} how 3704 they might destroy 622 Him.
15 ¶ But Jesus 2424, aware 1097 of {this,} withdrew 402 from there 1564. Many 4183 followed 190 Him, and He healed 2323 them all 3956,
16 and warned 2008 them not to tell 5318 who 846 He was.
17 {This was} to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 through 1223 Isaiah 2268 the prophet 4396:
18 "BEHOLD 2400, MY SERVANT 3816 WHOM 3739 I HAVE CHOSEN 140; MY BELOVED 27 IN WHOM 3739 MY SOUL 5590 is WELL-PLEASED 2106; I WILL PUT 5087 MY SPIRIT 4151 UPON HIM, AND HE SHALL PROCLAIM 518 JUSTICE 2920 TO THE GENTILES 1484.
19 "HE WILL NOT QUARREL 2051, NOR 3761 CRY 2905 OUT; NOR 3761 WILL ANYONE 5100 HEAR 191 HIS VOICE 5456 IN THE STREETS 4116.
20 "A BATTERED 4937 REED 2563 HE WILL NOT BREAK 2608 OFF, AND A SMOLDERING 5188 WICK 3043 HE WILL NOT PUT 4570 OUT, UNTIL 2193 HE LEADS 1544 JUSTICE 2920 TO VICTORY 3534.
21 "AND IN HIS NAME 3686 THE GENTILES 1484 WILL HOPE 1679."
22

The Pharisees Rebuked

Then 5119 a demon-possessed 1139 man {who was} blind 5185 and mute 2974 was brought 4374 to Jesus, and He healed 2323 him, so 5620 that the mute 2974 man 2974 spoke 2980 and saw 991.
23 All 3956 the crowds 3793 were amazed 1839, and were saying 3004, "This 3778 man cannot 3385 be the Son 5207 of David 1160, can he?"
24 But when the Pharisees 5330 heard 191 {this,} they said 3004, "This 3778 man 3778 casts 1544 out demons 1140 only by Beelzebul 954 the ruler 758 of the demons 1140."
25 ¶ And knowing 3609 their thoughts 1761 Jesus said 3004 to them, "Any 3956 kingdom 932 divided 3307 against 2596 itself 1438 is laid 2049 waste 2049; and any 3956 city 4172 or 2228 house 3614 divided 3307 against 2596 itself 1438 will not stand 2476.
26 "If 1487 Satan 4567 casts 1544 out Satan 4567, he is divided 3307 against 1909 himself 1438; how 4459 then 3767 will his kingdom 932 stand 2476?
27 "If 1487 I by Beelzebul 954 cast 1544 out demons 1140, by whom 5101 do your sons 5207 cast 1544 {them} out? For this reason they will be your judges 2923.
28 "But if 1487 I cast 1544 out demons 1140 by the Spirit 4151 of God 2316, then 686 the kingdom 932 of God 2316 has come 5348 upon you.
29 "Or 2228 how 4459 can 1410 anyone 5100 enter 1525 the strong 2478 man's 2478 house 3614 and carry 726 off 726 his property 4632, unless he first 4413 binds 1210 the strong 2478 {man?} And then 5119 he will plunder 1283 his house 3614.
30

The Unpardonable Sin

"He who is not with Me is against 2596 Me; and he who does not gather 4863 with Me scatters 4650.
31 ¶ "Therefore I say 3004 to you, any 3956 sin 266 and blasphemy 988 shall be forgiven 863 people 444, but blasphemy 988 against the Spirit 4151 shall not be forgiven 863.
32 "Whoever speaks 3004 a word 3056 against 2596 the Son 5207 of Man 444, it shall be forgiven 863 him; but whoever speaks 3004 against 2596 the Holy 40 Spirit 4151, it shall not be forgiven 863 him, either 3777 in this 3778 age 165 or 3777 in the {age} to come 3195.
33

Words Reveal Character

"Either 2228 make 4160 the tree 1186 good 2570 and its fruit 2590 good 2570, or 2228 make 4160 the tree 1186 bad 4550 and its fruit 2590 bad 4550; for the tree 1186 is known 1097 by its fruit 2590.
34 "You brood 1081 of vipers 2191, how 4459 can 1410 you, being 1510 evil 4190, speak 2980 what is good 18? For the mouth 4750 speaks 2980 out of that which 4051 fills 4051 the heart 2588.
35 "The good 18 man 444 brings 1544 out of {his} good 18 treasure 2344 what is good 18; and the evil 4190 man 444 brings 1544 out of {his} evil 4190 treasure 2344 what is evil 4190.
36 "But I tell 3004 you that every 3956 careless 692 word 4487 that people 444 speak 2980, they shall give 591 an accounting 3056 for it in the day 2250 of judgment 2920.
37 "For by your words 3056 you will be justified 1344, and by your words 3056 you will be condemned 2613."
38

The Desire for Signs

¶ Then 5119 some 5100 of the scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330 said 3004 to Him, "Teacher 1320, we want 2309 to see 3708 a sign 4592 from You."
39 But He answered 611 and said 3004 to them, "An evil 4190 and adulterous 3428 generation 1074 craves 1934 for a sign 4592; and {yet} no 3756 sign 4592 will be given 1325 to it but the sign 4592 of Jonah 2495 the prophet 4396;
40 for just 5618 as JONAH 2495 WAS THREE 5140 DAYS 2250 AND THREE 5140 NIGHTS 3571 IN THE BELLY 2836 OF THE SEA 2785 MONSTER 2785, so 3779 will the Son 5207 of Man 444 be three 5140 days 2250 and three 5140 nights 3571 in the heart 2588 of the earth 1093.
41 "The men 435 of Nineveh 3536 will stand 450 up with this 3778 generation 1074 at the judgment 2920, and will condemn 2632 it because 3754 they repented 3340 at the preaching 2782 of Jonah 2495; and behold 2400, something greater 4183 than Jonah 2495 is here 5602.
42 "{The} Queen 938 of {the} South 3558 will rise 1453 up with this 3778 generation 1074 at the judgment 2920 and will condemn 2632 it, because 3754 she came 2064 from the ends 4009 of the earth 1093 to hear 191 the wisdom 4678 of Solomon 4672; and behold 2400, something greater 4183 than Solomon 4672 is here 5602.
43 ¶ "Now 1161 when 3752 the unclean 169 spirit 4151 goes 1831 out of a man 444, it passes 1330 through 1223 waterless 504 places 5117 seeking 2212 rest 372, and does not find 2147 {it.}
44 "Then 5119 it says 3004, 'I will return 1994 to my house 3624 from which 3606 I came 1831'; and when it comes 2064, it finds 2147 {it} unoccupied 4980, swept 4563, and put 2885 in order 2885.
45 "Then 5119 it goes 4198 and takes 3880 along 3880 with it seven 2033 other 2087 spirits 4151 more 4190 wicked 4190 than itself 1438, and they go 1525 in and live 2730 there 1563; and the last 2078 state of that man 444 becomes 1096 worse 5501 than the first 4413. That is the way 3779 it will also 2532 be with this 3778 evil 4190 generation 1074."
46

Changed Relationships

While He was still 2089 speaking 2980 to the crowds 3793, behold 2400, His mother 3384 and brothers 80 were standing 2476 outside 1854, seeking 2212 to speak 2980 to Him.
47 Someone 5100 said 3004 to Him, "Behold 2400, Your mother 3384 and Your brothers 80 are standing 2476 outside 1854 seeking 2212 to speak 2980 to You."
48 But Jesus answered 611 the one who was telling 3004 Him and said 3004, "Who 5101 is My mother 3384 and who 5101 are My brothers 80?"
49 And stretching 1614 out His hand 5495 toward 1909 His disciples 3101, He said 3004, "Behold 2400 My mother 3384 and My brothers 80!
50 "For whoever does 4160 the will 2307 of My Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772, he is My brother 80 and sister 79 and mother 3384."

Chapter 13

1

Jesus Teaches in Parables

That day 2250 Jesus 2424 went 1831 out of the house 3614 and was sitting 2521 by the sea 2281.
2 And large 4183 crowds 3793 gathered 4863 to Him, so 5620 He got 1684 into a boat 4143 and sat 2521 down 2521, and the whole 3956 crowd 3793 was standing 2476 on the beach 123.
3 ¶ And He spoke 2980 many 4183 things 4183 to them in parables 3850, saying 3004, "Behold 2400, the sower 4687 went 1831 out to sow 4687;
4 and as he sowed 4687, some {seeds} fell 4098 beside 3844 the road 3598, and the birds 4071 came 2064 and ate 2719 them up.
5 "Others 243 fell 4098 on the rocky 4075 places, where 3699 they did not have 2192 much 4183 soil 1093; and immediately 2112 they sprang 1816 up, because 1223 they had 2192 no 3361 depth 899 of soil 1093.
6 "But when the sun 2246 had risen 393, they were scorched 2739; and because 1223 they had 2192 no 3361 root 4491, they withered 3583 away 3583.
7 "Others 243 fell 4098 among 1909 the thorns 173, and the thorns 173 came 305 up and choked 638 them out.
8 "And others 243 fell 4098 on the good 2570 soil 1093 and yielded 1325 a crop 2590, some a hundredfold 1540, some 3739 sixty 1835, and some 3739 thirty 5144.
9 "He who has 2192 ears 3775, let him hear 191."
10

An Explanation

¶ And the disciples 3101 came 4334 and said 3004 to Him, "Why do You speak 2980 to them in parables 3850?"
11 Jesus answered 611 them, "To you it has been granted 1325 to know 1097 the mysteries 3466 of the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772, but to them it has not been granted 1325.
12 "For whoever 3748 has 2192, to him {more} shall be given 1325, and he will have 4052 an abundance 4052; but whoever 3748 does not have 2192, even 2532 what 3739 he has 2192 shall be taken 142 away 142 from him.
13 "Therefore I speak 2980 to them in parables 3850; because 3754 while seeing 991 they do not see 991, and while hearing 191 they do not hear 191, nor 3761 do they understand 4920.
14 "In their case the prophecy 4394 of Isaiah 2268 is being fulfilled 378, which says 3004, 'YOU WILL KEEP 189 ON HEARING 191, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND 4920; YOU WILL KEEP 991 ON SEEING 991, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE 3708;
15 FOR THE HEART 2588 OF THIS 3778 PEOPLE 2992 HAS BECOME 3975 DULL 3975, WITH THEIR EARS 3775 THEY SCARCELY 917 HEAR 191, AND THEY HAVE CLOSED 2576 THEIR EYES 3788, OTHERWISE 3379 THEY WOULD SEE 3708 WITH THEIR EYES 3788, HEAR 191 WITH THEIR EARS 3775, AND UNDERSTAND 4920 WITH THEIR HEART 2588 AND RETURN 1994, AND I WOULD HEAL 2390 THEM.'
16 "But blessed 3107 are your eyes 3788, because 3754 they see 991; and your ears 3775, because 3754 they hear 191.
17 "For truly 281 I say 3004 to you that many 4183 prophets 4396 and righteous 1342 men 1342 desired 1937 to see 3708 what 3739 you see 991, and did not see 3708 {it,} and to hear 191 what 3739 you hear 191, and did not hear 191 {it.}
18

The Sower Explained

"Hear 191 then 3767 the parable 3850 of the sower 4687.
19 "When anyone 3956 hears 191 the word 3056 of the kingdom 932 and does not understand 4920 it, the evil 4190 {one} comes 2064 and snatches 726 away 726 what 3588 has been sown 4687 in his heart 2588. This 3778 is the one on whom seed was sown 4687 beside 3844 the road 3598.
20 "The one on whom seed was sown 4687 on the rocky 4075 places, this 3778 is the man who hears 191 the word 3056 and immediately 2117 receives 2983 it with joy 5479;
21 yet 1161 he has 2192 no 3756 {firm} root 4491 in himself 1438, but is {only} temporary 4340, and when affliction 2347 or 2228 persecution 1375 arises 1096 because 1223 of the word 3056, immediately 2117 he falls 4624 away 4624.
22 "And the one on whom seed was sown 4687 among 1519 the thorns 173, this 3778 is the man who hears 191 the word 3056, and the worry 3308 of the world 165 and the deceitfulness 539 of wealth 4149 choke 4846 the word 3056, and it becomes 1096 unfruitful 175.
23 "And the one on whom seed was sown 4687 on the good 2570 soil 1093, this 3778 is the man who hears 191 the word 3056 and understands 4920 it; who 3739 indeed 1211 bears 2592 fruit 2592 and brings 4160 forth 4160, some a hundredfold 1540, some 3739 sixty 1835, and some 3739 thirty 5144."
24

Tares among Wheat

¶ Jesus presented 3908 another 243 parable 3850 to them, saying 3004, "The kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 may be compared 3666 to a man 444 who sowed 4687 good 2570 seed 4690 in his field 68.
25 "But while 1722 his men 444 were sleeping 2518, his enemy 2190 came 2064 and sowed 1986 tares 2215 among the wheat 4621, and went 565 away 565.
26 "But when 3753 the wheat 5528 sprouted 985 and bore 4160 grain 2590, then 5119 the tares 2215 became 5316 evident 5316 also 2532.
27 "The slaves 1401 of the landowner 3617 came 4334 and said 3004 to him, 'Sir 2962, did you not sow 4687 good 2570 seed 4690 in your field 68? How 4159 then 3767 does it have 2192 tares 2215?'
28 "And he said 5346 to them, 'An enemy has done 4160 this 3778!' The slaves 1401 said 3004 to him, 'Do you want 2309 us, then 3767, to go 565 and gather 4816 them up?'
29 "But he said 5346, 'No 3756; for while you are gathering 4816 up the tares 2215, you may uproot 1610 the wheat 4621 with them.
30 'Allow 863 both 297 to grow 4885 together 4885 until 2193 the harvest 2326; and in the time 2540 of the harvest 2326 I will say 3004 to the reapers 2327, "First 4413 gather 4816 up the tares 2215 and bind 1210 them in bundles 1197 to burn 2618 them up; but gather 4863 the wheat 4621 into my barn 596."'"
31

The Mustard Seed

¶ He presented 3908 another 243 parable 3850 to them, saying 3004, "The kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a mustard 4615 seed 2848, which 3739 a man 444 took 2983 and sowed 4687 in his field 68;
32 and this 3739 is smaller 3398 than all 3956 {other} seeds 4690, but when 3752 it is full 837 grown 837, it is larger 3173 than the garden 3001 plants 3001 and becomes 1096 a tree 1186, so 5620 that THE BIRDS 4071 OF THE AIR 3772 come 2064 and NEST 2681 IN ITS BRANCHES 2798."
33

The Leaven

¶ He spoke 2980 another 243 parable 3850 to them, "The kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 leaven 2219, which 3739 a woman 1135 took 2983 and hid 1470 in three 5140 pecks 4568 of flour 224 until 2193 it was all 3650 leavened 2220."
34 ¶ All 3956 these 3778 things 3778 Jesus 2424 spoke 2980 to the crowds 3793 in parables 3850, and He did not speak 2980 to them without 5565 a parable 3850.
35 {This was} to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 through 1223 the prophet 4396: "I WILL OPEN 455 MY MOUTH 4750 IN PARABLES 3850; I WILL UTTER 2044 THINGS 2928 HIDDEN 2928 SINCE 575 THE FOUNDATION 2602 OF THE WORLD 2889."
36

The Tares Explained

¶ Then 5119 He left 863 the crowds 3793 and went 2064 into the house 3614. And His disciples 3101 came 4334 to Him and said 3004, "Explain 1285 to us the parable 3850 of the tares 2215 of the field 68."
37 And He said 3004, "The one who sows 4687 the good 2570 seed 4690 is the Son 5207 of Man 444,
38 and the field 68 is the world 2889; and {as for} the good 2570 seed 4690, these 3778 are the sons 5207 of the kingdom 932; and the tares 2215 are the sons 5207 of the evil 4190 {one;}
39 and the enemy 2190 who sowed 4687 them is the devil 1228, and the harvest 2326 is the end 4930 of the age 165; and the reapers 2327 are angels 32.
40 "So 3779 just 5618 as the tares 2215 are gathered 4816 up and burned 2618 with fire 4442, so 3779 shall it be at the end 4930 of the age 165.
41 "The Son 5207 of Man 444 will send 649 forth 649 His angels 32, and they will gather 4816 out of His kingdom 932 all 3956 stumbling 4625 blocks 4625, and those 3588 who commit 4160 lawlessness 458,
42 and will throw 906 them into the furnace 2575 of fire 4442; in that place 1563 there will be weeping 2805 and gnashing 1030 of teeth 3599.
43 "Then 5119 THE RIGHTEOUS 1342 WILL SHINE 1584 FORTH 1584 AS THE SUN 2246 in the kingdom 932 of their Father 3962. He who has 2192 ears 3775, let him hear 191.
44

Hidden Treasure

"The kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a treasure 2344 hidden 2928 in the field 68, which 3739 a man 444 found 2147 and hid 2928 {again;} and from joy 5479 over it he goes 5217 and sells 4453 all 3745 that he has 2192 and buys 59 that field 68.
45

A Costly Pearl

"Again 3825, the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a merchant 1713 seeking 2212 fine 2570 pearls 3135,
46 and upon finding 2147 one 1520 pearl 3135 of great 4186 value 4186, he went 565 and sold 4097 all 3956 that he had 2192 and bought 59 it.
47

A Dragnet

"Again 3825, the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a dragnet 4522 cast 906 into the sea 2281, and gathering 4863 {fish} of every 3956 kind 1085;
48 and when 3753 it was filled 4137, they drew 307 it up on the beach 123; and they sat 2523 down 2523 and gathered 4816 the good 2570 {fish} into containers 32, but the bad 4550 they threw 906 away 1854.
49 "So 3779 it will be at the end 4930 of the age 165; the angels 32 will come 1831 forth 1831 and take 873 out the wicked 4190 from among 3319 the righteous 1342,
50 and will throw 906 them into the furnace 2575 of fire 4442; in that place 1563 there 1563 will be weeping 2805 and gnashing 1030 of teeth 3599.
51 ¶ "Have you understood 4920 all 3956 these 3778 things 3778?" They said 3004 to Him, "Yes 3483."
52 And Jesus said 3004 to them, "Therefore every 3956 scribe 1122 who has become 3100 a disciple 3100 of the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a head 3617 of a household 3617, who 3748 brings 1544 out of his treasure 2344 things 2537 new 2537 and old 3820."
53

Jesus Revisits Nazareth

When 3753 Jesus 2424 had finished 5055 these 3778 parables 3850, He departed 3332 from there 1564.
54 He came 2064 to His hometown 3968 and {began} teaching 1321 them in their synagogue 4864, so 5620 that they were astonished 1605, and said 3004, "Where 4159 {did} this 3778 man 3778 {get} this 3778 wisdom 4678 and {these} miraculous 1411 powers 1411?
55 "Is not this 3778 the carpenter's 5045 son 5207? Is not His mother 3384 called 3004 Mary 3137, and His brothers 80, James 2385 and Joseph 2501 and Simon 4613 and Judas 2455?
56 "And His sisters 79, are they not all 3956 with us? Where 4159 then 3767 {did} this 3778 man 3778 {get} all 3956 these 3778 things 3778?"
57 And they took 4624 offense 4624 at Him. But Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "A prophet 4396 is not without 820 honor 820 except 1508 in his hometown 3968 and in his {own} household 3614."
58 And He did not do 4160 many 4183 miracles 1411 there 1563 because 1223 of their unbelief 570.

Chapter 14

1

John the Baptist Beheaded

At that time 2540 Herod 2264 the tetrarch 5068 heard 191 the news 189 about Jesus 2424,
2 and said 3004 to his servants 3816, "This 3778 is John 2491 the Baptist 910; he has risen 1453 from the dead 3498, and that is why 1223 miraculous 1411 powers 1411 are at work 1754 in him."
3 ¶ For when Herod 2264 had John 2491 arrested 2902, he bound 1210 him and put 659 him in prison 5438 because 1223 of Herodias 2266, the wife 1135 of his brother 80 Philip 5376.
4 For John 2491 had been saying 3004 to him, "It is not lawful 1832 for you to have 2192 her."
5 Although Herod wanted 2309 to put 615 him to death 615, he feared 5399 the crowd 3793, because 3754 they regarded 2192 John 4053 as a prophet 4396.
6 ¶ But when Herod's 2264 birthday 1077 came 1096, the daughter 2364 of Herodias 2266 danced 3738 before {them} and pleased 700 Herod 2264,
7 so 3606 {much} that he promised 3670 with an oath 3727 to give 1325 her whatever she asked 154.
8 Having been prompted 4264 by her mother 3384, she said 5346, "Give 1325 me here 5602 on a platter 4094 the head 2776 of John 2491 the Baptist 910."
9 Although he was grieved 3076, the king 935 commanded 2753 {it} to be given 1325 because 1223 of his oaths 3727, and because of his dinner 4873 guests 4873.
10 He sent 3992 and had John 2491 beheaded 607 in the prison 5438.
11 And his head 2776 was brought 5342 on a platter 4094 and given 1325 to the girl 2877, and she brought 5342 it to her mother 3384.
12 His disciples 3101 came 4334 and took 142 away 142 the body 4430 and buried 2290 it; and they went 2064 and reported 518 to Jesus 2424.
13

Five Thousand Fed

Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 heard 191 {about John,} He withdrew 402 from there 1564 in a boat 4143 to a secluded 2048 place 5117 by Himself 2398; and when the people 3793 heard 191 {of this,} they followed 190 Him on foot 3979 from the cities 4172.
14 When He went 1831 ashore 1831, He saw 3708 a large 4183 crowd 3793, and felt 4697 compassion 4697 for them and healed 2323 their sick 732.
15 ¶ When it was evening 3798, the disciples 3101 came 4334 to Him and said 3004, "This 3588 place 5117 is desolate 2048 and the hour 5610 is already 2235 late 3928; so 3767 send 630 the crowds 3793 away 630, that they may go 565 into the villages 2968 and buy 59 food 1033 for themselves 1438."
16 But Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "They do not need 5532 to go 565 away 565; you give 1325 them {something} to eat 2068!"
17 They said 3004 to Him, "We have 2192 here 5602 only five 4002 loaves 740 and two 1417 fish 2486."
18 And He said 3004, "Bring 5342 them here 5602 to Me."
19 Ordering 2753 the people 3793 to sit 347 down 347 on the grass 5528, He took 2983 the five 4002 loaves 740 and the two 1417 fish 2486, and looking 308 up toward 1519 heaven 3772, He blessed 2127 {the food,} and breaking 2806 the loaves 740 He gave 1325 them to the disciples 3101, and the disciples 3101 {gave them} to the crowds 3793,
20 and they all 3956 ate 2068 and were satisfied 5526. They picked 142 up what 3588 was left 4052 over 4052 of the broken 2801 pieces 2801, twelve 1427 full 4134 baskets 2894.
21 There were about 5616 five 4000 thousand 4000 men 435 who ate 2068, besides 5565 women 1135 and children 3813.
22

Jesus Walks on the Water

Immediately 2112 He made 315 the disciples 3101 get 1684 into the boat 4143 and go 4254 ahead 4254 of Him to the other 4008 side 4008, while 2193 He sent 630 the crowds 3793 away 630.
23 After He had sent 630 the crowds 3793 away 630, He went 305 up on the mountain 3735 by Himself 2398 to pray 4336; and when it was evening 3798, He was there 1563 alone 3441.
24 But the boat 4143 was already 2235 a long 4183 distance 4712 from the land 1093, battered 928 by the waves 2949; for the wind 417 was contrary 1727.
25 And in the fourth 5067 watch 5438 of the night 3571 He came 2064 to them, walking 4043 on the sea 2281.
26 When the disciples 3101 saw 3708 Him walking 4043 on the sea 2281, they were terrified 5015, and said 3004, "It is a ghost 5326!" And they cried 2896 out in fear 5401.
27 But immediately 2117 Jesus 2424 spoke 2980 to them, saying 3004, "Take 2293 courage 2293, it is I; do not be afraid 5399."
28 ¶ Peter 4074 said 3004 to Him, "Lord 2962, if 1487 it is You, command 2753 me to come 2064 to You on the water 5204."
29 And He said 3004, "Come 2064!" And Peter 4074 got 2597 out of the boat 4143, and walked 4043 on the water 5204 and came 2064 toward 4314 Jesus 2424.
30 But seeing 991 the wind 417, he became frightened 5399, and beginning 757 to sink 2670, he cried 2896 out, "Lord 2962, save 4982 me!"
31 Immediately 2112 Jesus 2424 stretched 1614 out His hand 5495 and took 1949 hold 1949 of him, and said 3004 to him, "You of little 3640 faith 3640, why did you doubt 1365?"
32 When they got 305 into the boat 4143, the wind 417 stopped 2869.
33 And those 3588 who were in the boat 4143 worshiped 4352 Him, saying 3004, "You are certainly 230 God's 2316 Son 5207!"
34 ¶ When they had crossed 1276 over 1276, they came 2064 to land 1093 at Gennesaret 1082.
35 And when the men 435 of that place 5117 recognized 1921 Him, they sent 649 {word} into all 3650 that surrounding 4066 district 4066 and brought 4374 to Him all 3956 who were sick 2560;
36 and they implored 3870 Him that they might just 3441 touch 681 the fringe 2899 of His cloak 2440; and as many 3745 as touched 681 {it} were cured 1295.

Chapter 15

1

Tradition and Commandment

Then 5119 some Pharisees 5330 and scribes 1122 came 4334 to Jesus 2424 from Jerusalem 2414 and said 3004,
2 "Why do Your disciples 3101 break 3862 the tradition 3862 of the elders 4245? For they do not wash 3538 their hands 5495 when 3752 they eat 2068 bread 740."
3 And He answered 611 and said 3004 to them, "Why 1223 do you yourselves 4771 transgress 3845 the commandment 1785 of God 2316 for the sake 1223 of your tradition 3862?
4 "For God 2316 said 3004, 'HONOR 5091 YOUR FATHER 3962 AND MOTHER 3384,' and, 'HE WHO SPEAKS 2551 EVIL 2551 OF FATHER 3962 OR 2228 MOTHER 3384 IS TO BE PUT 5053 TO DEATH 2288.'
5 "But you say 3004, 'Whoever says 3004 to {his} father 3962 or 2228 mother 3384, "Whatever I have 1473 that would help 5623 you has been given 1435 {to God,}"
6 he is not to honor 5091 his father 3962 or 2228 his mother 3384.' And {by this} you invalidated 208 the word 3056 of God 2316 for the sake 1223 of your tradition 3862.
7 "You hypocrites 5273, rightly 2573 did Isaiah 2268 prophesy 4395 of you:
8 'THIS 3778 PEOPLE 2992 HONORS 5091 ME WITH THEIR LIPS 5491, BUT THEIR HEART 2588 IS FAR 4206 AWAY 568 FROM ME.
9 'BUT IN VAIN 3155 DO THEY WORSHIP 4576 ME, TEACHING 1321 AS DOCTRINES 1319 THE PRECEPTS 1778 OF MEN 444.'"
10 ¶ After Jesus called 4341 the crowd 3793 to Him, He said 3004 to them, "Hear 191 and understand 4920.
11 "{It is} not what 3588 enters 1525 into the mouth 4750 {that} defiles 2840 the man 444, but what 3588 proceeds 1607 out of the mouth 4750, this 3778 defiles 2840 the man 444."
12 ¶ Then 5119 the disciples 3101 came 4334 and said 3004 to Him, "Do You know 3609 that the Pharisees 5330 were offended 4624 when they heard 191 this 3588 statement 3056?"
13 But He answered 611 and said 3004, "Every 3956 plant 5451 which 3739 My heavenly 3770 Father 3962 did not plant 5452 shall be uprooted 1610.
14 "Let 863 them alone 863; they are blind 5185 guides 3595 of the blind 5185. And if 1437 a blind 5185 man 5185 guides 3594 a blind 5185 man 5185, both 297 will fall 4098 into a pit 999."
15

The Heart of Man

¶ Peter 4074 said 3004 to Him, "Explain 5419 the parable 3850 to us."
16 Jesus said 3004, "Are you still 188 lacking 801 in understanding 801 also 2532?
17 "Do you not understand 3539 that everything 3956 that goes 1531 into the mouth 4750 passes 5562 into the stomach 2836, and is eliminated?
18 "But the things that proceed 1607 out of the mouth 4750 come 1831 from the heart 2588, and those 2548 defile 2840 the man 444.
19 "For out of the heart 2588 come 1831 evil 4190 thoughts 1261, murders 5408, adulteries 3430, fornications 4202, thefts 2829, false 5577 witness 5577, slanders 988.
20 "These 3778 are the things which defile 2840 the man 444; but to eat 2068 with unwashed 449 hands 5495 does not defile 2840 the man 444."
21

The Syrophoenician Woman

Jesus 2424 went 1831 away 1831 from there 1564, and withdrew 402 into the district 3313 of Tyre 5184 and Sidon 4605.
22 And a Canaanite 5478 woman 1135 from that region 3725 came 1831 out and {began} to cry 2896 out, saying 3004, "Have 1653 mercy 1653 on me, Lord 2962, Son 5207 of David 1160; my daughter 2364 is cruelly 2560 demon-possessed 1139."
23 But He did not answer 611 her a word 3056. And His disciples 3101 came 4334 and implored 2065 Him, saying 3004, "Send 630 her away 630, because 3754 she keeps shouting 2896 at us."
24 But He answered 611 and said 3004, "I was sent 649 only to the lost 622 sheep 4263 of the house 3624 of Israel 2474."
25 But she came 2064 and {began} to bow 4352 down 4352 before 4352 Him, saying 3004, "Lord 2962, help 997 me!"
26 And He answered 611 and said 3004, "It is not good 2570 to take 2983 the children's 5043 bread 740 and throw 906 it to the dogs 2952."
27 But she said 3004, "Yes 3483, Lord 2962; but even 2532 the dogs 2952 feed 2068 on the crumbs 5589 which fall 4098 from their masters' 2962 table 5132."
28 Then 5119 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to her, "O 5599 woman 1135, your faith 4102 is great 3173; it shall be done 1096 for you as you wish 2309." And her daughter 2364 was healed 2390 at once.
29

Healing Crowds

Departing 3327 from there 1564, Jesus 2424 went 2064 along 3844 by the Sea 2281 of Galilee 1056, and having gone 305 up on the mountain 3735, He was sitting 2521 there 1563.
30 And large 4183 crowds 3793 came 4334 to Him, bringing 2192 with them {those who were} lame 5560, crippled 2948, blind 5185, mute 2974, and many 4183 others 2087, and they laid 4496 them down 4496 at His feet 4228; and He healed 2323 them.
31 So 5620 the crowd 3793 marveled 2296 as they saw 991 the mute 2974 speaking 2980, the crippled 2948 restored 5199, and the lame 5560 walking 4043, and the blind 5185 seeing 991; and they glorified 1392 the God 2316 of Israel 2474.
32

Four Thousand Fed

And Jesus 2424 called 4341 His disciples 3101 to Him, and said 3004, "I feel 4697 compassion 4697 for the people 3793, because 3754 they have remained 4357 with Me now 2235 three 5140 days 2250 and have 2192 nothing to eat 2068; and I do not want 2309 to send 630 them away 630 hungry 3523, for they might faint 1590 on the way 3598."
33 The disciples 3101 said 3004 to Him, "Where 4159 would we get so 5118 many 5118 loaves 740 in {this} desolate 2047 place 2047 to satisfy 5526 such 5118 a large 4183 crowd 3793?"
34 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "How 4214 many 4214 loaves 740 do you have 2192?" And they said 3004, "Seven 2033, and a few 3641 small 2485 fish 2485."
35 And He directed 3853 the people 3793 to sit 377 down 377 on the ground 1093;
36 and He took 2983 the seven 2033 loaves 740 and the fish 2486; and giving 2168 thanks 2168, He broke 2806 them and started giving 1325 them to the disciples 3101, and the disciples 3101 {gave them} to the people 3793.
37 And they all 3956 ate 2068 and were satisfied 5526, and they picked 142 up what 3588 was left 4052 over 4052 of the broken 2801 pieces 2801, seven 2033 large 4711 baskets 4711 full 4134.
38 And those 3588 who ate 2068 were four 5070 thousand 5070 men 435, besides 5565 women 1135 and children 3813.
39 ¶ And sending 630 away 630 the crowds 3793, Jesus got 1684 into the boat 4143 and came 2064 to the region 3725 of Magadan 3093.

Chapter 16

1

Pharisees Test Jesus

The Pharisees 5330 and Sadducees 4523 came 4334 up, and testing 3985 Jesus, they asked 1905 Him to show 1925 them a sign 4592 from heaven 3772.
2 But He replied 611 to them, "When it is evening 3798, you say 3004, '{It will be} fair 2105 weather 2105, for the sky 3772 is red 4449.'
3 "And in the morning 4404, '{There will be} a storm 5494 today 4594, for the sky 3772 is red 4449 and threatening 4768.' Do you know 1097 how 1097 to discern 1252 the appearance 4383 of the sky 3772, but cannot {discern} the signs 4592 of the times 2540?
4 "An evil 4190 and adulterous 3428 generation 1074 seeks 1934 after 1934 a sign 4592; and a sign 4592 will not be given 1325 it, except 1508 the sign 4592 of Jonah 2495." And He left 2641 them and went 565 away 565.
5 ¶ And the disciples 3101 came 2064 to the other 4008 side 4008 {of the sea,} but they had forgotten 1950 to bring 2983 {any} bread 740.
6 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Watch 3708 out and beware 4337 of the leaven 2219 of the Pharisees 5330 and Sadducees 4523."
7 They began to discuss 1260 {this} among 1722 themselves 1438, saying 3004, "{He said that} because 3754 we did not bring 2983 {any} bread 740."
8 But Jesus 2424, aware 1097 of this, said 3004, "You men 3640 of little 3640 faith 3640, why 5101 do you discuss 1260 among 1722 yourselves 1438 that you have 2192 no 3756 bread 740?
9 "Do you not yet 3768 understand 3539 or 3761 remember 3421 the five 4002 loaves 740 of the five 4000 thousand 4000, and how 4214 many 4214 baskets 2894 {full} you picked 2983 up?
10 "Or 3761 the seven 2033 loaves 740 of the four 5070 thousand 5070, and how 4214 many 4214 large 4711 baskets 4711 {full} you picked 2983 up?
11 "How 4459 is it that you do not understand 3539 that I did not speak 3004 to you concerning 4012 bread 740? But beware 4337 of the leaven 2219 of the Pharisees 5330 and Sadducees 4523."
12 Then 5119 they understood 4920 that He did not say 3004 to beware 4337 of the leaven 2219 of bread 740, but of the teaching 1322 of the Pharisees 5330 and Sadducees 4523.
13

Peter's Confession of Christ

Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 came 2064 into the district 3313 of Caesarea 2542 Philippi 5376, He was asking 2065 His disciples 3101, "Who 5101 do people 444 say 3004 that the Son 5207 of Man 444 is?"
14 And they said 3004, "Some {say} John 2491 the Baptist 910; and others 243, Elijah 2243; but still others 2087, Jeremiah 2408, or 2228 one 1520 of the prophets 4396."
15 He said 3004 to them, "But who 5101 do you say 3004 that I am 1510?"
16 Simon 4613 Peter 4074 answered 611, "You are the Christ 5547, the Son 5207 of the living 2198 God 2316."
17 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "Blessed 3107 are you, Simon 4613 Barjona 920, because 3754 flesh 4561 and blood 129 did not reveal 601 {this} to you, but My Father 3962 who 3588 is in heaven 3772.
18 "I also 2532 say 3004 to you that you are Peter 4074, and upon this 3778 rock 4073 I will build 3618 My church 1577; and the gates 4439 of Hades 86 will not overpower 2729 it.
19 "I will give 1325 you the keys 2807 of the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772; and whatever you bind 1210 on earth 1093 shall have been bound 1210 in heaven 3772, and whatever you loose 3089 on earth 1093 shall have been loosed 3089 in heaven 3772."
20 Then 5119 He warned 2008 the disciples 3101 that they should tell 3004 no 3367 one 3367 that He was the Christ 5547.
21

Jesus Foretells His Death

From that time 5119 Jesus 2424 began 757 to show 1166 His disciples 3101 that He must 1163 go 565 to Jerusalem 2414, and suffer 3958 many 4183 things 4183 from the elders 4245 and chief 749 priests 749 and scribes 1122, and be killed 615, and be raised 1453 up on the third 5154 day 2250.
22 Peter 4074 took 4355 Him aside 4355 and began 757 to rebuke 2008 Him, saying 3004, "God 2436 forbid 2436 {it,} Lord 2962! This 3778 shall never happen 1510 to You."
23 But He turned 4762 and said 3004 to Peter 4074, "Get 5217 behind 3694 Me, Satan 4567! You are a stumbling 4625 block 4625 to Me; for you are not setting 5426 your mind 5426 on God's 2316 interests, but man's 444."
24

Discipleship Is Costly

¶ Then 5119 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to His disciples 3101, "If 1487 anyone 5100 wishes 2309 to come 2064 after 3694 Me, he must deny 533 himself 1438, and take 142 up his cross 4716 and follow 190 Me.
25 "For whoever wishes 2309 to save 4982 his life 5590 will lose 622 it; but whoever loses 622 his life 5590 for My sake 1752 will find 2147 it.
26 "For what 5101 will it profit 5623 a man 444 if 1437 he gains 2770 the whole 3650 world 2889 and forfeits 2210 his soul 5590? Or 2228 what 5101 will a man 444 give 1325 in exchange 465 for his soul 5590?
27 "For the Son 5207 of Man 444 is going 3195 to come 2064 in the glory 1391 of His Father 3962 with His angels 32, and WILL THEN 5119 REPAY 591 EVERY 1538 MAN 1538 ACCORDING 2596 TO HIS DEEDS 4234.
28 ¶ "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, there are some 5100 of those 3588 who are standing 2476 here 5602 who 3748 will not taste 1089 death 2288 until 2193 they see 3708 the Son 5207 of Man 444 coming 2064 in His kingdom 932."

Chapter 17

1

The Transfiguration

Six 1803 days 2250 later 3326 Jesus 2424 took 3880 with Him Peter 4074 and James 2385 and John 2491 his brother 80, and led 399 them up on a high 5308 mountain 3735 by themselves 2398.
2 And He was transfigured 3339 before 1715 them; and His face 4383 shone 2989 like 5613 the sun 2246, and His garments 2440 became 1096 as white 3022 as light 5457.
3 And behold 2400, Moses 3475 and Elijah 2243 appeared 3708 to them, talking 4814 with Him.
4 Peter 4074 said 3004 to Jesus 2424, "Lord 2962, it is good 2570 for us to be here 5602; if 1487 You wish 2309, I will make 4160 three 5140 tabernacles 4633 here 5602, one 1520 for You, and one 1520 for Moses 3475, and one 1520 for Elijah 2243."
5 While he was still 2089 speaking 2980, a bright 5460 cloud 3507 overshadowed 1982 them, and behold 2400, a voice 5456 out of the cloud 3507 said 3004, "This 3778 is My beloved 27 Son 5207, with whom 3739 I am 2106 well-pleased 2106; listen 191 to Him!"
6 When the disciples 3101 heard 191 {this,} they fell 4098 face 4383 down to the ground and were terrified 5399.
7 And Jesus 2424 came 4334 to {them} and touched 681 them and said 3004, "Get 1452 up, and do not be afraid 5399."
8 And lifting 1869 up their eyes 3788, they saw 3708 no 3762 one 3762 except 1508 Jesus 2424 Himself 846 alone 3441.
9 ¶ As they were coming 2597 down 2597 from the mountain 3735, Jesus 2424 commanded 1781 them, saying 3004, "Tell 3004 the vision 3705 to no 3367 one 3367 until 2193 the Son 5207 of Man 444 has risen 1453 from the dead 3498."
10 And His disciples 3101 asked 1905 Him, "Why 5101 then 3767 do the scribes 1122 say 3004 that Elijah 2243 must 1163 come 2064 first 4413?"
11 And He answered 611 and said 3004, "Elijah 2243 is coming 2064 and will restore 600 all 3956 things 3956;
12 but I say 3004 to you that Elijah 2243 already 2235 came 2064, and they did not recognize 1921 him, but did 4160 to him whatever 3745 they wished 2309. So 3779 also 2532 the Son 5207 of Man 444 is going 3195 to suffer 3958 at their hands 5259."
13 Then 5119 the disciples 3101 understood 4920 that He had spoken 3004 to them about 4012 John 2491 the Baptist 910.
14

The Demoniac

When they came 2064 to the crowd 3793, a man 444 came 4334 up to Jesus, falling 1120 on his knees 1120 before 1120 Him and saying 3004,
15 "Lord 2962, have 1653 mercy 1653 on my son 5207, for he is a lunatic 4583 and is very 2560 ill; for he often 4178 falls 4098 into the fire 4442 and often 4178 into the water 5204.
16 "I brought 4374 him to Your disciples 3101, and they could 1410 not cure 2323 him."
17 And Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004, "You unbelieving 571 and perverted 1294 generation 1074, how 2193 long shall I be with you? How 2193 long shall I put 430 up with you? Bring 5342 him here 5602 to Me."
18 And Jesus 2424 rebuked 2008 him, and the demon 1140 came 1831 out of him, and the boy 3816 was cured 2323 at once.
19 ¶ Then 5119 the disciples 3101 came 4334 to Jesus 2424 privately and said 3004, "Why could 1410 we not drive 1544 it out?"
20 And He said 3004 to them, "Because 1223 of the littleness 3640 of your faith 3640; for truly 281 I say 3004 to you, if 1437 you have 2192 faith 4102 the size 5613 of a mustard 4615 seed 2848, you will say 3004 to this 3778 mountain 3735, 'Move 3327 from here 1759 to there 1563,' and it will move 3327; and nothing 3762 will be impossible 101 to you.
21 ["But this 3778 kind 1085 does not go 1607 out except 1508 by prayer 4335 and fasting 3521."]
22 ¶ And while they were gathering 4962 together 4962 in Galilee 1056, Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "The Son 5207 of Man 444 is going 3195 to be delivered 3860 into the hands 5495 of men 444;
23 and they will kill 615 Him, and He will be raised 1453 on the third 5154 day 2250." And they were deeply 4970 grieved 3076.
24

The Tribute Money

¶ When they came 4334 to Capernaum 2746, those 3588 who collected 2983 the two-drachma 1323 {tax} came 4334 to Peter 4074 and said 3004, "Does your teacher 1320 not pay 5055 the two-drachma 1323 {tax?}"
25 He said 3004, "Yes 3483." And when he came 2064 into the house 3614, Jesus 2424 spoke 4399 to him first 4399, saying 3004, "What 5101 do you think 1380, Simon 4613? From whom 5101 do the kings 935 of the earth 1093 collect 2983 customs 5056 or 2228 poll-tax 2778, from their sons 5207 or 2228 from strangers 245?"
26 When Peter said 5346, "From strangers 245," Jesus 2424 said 5346 to him, "Then 686 the sons 5207 are exempt 1658.
27 "However 1161, so that we do not offend 4624 them, go 4198 to the sea 2281 and throw 906 in a hook 44, and take 142 the first 4413 fish 2486 that comes 305 up; and when you open 455 its mouth 4750, you will find 2147 a shekel 4715. Take 2983 that and give 1325 it to them for you and Me."

Chapter 18

1

Rank in the Kingdom

At that time 5610 the disciples 3101 came 4334 to Jesus 2424 and said 3004, "Who 5101 then 686 is greatest 3173 in the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772?"
2 And He called 4341 a child 3813 to Himself and set 2476 him before them,
3 and said 3004, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, unless you are converted 4762 and become 1096 like 5613 children 3813, you will not enter 1525 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
4 "Whoever 3748 then 3767 humbles 5013 himself 1438 as this 3778 child 3813, he is the greatest 3173 in the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
5 "And whoever receives 1209 one 1520 such 5108 child 3813 in My name 3686 receives 1209 Me;
6 but whoever causes 4624 one 1520 of these 3778 little 3398 ones 3398 who believe 4100 in Me to stumble 4624, it would be better 4851 for him to have a heavy 3684 millstone 3458 hung 2910 around 4012 his neck 5137, and to be drowned 2670 in the depth 3989 of the sea 2281.
7

Stumbling Blocks

"Woe 3759 to the world 2889 because 575 of {its} stumbling 4625 blocks 4625! For it is inevitable 318 that stumbling 4625 blocks 4625 come 2064; but woe 3759 to that man 444 through 1223 whom 3739 the stumbling 4625 block 4625 comes 2064!
8 ¶ "If 1487 your hand 5495 or 2228 your foot 4228 causes 4624 you to stumble 4624, cut 1581 it off 1581 and throw 906 it from you; it is better 2570 for you to enter 1525 life 2222 crippled 2948 or 2228 lame 5560, than 2228 to have 2192 two 1417 hands 5495 or 2228 two 1417 feet 4228 and be cast 906 into the eternal 166 fire 4442.
9 "If 1487 your eye 3788 causes 4624 you to stumble 4624, pluck 1807 it out and throw 906 it from you. It is better 2570 for you to enter 1525 life 2222 with one 3442 eye 3442, than 2228 to have 2192 two 1417 eyes 3788 and be cast 906 into the fiery 4442 hell 1067.
10 ¶ "See 3708 that you do not despise 2706 one 1520 of these 3778 little 3398 ones 3398, for I say 3004 to you that their angels 32 in heaven 3772 continually see 3708 the face 4383 of My Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772.
11 ["For the Son 5207 of Man 444 has come 2064 to save 4982 that which was lost 622.]
12

Ninety-nine Plus One

"What 5101 do you think 1380? If 1437 any 5100 man 444 has 1096 a hundred 1540 sheep 4263, and one 1520 of them has gone 4105 astray 4105, does he not leave 863 the ninety-nine on the mountains 3735 and go 4198 and search 2212 for the one that is straying 4105?
13 "If 1437 it turns 1096 out that he finds 2147 it, truly 281 I say 3004 to you, he rejoices 5463 over 1909 it more 3123 than 2228 over 1909 the ninety-nine which have not gone 4105 astray 4105.
14 "So 3379 it is not {the} will 2307 of your Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772 that one 1520 of these 3778 little 3398 ones 3398 perish 622.
15

Discipline and Prayer

"If 1437 your brother 80 sins 264, go 5217 and show 1651 him his fault 1651 in private 3441; if 1437 he listens 191 to you, you have won 2770 your brother 80.
16 "But if 1437 he does not listen 191 {to you,} take 3880 one 1520 or 2228 two 1417 more 2089 with you, so 2443 that BY THE MOUTH 4750 OF TWO 1417 OR 2228 THREE 5140 WITNESSES 3144 EVERY 3956 FACT 4487 MAY BE CONFIRMED 2476.
17 "If 1437 he refuses 3878 to listen 3878 to them, tell 3004 it to the church 1577; and if 1437 he refuses 3878 to listen 3878 even 2532 to the church 1577, let him be to you as a Gentile 1482 and a tax 5057 collector 5057.
18 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, whatever you bind 1210 on earth 1093 shall have been bound 1210 in heaven 3772; and whatever you loose 3089 on earth 1093 shall have been loosed 3089 in heaven 3772.
19 ¶ "Again 3825 I say 3004 to you, that if 1437 two 1417 of you agree 4856 on earth 1093 about 4012 anything that they may ask 154, it shall be done 1096 for them by My Father 3962 who is in heaven 3772.
20 "For where 3757 two 1417 or 2228 three 5140 have gathered 4863 together 4863 in My name 3686, I am 1510 there 1563 in their midst 3319."
21

Forgiveness

¶ Then 5119 Peter 4074 came 4334 and said 3004 to Him, "Lord 2962, how 4212 often 4212 shall my brother 80 sin 264 against 1519 me and I forgive 863 him? Up to seven 2034 times 2034?"
22 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "I do not say 3004 to you, up to seven 2034 times 2034, but up to seventy 1441 times 1441 seven 2033.
23 ¶ "For this 3778 reason 1223 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 may be compared 3666 to a king 935 who 3739 wished 2309 to settle 4868 accounts 3056 with his slaves 1401.
24 "When he had begun 757 to settle 4868 {them,} one 1520 who owed 3781 him ten 3463 thousand 3463 talents 5007 was brought 4317 to him.
25 "But since he did not have 2192 {the means} to repay 591, his lord 2962 commanded 2753 him to be sold 4097, along 2532 with his wife 1135 and children 5043 and all 3956 that he had 2192, and repayment 591 to be made 591.
26 "So 3767 the slave 1401 fell 4098 {to the ground} and prostrated 4352 himself 4352 before 4352 him, saying 3004, 'Have 3114 patience 3114 with me and I will repay 591 you everything 3956.'
27 "And the lord 2962 of that slave 1401 felt 4697 compassion 4697 and released 630 him and forgave 863 him the debt 1156.
28 "But that slave 1401 went 1831 out and found 2147 one 1520 of his fellow 4889 slaves 4889 who 3739 owed 3784 him a hundred 1540 denarii 1220; and he seized 2902 him and {began} to choke 4155 {him,} saying 3004, 'Pay 591 back 591 what 5101 you owe 3784.'
29 "So 3767 his fellow 4889 slave 4889 fell 4098 {to the ground} and {began} to plead 3870 with him, saying 3004, 'Have 3114 patience 3114 with me and I will repay 591 you.'
30 "But he was unwilling and went 565 and threw 906 him in prison 5438 until 2193 he should pay 591 back 591 what 3588 was owed 3784.
31 "So 3767 when his fellow 4889 slaves 4889 saw 3708 what 3588 had happened 1096, they were deeply 4970 grieved 3076 and came 2064 and reported 1285 to their lord 2962 all 3956 that had happened 1096.
32 "Then 5119 summoning 4341 him, his lord 2962 said 3004 to him, 'You wicked 4190 slave 1401, I forgave 863 you all 3956 that debt 3782 because 1893 you pleaded 3870 with me.
33 'Should 1163 you not also 2532 have had 1653 mercy 1653 on your fellow 4889 slave 4889, in the same 5613 way 5613 that I had 1653 mercy 1653 on you?'
34 "And his lord 2962, moved 3710 with anger 3710, handed 3860 him over 3860 to the torturers 930 until 2193 he should repay 591 all 3956 that was owed 3784 him.
35 "My heavenly 3770 Father 3962 will also 2532 do 4160 the same 3779 to you, if 1437 each 1538 of you does not forgive 863 his brother 80 from your heart 2588."

Chapter 19

1

Concerning Divorce

When 3753 Jesus 2424 had finished 5055 these 3778 words 3056, He departed 3332 from Galilee 1056 and came 2064 into the region 3725 of Judea 2453 beyond 4008 the Jordan 2446;
2 and large 4183 crowds 3793 followed 190 Him, and He healed 2323 them there 1563.
3 ¶ {Some} Pharisees 5330 came 4334 to Jesus, testing 3985 Him and asking 3004, "Is it lawful 1832 {for a man} to divorce 630 his wife 1135 for any 3956 reason 156 at all 3956?"
4 And He answered 611 and said 3004, "Have you not read 314 that He who created 2936 {them} from the beginning 746 MADE 4160 THEM MALE 733 AND FEMALE 2338,
5 and said 3004, 'FOR THIS 3778 REASON 1752 A MAN 444 SHALL LEAVE 2641 HIS FATHER 3962 AND MOTHER 3384 AND BE JOINED 2853 TO HIS WIFE 1135, AND THE TWO 1417 SHALL BECOME ONE 1520 FLESH 4561'?
6 "So 5620 they are no 3765 longer 3765 two 1417, but one 1520 flesh 4561. What 3739 therefore 3767 God 2316 has joined 4801 together 4801, let no 3361 man 444 separate 5563."
7 They said 3004 to Him, "Why 5101 then 3767 did Moses 3475 command 1781 to GIVE 1325 HER A CERTIFICATE 975 OF DIVORCE 647 AND SEND 630 {her} AWAY 630?"
8 He said 3004 to them, "Because 4314 of your hardness 4641 of heart 4641 Moses 3475 permitted 2010 you to divorce 630 your wives 1135; but from the beginning 746 it has not been 1096 this 3779 way 3779.
9 "And I say 3004 to you, whoever divorces 630 his wife 1135, except 3361 for immorality 4202, and marries 1060 another 243 woman 243 commits 3429 adultery 3429."
10 ¶ The disciples 3101 said 3004 to Him, "If 1487 the relationship 156 of the man 444 with his wife 1135 is like 3779 this 3779, it is better 4851 not to marry 1060."
11 But He said 3004 to them, "Not all 3956 men 3956 {can} accept 5562 this 3778 statement 3056, but {only} those to whom 3739 it has been given 1325.
12 "For there are eunuchs 2135 who 3748 were born 1080 that way 3779 from their mother's 3384 womb 2836; and there are eunuchs 2135 who 3748 were made 2134 eunuchs 2134 by men 444; and there are {also} eunuchs 2135 who 3748 made 2134 themselves 1438 eunuchs 2134 for the sake 1223 of the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772. He who is able 1410 to accept 5562 {this,} let him accept 5562 {it.}"
13

Jesus Blesses Little Children

Then 5119 {some} children 3813 were brought 4374 to Him so 2443 that He might lay 2007 His hands 5495 on them and pray 4336; and the disciples 3101 rebuked 2008 them.
14 But Jesus 2424 said 3004, "Let 863 the children 3813 alone 863, and do not hinder 2967 them from coming 2064 to Me; for the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 belongs 1510 to such 5108 as these 5108."
15 After laying 2007 His hands 5495 on them, He departed 4198 from there 1564.
16

The Rich Young Ruler

And someone 1520 came 4334 to Him and said 3004, "Teacher 1320, what 5101 good 18 thing 18 shall I do 4160 that I may obtain 2192 eternal 166 life 2222?"
17 And He said 3004 to him, "Why 5101 are you asking 2065 Me about 4012 what 3588 is good 18? There is {only} One 1520 who is good 18; but if 1487 you wish 2309 to enter 1525 into life 2222, keep 5083 the commandments 1785."
18 {Then} he said 3004 to Him, "Which 4169 ones 4169?" And Jesus 2424 said 5346, "YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT 5407 MURDER 5407; YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT 3431 ADULTERY 3431; YOU SHALL NOT STEAL 2813; YOU SHALL NOT BEAR 5576 FALSE 5576 WITNESS 5576;
19 HONOR 5091 YOUR FATHER 3962 AND MOTHER 3384; and YOU SHALL LOVE 25 YOUR NEIGHBOR 4139 AS YOURSELF 4572."
20 The young 3495 man 3495 said 3004 to Him, "All 3956 these 3778 things 3778 I have kept 5442; what 5101 am 5302 I still 2089 lacking 5302?"
21 Jesus 2424 said 5346 to him, "If 1487 you wish 2309 to be complete 5046, go 5217 {and} sell 4453 your possessions 5225 and give 1325 to {the} poor 4434, and you will have 2192 treasure 2344 in heaven 3772; and come 1204, follow 190 Me."
22 But when the young 3495 man 3495 heard 191 this 3778 statement 3056, he went 565 away 565 grieving 3076; for he was one who owned 2192 much 4183 property 2933.
23 ¶ And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to His disciples 3101, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, it is hard 1423 for a rich 4145 man 4145 to enter 1525 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772.
24 "Again 3825 I say 3004 to you, it is easier 2123 for a camel 2574 to go through 1223 the eye 5144 of a needle 4476, than 2228 for a rich 4145 man 4145 to enter 1525 the kingdom 932 of God 2316."
25 When the disciples 3101 heard 191 {this,} they were very 4970 astonished 1605 and said 3004, "Then 686 who 5101 can 1410 be saved 4982?"
26 And looking 1689 at {them} Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "With people 444 this 3778 is impossible 102, but with God 2316 all 3956 things 3956 are possible 1415."
27

The Disciples' Reward

¶ Then 5119 Peter 4074 said 3004 to Him, "Behold 2400, we have left 863 everything 3956 and followed 190 You; what 5101 then 686 will there be for us?"
28 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, that you who have followed 190 Me, in the regeneration 3824 when 3752 the Son 5207 of Man 444 will sit 2523 on His glorious 1391 throne 2362, you also 2532 shall sit 2521 upon twelve 1427 thrones 2362, judging 2919 the twelve 1427 tribes 5443 of Israel 2474.
29 "And everyone 3956 who 3748 has left 863 houses 3614 or 2228 brothers 80 or 2228 sisters 79 or 2228 father 3962 or 2228 mother 3384 or 2228 children 5043 or 2228 farms 68 for My name's 3686 sake 1752, will receive 2983 many 4179 times 4179 as much 4179, and will inherit 2816 eternal 166 life 2222.
30 "But many 4183 {who are} first 4413 will be last 2078; and {the} last 2078, first 4413.

Chapter 20

1

Laborers in the Vineyard

"For the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 is like 3664 a landowner 3617 who 3748 went 1831 out early 260 in the morning 4404 to hire 3409 laborers 2040 for his vineyard 290.
2 "When he had agreed 4856 with the laborers 2040 for a denarius 1220 for the day 2250, he sent 649 them into his vineyard 290.
3 "And he went 1831 out about 4012 the third 5154 hour 5610 and saw 3708 others 243 standing 2476 idle 692 in the market 58 place 58;
4 and to those 1565 he said 3004, 'You also 2532 go 5217 into the vineyard 290, and whatever is right 1342 I will give 1325 you.' And {so} they went 565.
5 "Again 3825 he went 1831 out about 4012 the sixth 1623 and the ninth 1729 hour 5610, and did 4160 the same 5615 thing 5615.
6 "And about 4012 the eleventh 1734 {hour} he went 1831 out and found 2147 others 243 standing 2476 {around;} and he said 3004 to them, 'Why 5101 have you been standing 2476 here 5602 idle 692 all 3650 day 2250 long?'
7 "They said 3004 to him, 'Because 3754 no 3762 one 3762 hired 3409 us.' He said 3004 to them, 'You go 5217 into the vineyard 290 too 2532.'
8 ¶ "When evening 3798 came 1096, the owner 2962 of the vineyard 290 said 3004 to his foreman 2012, 'Call 2564 the laborers 2040 and pay 591 them their wages 3408, beginning 757 with the last 2078 {group} to the first 4413.'
9 "When 2532 those 3588 {hired} about 4012 the eleventh 1734 hour 5610 came 2064, each 303 one 303 received 2983 a denarius 1220.
10 "When those 3588 {hired} first 4413 came 2064, they thought 3543 that they would receive 2983 more 4183; but each 303 of them also 2532 received 2983 a denarius 1220.
11 "When they received 2983 it, they grumbled 1111 at the landowner 3617,
12 saying 3004, 'These 3778 last 2078 men 2078 have worked 4160 {only} one 1520 hour 5610, and you have made 4160 them equal 2470 to us who 3588 have borne 941 the burden 922 and the scorching 2742 heat 2742 of the day 2250.'
13 "But he answered 611 and said 3004 to one 1520 of them, 'Friend 2083, I am doing 91 you no 3756 wrong 91; did you not agree 4856 with me for a denarius 1220?
14 'Take 142 what 3588 is yours 4674 and go 5217, but I wish 2309 to give 1325 to this 3778 last 2078 man 2078 the same 2532 as to you.
15 'Is it not lawful 1832 for me to do 4160 what 3739 I wish 2309 with what 3588 is my own 1699? Or 2228 is your eye 3788 envious 4190 because 3754 I am 1510 generous 18?'
16 "So 3779 the last 2078 shall be first 4413, and the first 4413 last 2078."
17

Death, Resurrection Foretold

As Jesus 2424 was about 3195 to go 305 up to Jerusalem 2414, He took 3880 the twelve 1427 {disciples} aside by themselves 2398, and on the way 3598 He said 3004 to them,
18 "Behold 2400, we are going 305 up to Jerusalem 2414; and the Son 5207 of Man 444 will be delivered 3860 to the chief 749 priests 749 and scribes 1122, and they will condemn 2632 Him to death 2288,
19 and will hand 3860 Him over to the Gentiles 1484 to mock 1702 and scourge 3146 and crucify 4717 {Him,} and on the third 5154 day 2250 He will be raised 1453 up."
20

Preferment Asked

Then 5119 the mother 3384 of the sons 5207 of Zebedee 2199 came 4334 to Jesus with her sons 5207, bowing 4352 down 4352 and making 154 a request 154 of Him.
21 And He said 3004 to her, "What 5101 do you wish 2309?" She said 3004 to Him, "Command 3004 that in Your kingdom 932 these 3778 two 1417 sons 5207 of mine 1473 may sit 2523 one 1520 on Your right 1188 and one 1520 on Your left 2176."
22 But Jesus 2424 answered 611, "You do not know 3609 what 5101 you are asking 154. Are you able 1410 to drink 4095 the cup 4221 that I am 3195 about 3195 to drink 4095?" They said 3004 to Him, "We are able 1410."
23 He said 3004 to them, "My cup 4221 you shall drink 4095; but to sit 2523 on My right 1188 and on {My} left 2176, this 3778 is not Mine 1699 to give 1325, but it is for those for whom 3739 it has been prepared 2090 by My Father 3962."
24 ¶ And hearing 191 {this,} the ten 1176 became indignant 23 with the two 1417 brothers 80.
25 But Jesus 2424 called 4341 them to Himself and said 3004, "You know 3609 that the rulers 758 of the Gentiles 1484 lord 2634 it over 2634 them, and {their} great 3173 men 3173 exercise 2715 authority 2715 over 2715 them.
26 "It is not this 3779 way 3779 among 1722 you, but whoever wishes 2309 to become 1096 great 3173 among 1722 you shall be your servant 1249,
27 and whoever wishes 2309 to be first 4413 among 1722 you shall be your slave 1401;
28 just 5618 as the Son 5207 of Man 444 did not come 2064 to be served 1247, but to serve 1247, and to give 1325 His life 5590 a ransom 3083 for many 4183."
29

Sight for the Blind

As they were leaving 1607 Jericho 2410, a large 4183 crowd 3793 followed 190 Him.
30 And two 1417 blind 5185 men 5185 sitting 2521 by the road 3598, hearing 191 that Jesus 2424 was passing 3855 by, cried 2896 out, "Lord 2962, have 1653 mercy 1653 on us, Son 5207 of David 1160!"
31 The crowd 3793 sternly 2008 told 2008 them to be quiet 4623, but they cried 2896 out all 3173 the more 3173, "Lord 2962, Son 5207 of David 1160, have 1653 mercy 1653 on us!"
32 And Jesus 2424 stopped 2476 and called 5455 them, and said 3004, "What 5101 do you want 2309 Me to do 4160 for you?"
33 They said 3004 to Him, "Lord 2962, {we want} our eyes 3788 to be opened 455."
34 Moved 4697 with compassion 4697, Jesus 2424 touched 681 their eyes 3659; and immediately 2112 they regained 308 their sight 308 and followed 190 Him.

Chapter 21

1

The Triumphal Entry

When 3753 they had approached 1448 Jerusalem 2414 and had come 2064 to Bethphage 967, at the Mount 3735 of Olives 1636, then 5119 Jesus 2424 sent 649 two 1417 disciples 3101,
2 saying 3004 to them, "Go 4198 into the village 2968 opposite 2713 you, and immediately 2117 you will find 2147 a donkey 3688 tied 1210 {there} and a colt 4454 with her; untie 3089 them and bring 71 them to Me.
3 "If 1437 anyone 5100 says 3004 anything 5100 to you, you shall say 3004, 'The Lord 2962 has 2192 need 5532 of them,' and immediately 2117 he will send 649 them."
4 This 3778 took 1096 place 1096 to fulfill 4137 what 3588 was spoken 3004 through 1223 the prophet 4396:
5 "SAY 3004 TO THE DAUGHTER 2364 OF ZION 4622, 'BEHOLD 2400 YOUR KING 935 IS COMING 2064 TO YOU, GENTLE 4239, AND MOUNTED 1910 ON A DONKEY 3688, EVEN 2532 ON A COLT 4454, THE FOAL 5207 OF A BEAST 5268 OF BURDEN 5268.'"
6 The disciples 3101 went 4198 and did 4160 just 2531 as Jesus 2424 had instructed 4929 them,
7 and brought 71 the donkey 3688 and the colt 4454, and laid 2007 their coats 2440 on them; and He sat 1940 on the coats 2440.
8 Most 4183 of the crowd 3793 spread 4766 their coats 2440 in the road 3598, and others 243 were cutting 2875 branches 2798 from the trees 1186 and spreading 4766 them in the road 3598.
9 The crowds 3793 going 4254 ahead 4254 of Him, and those 3588 who followed 190, were shouting 2896, "Hosanna 5614 to the Son 5207 of David 1160; BLESSED 2127 IS HE WHO COMES 2064 IN THE NAME 3686 OF THE LORD 2962; Hosanna 5614 in the highest 5310!"
10 When He had entered 1525 Jerusalem 2414, all 3956 the city 4172 was stirred 4579, saying 3004, "Who 5101 is this 3778?"
11 And the crowds 3793 were saying 3004, "This 3778 is the prophet 4396 Jesus 2424, from Nazareth 3478 in Galilee 1056."
12

Cleansing the Temple

And Jesus 2424 entered 1525 the temple 2413 and drove 1544 out all 3956 those 3588 who were buying 59 and selling 4453 in the temple 2413, and overturned 2690 the tables 5132 of the money 2855 changers 2855 and the seats 2515 of those 3588 who were selling 4453 doves 4058.
13 And He said 3004 to them, "It is written 1125, 'MY HOUSE 3624 SHALL BE CALLED 2564 A HOUSE 3624 OF PRAYER 4335'; but you are making 4160 it a ROBBERS' 3027 DEN 4693."
14 ¶ And {the} blind 5185 and {the} lame 5560 came 4334 to Him in the temple 2413, and He healed 2323 them.
15 But when the chief 749 priests 749 and the scribes 1122 saw 3708 the wonderful 2297 things 2297 that He had done 4160, and the children 3816 who were shouting 2896 in the temple 2413, "Hosanna 5614 to the Son 5207 of David 1160," they became indignant 23
16 and said 3004 to Him, "Do You hear 191 what 5101 these 3778 {children} are saying 3004?" And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Yes 3483; have you never 3763 read 314, 'OUT OF THE MOUTH 4750 OF INFANTS 3516 AND NURSING 2337 BABIES 2337 YOU HAVE PREPARED 2675 PRAISE 136 FOR YOURSELF'?"
17 And He left 2641 them and went 1831 out of the city 4172 to Bethany 963, and spent 835 the night 835 there 1563.
18

The Barren Fig Tree

Now 1161 in the morning 4404, when He was returning 1877 to the city 4172, He became hungry 3983.
19 Seeing 3708 a lone 1520 fig 4808 tree 4808 by the road 3598, He came 2064 to it and found 2147 nothing 3762 on it except 1508 leaves 5444 only 3440; and He said 3004 to it, "No 3756 longer 3371 shall there ever be {any} fruit 2590 from you." And at once 3916 the fig 4808 tree 4808 withered 3583.
20 ¶ Seeing 3708 {this,} the disciples 3101 were amazed 2296 and asked 3004, "How 4459 did the fig 4808 tree 4808 wither 3583 {all} at once 3916?"
21 And Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to them, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, if 1437 you have 2192 faith 4102 and do not doubt 1252, you will not only 3440 do 4160 what 3588 was done to the fig 4808 tree 4808, but even 2579 if 2579 you say 3004 to this 3778 mountain 3735, 'Be taken 142 up and cast 906 into the sea 2281,' it will happen 1096.
22 "And all 3956 things 3956 you ask 154 in prayer 4335, believing 4100, you will receive 2983."
23

Authority Challenged

When He entered 2064 the temple 2413, the chief 749 priests 749 and the elders 4245 of the people 2992 came 4334 to Him while He was teaching 1321, and said 3004, "By what 4169 authority 1849 are You doing 4160 these 3778 things 3778, and who 5101 gave 1325 You this 3778 authority 1849?"
24 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "I will also 2532 ask 2065 you one 1520 thing 3056, which 3739 if 1437 you tell 3004 Me, I will also 2532 tell 3004 you by what 4169 authority 1849 I do 4160 these 3778 things 3778.
25 "The baptism 908 of John 2491 was from what 4159 {source,} from heaven 3772 or 2228 from men 444?" And they {began} reasoning 1260 among 1722 themselves 1438, saying 3004, "If 1437 we say 3004, 'From heaven 3772,' He will say 3004 to us, 'Then 3767 why did you not believe 4100 him?'
26 "But if 1437 we say 3004, 'From men 444,' we fear 5399 the people 3793; for they all 3956 regard 2192 John 2491 as a prophet 4396."
27 And answering 611 Jesus 2424, they said 3004, "We do not know 3609." He also 2532 said 5346 to them, "Neither 3761 will I tell 3004 you by what 4169 authority 1849 I do 4160 these 3778 things 3778.
28

Parable of Two Sons

"But what 5101 do you think 1380? A man 444 had 2192 two 1417 sons 5043, and he came 4334 to the first 4413 and said 3004, 'Son 5043, go 5217 work 2038 today 4594 in the vineyard 290.'
29 "And he answered 611, 'I will not'; but afterward 5305 he regretted 3338 it and went 565.
30 "The man came 4334 to the second 1208 and said 3004 the same 5615 thing 5615; and he answered 611, 'I {will 2309,} sir 2962'; but he did not go 565.
31 "Which 5101 of the two 1417 did 4160 the will 2307 of his father 3962?" They said 3004, "The first 4413." Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you that the tax 5057 collectors 5057 and prostitutes 4204 will get 4254 into the kingdom 932 of God 2316 before 4254 you.
32 "For John 2491 came 2064 to you in the way 3598 of righteousness 1343 and you did not believe 4100 him; but the tax 5057 collectors 5057 and prostitutes 4204 did believe 4100 him; and you, seeing 3708 {this,} did not even 3761 feel 3338 remorse 3338 afterward 5305 so as to believe 4100 him.
33

Parable of the Landowner

"Listen 191 to another 243 parable 3850. There was a landowner 3617 who 3748 PLANTED 5452 A VINEYARD 290 AND PUT 4060 A WALL 5418 AROUND 4060 IT AND DUG 3736 A WINE 3025 PRESS 3025 IN IT, AND BUILT 3618 A TOWER 4444, and rented 1554 it out to vine-growers 1092 and went 589 on a journey 589.
34 "When 3753 the harvest 2590 time 2540 approached 1448, he sent 649 his slaves 1401 to the vine-growers 1092 to receive 2983 his produce 2590.
35 "The vine-growers 1092 took 2983 his slaves 1401 and beat 1194 one 3739, and killed 615 another, and stoned 3036 a third 3739.
36 "Again 3825 he sent 649 another 243 group of slaves 1401 larger 4183 than the first 4413; and they did 4160 the same 5615 thing 5615 to them.
37 "But afterward 5305 he sent 649 his son 5207 to them, saying 3004, 'They will respect 1788 my son 5207.'
38 "But when the vine-growers 1092 saw 3708 the son 5207, they said 3004 among 1722 themselves 1438, 'This 3778 is the heir 2818; come 1205, let us kill 615 him and seize 2192 his inheritance 2817.'
39 "They took 2983 him, and threw 1544 him out of the vineyard 290 and killed 615 him.
40 "Therefore 3767 when 3752 the owner 2962 of the vineyard 290 comes 2064, what 5101 will he do 4160 to those 1565 vine-growers 1092?"
41 They said 3004 to Him, "He will bring 622 those 846 wretches 2556 to a wretched 2560 end 622, and will rent 1554 out the vineyard 290 to other 243 vine-growers 1092 who 3748 will pay 591 him the proceeds 2590 at the {proper} seasons 2540."
42 ¶ Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Did you never 3763 read 314 in the Scriptures 1124, 'THE STONE 3037 WHICH 3739 THE BUILDERS 3618 REJECTED 593, THIS 3778 BECAME 1096 THE CHIEF 2776 CORNER 1137 {stone;} THIS 3778 CAME 1096 ABOUT FROM THE LORD 2962, AND IT IS MARVELOUS 2298 IN OUR EYES 3788'?
43 "Therefore I say 3004 to you, the kingdom 932 of God 2316 will be taken 142 away 142 from you and given 1325 to a people 1484, producing 4160 the fruit 2590 of it.
44 "And he who falls 4098 on this 3778 stone 3037 will be broken 4917 to pieces 4917; but on whomever it falls 4098, it will scatter 3039 him like 3039 dust 3039."
45 ¶ When the chief 749 priests 749 and the Pharisees 5330 heard 191 His parables 3850, they understood 1097 that He was speaking 3004 about 4012 them.
46 When they sought 2212 to seize 2902 Him, they feared 5399 the people 3793, because 1893 they considered 2192 Him to be a prophet 4396.

Chapter 22

1

Parable of the Marriage Feast

Jesus 2424 spoke 3004 to them again 3825 in parables 3850, saying 3004,
2 "The kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 may be compared 3666 to a king who 3748 gave 4160 a wedding 1062 feast 1062 for his son 5207.
3 "And he sent 649 out his slaves 1401 to call 2564 those 3588 who had been invited 2564 to the wedding 1062 feast 1062, and they were unwilling to come 2064.
4 "Again 3825 he sent 649 out other 243 slaves 1401 saying 3004, 'Tell 3004 those 3588 who have been invited 2564, "Behold 2400, I have prepared 2090 my dinner 712; my oxen 5022 and my fattened 4619 livestock 4619 are {all} butchered 2380 and everything 3956 is ready 2092; come 1205 to the wedding 1062 feast 1062."'
5 "But they paid 272 no 272 attention 272 and went 565 their way 565, one 3739 to his own 2398 farm 68, another to his business 1171,
6 and the rest 3062 seized 2902 his slaves 1401 and mistreated 5195 them and killed 615 them.
7 "But the king 935 was enraged 3710, and he sent 3992 his armies 4753 and destroyed 622 those 1565 murderers 5406 and set 1705 their city 4172 on fire 1705.
8 "Then 5119 he said 3004 to his slaves 1401, 'The wedding 1062 is ready 2092, but those 3588 who were invited 2564 were not worthy 514.
9 'Go 4198 therefore 3767 to the main 1327 highways 3598, and as many 3745 as you find 2147 {there,} invite 2564 to the wedding 1062 feast 1062.'
10 "Those 1565 slaves 1401 went 1831 out into the streets 3598 and gathered 4863 together 4863 all 3956 they found 2147, both 5037 evil 4190 and good 18; and the wedding 3567 hall 3567 was filled 4092 with dinner 345 guests 345.
11 ¶ "But when the king 935 came 1525 in to look 2300 over 2300 the dinner 345 guests 345, he saw 3708 a man 444 there 1563 who was not dressed 1746 in wedding 1062 clothes 1742,
12 and he said 3004 to him, 'Friend 2083, how 4459 did you come 1525 in here 5602 without wedding 1062 clothes 1742?' And the man was speechless 5392.
13 "Then 5119 the king 935 said 3004 to the servants 1249, 'Bind 1210 him hand 5495 and foot 4228, and throw 1544 him into the outer 1857 darkness 4655; in that place 1563 there 1563 will be weeping 2805 and gnashing 1030 of teeth 3599.'
14 "For many 4183 are called 2822, but few 3641 {are} chosen 1588."
15

Tribute to Caesar

Then 5119 the Pharisees 5330 went 4198 and plotted 4824 together 4824 how 3704 they might trap 3802 Him in what He said 3056.
16 And they sent 649 their disciples 3101 to Him, along with the Herodians 2265, saying 3004, "Teacher 1320, we know 3609 that You are truthful 227 and teach 1321 the way 3598 of God 2316 in truth 225, and defer 3199 to no 3762 one 3762; for You are not partial to any 3762.
17 "Tell 3004 us then 3767, what 5101 do You think 1380? Is it lawful 1832 to give 1325 a poll-tax 2778 to Caesar 2541, or 2228 not?"
18 But Jesus 2424 perceived 1097 their malice 4189, and said 3004, "Why 5101 are you testing 3985 Me, you hypocrites 5273?
19 "Show 1925 Me the coin 3546 {used} for the poll-tax 2778." And they brought 4374 Him a denarius 1220.
20 And He said 3004 to them, "Whose 5101 likeness 1504 and inscription 1923 is this 3778?"
21 They said 3004 to Him, "Caesar's 2541." Then 5119 He said 3004 to them, "Then 3767 render 591 to Caesar 2541 the things that are Caesar's 2541; and to God 2316 the things that are God's 2316."
22 And hearing 191 {this,} they were amazed 2296, and leaving 863 Him, they went 565 away 565.
23

Jesus Answers the Sadducees

On that day 2250 {some} Sadducees 4523 (who say 3004 there is no 3361 resurrection 386) came 4334 to Jesus and questioned 1905 Him,
24 asking 3004, "Teacher 1320, Moses 3475 said 3004, 'IF 1437 A MAN 5100 DIES 599 HAVING 2192 NO 3361 CHILDREN 5043, HIS BROTHER 80 AS NEXT OF KIN SHALL MARRY 1918 HIS WIFE 1135, AND RAISE 450 UP CHILDREN 5043 FOR HIS BROTHER 80.'
25 "Now 1161 there were seven 2033 brothers 80 with us; and the first 4413 married 1060 and died 5053, and having 2192 no 3361 children 4690 left 863 his wife 1135 to his brother 80;
26 so 3668 also 2532 the second 1208, and the third 5154, down 2193 to the seventh 2033.
27 "Last 5305 of all 3956, the woman 1135 died 599.
28 "In the resurrection 386, therefore 3767, whose 5101 wife 1135 of the seven 2033 will she be? For they all 3956 had 2192 {married} her."
29 ¶ But Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to them, "You are mistaken 4105, not understanding 3609 the Scriptures 1124 nor 3366 the power 1411 of God 2316.
30 "For in the resurrection 386 they neither 3777 marry 1060 nor 3777 are given 1061 in marriage 1061, but are like 5613 angels 32 in heaven 3772.
31 "But regarding 4012 the resurrection 386 of the dead 3498, have you not read 314 what 3588 was spoken 3004 to you by God 2316:
32 'I AM 1510 THE GOD 2316 OF ABRAHAM 11, AND THE GOD 2316 OF ISAAC 2464, AND THE GOD 2316 OF JACOB 2384'? He is not the God 2316 of the dead 3498 but of the living 2198."
33 When the crowds 3793 heard 191 {this,} they were astonished 1605 at His teaching 1322.
34 ¶ But when the Pharisees 5330 heard 191 that Jesus had silenced 5392 the Sadducees 4523, they gathered 4863 themselves together.
35 One 1520 of them, a lawyer 3544, asked 1905 Him {a question,} testing 3985 Him,
36 "Teacher 1320, which 4169 is the great 3173 commandment 1785 in the Law 3551?"
37 And He said 5346 to him, " 'YOU SHALL LOVE 25 THE LORD 2962 YOUR GOD 2316 WITH ALL 3650 YOUR HEART 2588, AND WITH ALL 3650 YOUR SOUL 5590, AND WITH ALL 3650 YOUR MIND 1271.'
38 "This 3778 is the great 3173 and foremost 4413 commandment 1785.
39 "The second 1208 is like 3664 it, 'YOU SHALL LOVE 25 YOUR NEIGHBOR 4139 AS YOURSELF 4572.'
40 "On these 3778 two 1417 commandments 1785 depend 2910 the whole 3650 Law 3551 and the Prophets 4396."
41 ¶ Now 1161 while the Pharisees 5330 were gathered 4863 together 4863, Jesus 2424 asked 1905 them a question 1905:
42 "What 5101 do you think 1380 about 4012 the Christ 5547, whose 5101 son 5207 is He?" They said 3004 to Him, "{The son} of David 1160."
43 He said 3004 to them, "Then 3767 how 4459 does David 1160 in the Spirit 4151 call 2564 Him 'Lord 2962,' saying 3004,
44 'THE LORD 2962 SAID 3004 TO MY LORD 2962, "SIT 2521 AT MY RIGHT 1188 HAND 1188, UNTIL 2193 I PUT 5087 YOUR ENEMIES 2190 BENEATH 5270 YOUR FEET 4228"'?
45 "If 1487 David 1160 then 3767 calls 2564 Him 'Lord 2962,' how 4459 is He his son 5207?"
46 No 3762 one 3762 was able 1410 to answer 611 Him a word 3056, nor 3761 did anyone 5100 dare 5111 from that day 2250 on to ask 1905 Him another 3765 question 1905.

Chapter 23

1

Pharisaism Exposed

Then 5119 Jesus 2424 spoke 2980 to the crowds 3793 and to His disciples 3101,
2 saying 3004: "The scribes 1122 and the Pharisees 5330 have seated 2523 themselves 2523 in the chair 2515 of Moses 3475;
3 therefore 3767 all 3956 that they tell 3004 you, do 4160 and observe 5083, but do not do 4160 according 2596 to their deeds 2041; for they say 3004 {things} and do not do 4160 {them.}
4 "They tie 1195 up heavy 926 burdens 5413 and lay 2007 them on men's 444 shoulders 5606, but they themselves 846 are unwilling to move 2795 them with {so much as} a finger 1147.
5 "But they do 4160 all 3956 their deeds 2041 to be noticed 2300 by men 444; for they broaden 4115 their phylacteries 5440 and lengthen 3170 the tassels 2899 {of their garments.}
6 "They love 5368 the place 4411 of honor 4411 at banquets 1173 and the chief 4410 seats 4410 in the synagogues 4864,
7 and respectful greetings 783 in the market 58 places 58, and being called 2564 Rabbi 4461 by men 444.
8 "But do not be called 2564 Rabbi 4461; for One 1520 is your Teacher 1320, and you are all 3956 brothers 80.
9 "Do not call 2564 {anyone} on earth 1093 your father 3962; for One 1520 is your Father 3962, He who is in heaven 3770.
10 "Do not be called 2564 leaders 2519; for One 1520 is your Leader 2519, {that is,} Christ 5547.
11 "But the greatest 3173 among you shall be your servant 1249.
12 "Whoever 3748 exalts 5312 himself 1438 shall be humbled 5013; and whoever 3748 humbles 5013 himself 1438 shall be exalted 5312.
13

Eight Woes

"But woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273, because 3754 you shut 2808 off the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 from people 444; for you do not enter 1525 in yourselves 4771, nor 3761 do you allow 863 those 3588 who are entering 1525 to go 1525 in.
14 ["Woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273, because 3754 you devour 2719 widows' 5503 houses 3614, and for a pretense 4392 you make 4336 long 3117 prayers 4336; therefore you will receive 2983 greater 4053 condemnation 2917.]
15 ¶ "Woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273, because 3754 you travel 4013 around 4013 on sea 2281 and land 3584 to make 4160 one 1520 proselyte 4339; and when 3752 he becomes 1096 one, you make 4160 him twice 1362 as much 1362 a son 5207 of hell 1067 as yourselves 4771.
16 ¶ "Woe 3759 to you, blind 5185 guides 3595, who say 3004, 'Whoever swears 3660 by the temple 3485, {that} is nothing 3762; but whoever swears 3660 by the gold 5557 of the temple 3485 is obligated 3784.'
17 "You fools 3474 and blind 5185 men 5185! Which 5101 is more 3173 important 3173, the gold 5557 or 2228 the temple 3485 that sanctified 37 the gold 5557?
18 "And, 'Whoever swears 3660 by the altar 2379, {that} is nothing 3762, but whoever swears 3660 by the offering 1435 on it, he is obligated 3784.'
19 "You blind 5185 men 5185, which 5101 is more 3173 important 3173, the offering 1435, or 2228 the altar 2379 that sanctifies 37 the offering 1435?
20 "Therefore 3767, whoever 3588 swears 3660 by the altar 2379, swears 3660 {both} by the altar 2379 and by everything 3956 on it.
21 "And whoever 3588 swears 3660 by the temple 3485, swears 3660 {both} by the temple 846 and by Him who dwells 2730 within 2730 it.
22 "And whoever 3588 swears 3660 by heaven 3772, swears 3660 {both} by the throne 2362 of God 2316 and by Him who sits 2521 upon it.
23 ¶ "Woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273! For you tithe 586 mint 2238 and dill 432 and cummin 2951, and have neglected 863 the weightier 926 provisions 926 of the law 3551: justice 2920 and mercy 1656 and faithfulness 4102; but these 3778 are the things you should 1163 have done 4160 without 3361 neglecting 863 the others 2548.
24 "You blind 5185 guides 3595, who strain 1368 out a gnat 2971 and swallow 2666 a camel 2574!
25 ¶ "Woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273! For you clean 2511 the outside 1855 of the cup 4221 and of the dish 3953, but inside 2081 they are full 1073 of robbery 724 and self-indulgence 192.
26 "You blind 5185 Pharisee 5330, first 4413 clean 2511 the inside 1787 of the cup 4221 and of the dish 3953, so 2443 that the outside 1622 of it may become 1096 clean 2513 also 2532.
27 ¶ "Woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273! For you are like 3945 whitewashed 2867 tombs 5028 which 3748 on the outside 1855 appear 5316 beautiful 5611, but inside 2081 they are full 1073 of dead 3498 men's 3498 bones 3747 and all 3956 uncleanness 167.
28 "So 3779 you, too 2532, outwardly 1855 appear 5316 righteous 1342 to men 444, but inwardly 2081 you are full 3324 of hypocrisy 5272 and lawlessness 458.
29 ¶ "Woe 3759 to you, scribes 1122 and Pharisees 5330, hypocrites 5273! For you build 3618 the tombs 5028 of the prophets 4396 and adorn 2885 the monuments 3419 of the righteous 1342,
30 and say 3004, 'If 1487 we had been 1510 {living} in the days 2250 of our fathers 3962, we would not have been 1510 partners 2844 with them in {shedding} the blood 129 of the prophets 4396.'
31 "So 5620 you testify 3140 against yourselves 1438, that you are sons 5207 of those 3588 who murdered 5407 the prophets 4396.
32 "Fill 4137 up, then 2532, the measure 3358 {of the guilt} of your fathers 3962.
33 "You serpents 3789, you brood 1081 of vipers 2191, how 4459 will you escape 5343 the sentence 2920 of hell 1067?
34 ¶ "Therefore, behold 2400, I am sending 649 you prophets 4396 and wise 4680 men 4680 and scribes 1122; some 1537 of them you will kill 615 and crucify 4717, and some 1537 of them you will scourge 3146 in your synagogues 4864, and persecute 1377 from city 4172 to city 4172,
35 so 3704 that upon you may fall 2064 {the guilt of} all 3956 the righteous 1342 blood 129 shed 1632 on earth 1093, from the blood 129 of righteous 1342 Abel 6 to the blood 129 of Zechariah 2197, the son 5207 of Berechiah 914, whom 3739 you murdered 5407 between 3342 the temple 3485 and the altar 2379.
36 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, all 3956 these 3778 things 3778 will come 2240 upon this 3778 generation 1074.
37

Lament over Jerusalem

"Jerusalem 2419, Jerusalem 2419, who kills 615 the prophets 4396 and stones 3036 those 3588 who are sent 649 to her! How 4212 often 4212 I wanted 2309 to gather 1996 your children 5043 together 1996, the way 5158 a hen 3733 gathers 1996 her chicks 3556 under 5259 her wings 4420, and you were unwilling.
38 "Behold 2400, your house 3624 is being left 863 to you desolate 2048!
39 "For I say 3004 to you, from now 737 on you will not see 3708 Me until 2193 you say 3004, 'BLESSED 2127 IS HE WHO COMES 2064 IN THE NAME 3686 OF THE LORD 2962!'"

Chapter 24

1

Signs of Christ's Return

Jesus 2424 came 1831 out from the temple 2413 and was going 4198 away 4198 when 2532 His disciples 3101 came 4334 up to point 1925 out the temple 2413 buildings 3619 to Him.
2 And He said 3004 to them, "Do you not see 991 all 3956 these 3778 things 3778? Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, not one stone 3037 here 5602 will be left 863 upon another 3037, which 3739 will not be torn 2647 down 2647."
3 ¶ As He was sitting 2521 on the Mount 3735 of Olives 1636, the disciples 3101 came 4334 to Him privately, saying 3004, "Tell 3004 us, when 4219 will these 3778 things 3778 happen 1510, and what 5101 {will be} the sign 4592 of Your coming 3952, and of the end 4930 of the age 165?"
4 ¶ And Jesus 2424 answered 611 and said 3004 to them, "See 991 to it that no 3361 one 5100 misleads 4105 you.
5 "For many 4183 will come 2064 in My name 3686, saying 3004, 'I am 1510 the Christ 5547,' and will mislead 4105 many 4183.
6 "You will 3195 be hearing 191 of wars 4171 and rumors 189 of wars 4171. See 3708 that you are not frightened 2360, for {those things} must 1163 take 1096 place 1096, but {that} is not yet 3768 the end 5056.
7 "For nation 1484 will rise 1453 against 1909 nation 1484, and kingdom 932 against 1909 kingdom 932, and in various 2596 places 5117 there will be famines 3042 and earthquakes 4578.
8 "But all 3956 these 3778 things 3778 are {merely} the beginning 746 of birth 5604 pangs 5604.
9 ¶ "Then 5119 they will deliver 3860 you to tribulation 2347, and will kill 615 you, and you will be hated 3404 by all 3956 nations 1484 because 1223 of My name 3686.
10 "At that time 5119 many 4183 will fall 4624 away 4624 and will betray 3860 one 240 another 240 and hate 3404 one 240 another 240.
11 "Many 4183 false 5578 prophets 5578 will arise 1453 and will mislead 4105 many 4183.
12 "Because 1223 lawlessness 458 is increased 4129, most 4183 people's 4183 love 26 will grow 5594 cold 5594.
13 "But the one who endures 5278 to the end 5056, he will be saved 4982.
14 "This 3778 gospel 2098 of the kingdom 932 shall be preached 2784 in the whole 3650 world 3625 as a testimony 3142 to all 3956 the nations 1484, and then 5119 the end 5056 will come 2240.
15

Perilous Times

"Therefore 3767 when 3752 you see 3708 the ABOMINATION 946 OF DESOLATION 2050 which was spoken 3004 of through 1223 Daniel 1158 the prophet 4396, standing 2476 in the holy 40 place 5117 (let the reader 314 understand 3539),
16 then 5119 those 3588 who 3588 are in Judea 2453 must flee 5343 to the mountains 3735.
17 "Whoever 3588 is on the housetop 1430 must not go 2597 down 2597 to get 142 the things out that are in his house 3614.
18 "Whoever 3588 is in the field 68 must not turn 1994 back to get 142 his cloak 2440.
19 "But woe 3759 to those 3588 who are pregnant 1064 and to those 3588 who are nursing 2337 babies 2337 in those 3588 days 2250!
20 "But pray 4336 that your flight 5437 will not be in the winter 5494, or 3366 on a Sabbath 4521.
21 "For then 5119 there will be a great 3173 tribulation 2347, such 3634 as has not occurred 1096 since 575 the beginning 746 of the world 2889 until 2193 now 3568, nor 3761 ever will.
22 "Unless 1487 those 1565 days 2250 had been cut 2856 short 2856, no life 4561 would have been saved 4982; but for the sake 1223 of the elect 1588 those 1565 days 2250 will be cut 2856 short 2856.
23 "Then 5119 if 1437 anyone 5100 says 3004 to you, 'Behold 2400, here 5602 is the Christ 5547,' or 2228 'There 5602 {He is,}' do not believe 4100 {him.}
24 "For false 5580 Christs 5580 and false 5578 prophets 5578 will arise 1453 and will show 1325 great 3173 signs 4592 and wonders 5059, so 5620 as to mislead 4105, if 1487 possible 1415, even 2532 the elect 1588.
25 "Behold 2400, I have told 4275 you in advance 4275.
26 "So 3767 if 1437 they say 3004 to you, 'Behold 2400, He is in the wilderness 2048,' do not go 1831 out, {or,} 'Behold 2400, He is in the inner 5009 rooms 5009,' do not believe 4100 {them.}
27 "For just 5618 as the lightning 796 comes 1831 from the east 395 and flashes 5316 even 2193 to the west 1424, so 3779 will the coming 3952 of the Son 5207 of Man 444 be.
28 "Wherever the corpse 4430 is, there 1563 the vultures 105 will gather 4863.
29

The Glorious Return

"But immediately 2112 after 3326 the tribulation 2347 of those 1565 days 2250 THE SUN 2246 WILL BE DARKENED 4654, AND THE MOON 4582 WILL NOT GIVE 1325 ITS LIGHT 5338, AND THE STARS 792 WILL FALL 4098 from the sky 3772, and the powers 1411 of the heavens 3772 will be shaken 4531.
30 "And then 5119 the sign 4592 of the Son 5207 of Man 444 will appear 5316 in the sky 3772, and then 5119 all 3956 the tribes 5443 of the earth 1093 will mourn 2875, and they will see 3708 the SON 5207 OF MAN 444 COMING 2064 ON THE CLOUDS 3507 OF THE SKY 3772 with power 1411 and great 4183 glory 1391.
31 "And He will send 649 forth 649 His angels 32 with A GREAT 3173 TRUMPET 4536 and THEY WILL GATHER 1996 TOGETHER 1996 His elect 1588 from the four 5064 winds 417, from one end 206 of the sky 3772 to the other 206.
32

Parable of the Fig Tree

"Now 1161 learn 3129 the parable 3850 from the fig 4808 tree 4808: when 3752 its branch 2798 has already 2235 become 1096 tender 527 and puts 1631 forth 1631 its leaves 5444, you know 1097 that summer 2330 is near 1451;
33 so 3779, you too 2532, when 3752 you see 3708 all 3956 these 3778 things 3778, recognize 1097 that He is near 1451, {right} at the door 2374.
34 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, this 3778 generation 1074 will not pass 3928 away 3928 until 2193 all 3956 these 3778 things 3778 take 1096 place 1096.
35 "Heaven 3772 and earth 1093 will pass 3928 away 3928, but My words 3056 will not pass 3928 away 3928.
36 ¶ "But of that day 2250 and hour 5610 no 3762 one 3762 knows 3609, not even 3761 the angels 32 of heaven 3772, nor 3761 the Son 5207, but the Father 3962 alone 3441.
37 "For the coming 3952 of the Son 5207 of Man 444 will be just 5618 like 5618 the days 2250 of Noah 3575.
38 "For as in those 1565 days 2250 before 4253 the flood 2627 they were eating 5176 and drinking 4095, marrying 1060 and giving 1061 in marriage 1061, until 891 the day 2250 that Noah 3575 entered 1525 the ark 2787,
39 and they did not understand 1097 until 2193 the flood 2627 came 2064 and took 142 them all 537 away 142; so 3779 will the coming 3952 of the Son 5207 of Man 444 be.
40 "Then 5119 there will be two 1417 men 1417 in the field 68; one 1520 will be taken 3880 and one 1520 will be left 863.
41 "Two 1417 women {will be} grinding 229 at the mill 3458; one 1520 will be taken 3880 and one 1520 will be left 863.
42

Be Ready for His Coming

"Therefore 3767 be on the alert 1127, for you do not know 3609 which 4169 day 2250 your Lord 2962 is coming 2064.
43 "But be sure 1097 of this 1565, that if 1487 the head 3617 of the house 3617 had known 3609 at what 4169 time 5438 of the night 5438 the thief 2812 was coming 2064, he would have been on the alert 1127 and would not have allowed 1439 his house 3614 to be broken 1358 into.
44 "For this 3778 reason 1223 you also 2532 must be ready 2092; for the Son 5207 of Man 444 is coming 2064 at an hour 5610 when 3739 you do not think 1380 {He will.}
45 ¶ "Who 5101 then 686 is the faithful 4103 and sensible 5429 slave 1401 whom 3739 his master 2962 put 2525 in charge 2525 of his household 3610 to give 1325 them their food 5160 at the proper 2540 time 2540?
46 "Blessed 3107 is that slave 1401 whom 3739 his master 2962 finds 2147 so 3779 doing 4160 when he comes 2064.
47 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you that he will put 2525 him in charge 2525 of all 3956 his possessions 5225.
48 "But if 1437 that evil 2556 slave 1401 says 3004 in his heart 2588, 'My master 2962 is not coming 5549 for a long 5549 time 5549,'
49 and begins 757 to beat 5180 his fellow 4889 slaves 4889 and eat 2068 and drink 4095 with drunkards 3184;
50 the master 2962 of that slave 1401 will come 2240 on a day 2250 when 3739 he does not expect 4328 {him} and at an hour 5610 which 3739 he does not know 1097,
51 and will cut 1371 him in pieces 1371 and assign 5087 him a place 3313 with the hypocrites 5273; in that place 3313 there 1563 will be weeping 2805 and gnashing 1030 of teeth 3599.

Chapter 25

1

Parable of Ten Virgins

"Then 5119 the kingdom 932 of heaven 3772 will be comparable 3666 to ten 1176 virgins 3933, who 3748 took 2983 their lamps 2985 and went 1831 out to meet 5222 the bridegroom 3566.
2 "Five 4002 of them were foolish 3474, and five 4002 were prudent 5429.
3 "For when the foolish 3474 took 2983 their lamps 2985, they took 2983 no 3756 oil 1637 with them,
4 but the prudent 5429 took 2983 oil 1637 in flasks 30 along with their lamps 2985.
5 "Now 1161 while the bridegroom 3566 was delaying 5549, they all 3956 got 3573 drowsy 3573 and {began} to sleep 2518.
6 "But at midnight there was a shout 2906, 'Behold 2400, the bridegroom 3566! Come 1831 out to meet 529 {him.}'
7 "Then 5119 all 3956 those 1565 virgins 3933 rose 1453 and trimmed 2885 their lamps 2985.
8 "The foolish 3474 said 3004 to the prudent 5429, 'Give 1325 us some 1537 of your oil 1637, for our lamps 2985 are going 4570 out.'
9 "But the prudent 5429 answered 611, 'No 3379, there will not be enough 714 for us and you {too;} go 4198 instead 3123 to the dealers 4453 and buy 59 {some} for yourselves 1438.'
10 "And while they were going 565 away 565 to make 59 the purchase 59, the bridegroom 3566 came 2064, and those 3588 who were ready 2092 went 1525 in with him to the wedding 1062 feast 1062; and the door 2374 was shut 2808.
11 "Later 5305 the other 3062 virgins 3933 also 2532 came 2064, saying 3004, 'Lord 2962, lord 2962, open 455 up for us.'
12 "But he answered 611, 'Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, I do not know 3609 you.'
13 "Be on the alert 1127 then 3767, for you do not know 3609 the day 2250 nor 3761 the hour 5610.
14

Parable of the Talents

"For {it is} just 5618 like 5618 a man 444 {about} to go 589 on a journey 589, who called 2564 his own 2398 slaves 1401 and entrusted 3860 his possessions 5225 to them.
15 "To one 3739 he gave 1325 five 4002 talents 5007, to another, two 1417, and to another, one 1520, each 1538 according 2596 to his own 2398 ability 1411; and he went 589 on his journey 589.
16 "Immediately 2112 the one who had received 2983 the five 4002 talents 5007 went 4198 and traded 2038 with them, and gained 2770 five 4002 more 243 talents.
17 "In the same 5615 manner 5615 the one who {had received} the two 1417 {talents} gained 2770 two 1417 more 243.
18 "But he who received 2983 the one 1520 {talent} went 565 away 565, and dug 3736 {a hole} in the ground 1093 and hid 2928 his master's 2962 money 694.
19 ¶ "Now 1161 after 3326 a long 4183 time 5550 the master 2962 of those 1565 slaves 1401 came 2064 and settled 4868 accounts 3056 with them.
20 "The one who had received 2983 the five 4002 talents 5007 came 4334 up and brought 4374 five 4002 more 243 talents 5007, saying 3004, 'Master 2962, you entrusted 3860 five 4002 talents 5007 to me. See 2396, I have gained 2770 five 4002 more 243 talents 5007.'
21 "His master 2962 said 5346 to him, 'Well 2095 done 2095, good 18 and faithful 4103 slave 1401. You were faithful 4103 with a few 3641 things 3641, I will put 2525 you in charge 2525 of many 4183 things 4183; enter 1525 into the joy 5479 of your master 2962.'
22 ¶ "Also 2532 the one 3588 who 3588 {had received} the two 1417 talents 5007 came 4334 up and said 3004, 'Master 2962, you entrusted 3860 two 1417 talents 5007 to me. See 2396, I have gained 2770 two 1417 more 243 talents 5007.'
23 "His master 2962 said 5346 to him, 'Well 2095 done 2095, good 18 and faithful 4103 slave 1401. You were faithful 4103 with a few 3641 things 3641, I will put 2525 you in charge 2525 of many 4183 things 4183; enter 1525 into the joy 5479 of your master 2962.'
24 ¶ "And the one also 2532 who had received 2983 the one 1520 talent 5007 came 4334 up and said 3004, 'Master 2962, I knew 1097 you to be a hard 4642 man 444, reaping 2325 where 3699 you did not sow 4687 and gathering 4863 where 3606 you scattered 1287 no 3756 {seed.}
25 'And I was afraid 5399, and went 565 away 565 and hid 2928 your talent 5007 in the ground 1093. See 2396, you have 2192 what 3588 is yours 4674.'
26 ¶ "But his master 2962 answered 611 and said 3004 to him, 'You wicked 4190, lazy 3636 slave 1401, you knew 3609 that I reap 2325 where 3699 I did not sow 4687 and gather 4863 where 3606 I scattered 1287 no 3756 {seed.}
27 'Then 3767 you ought 1163 to have put 906 my money 694 in the bank 5133, and on my arrival 2064 I would have received 2865 my {money} back 2865 with interest 5110.
28 'Therefore 3767 take 142 away 142 the talent 5007 from him, and give 1325 it to the one who has 2192 the ten 1176 talents 5007.'
29 ¶ "For to everyone 3956 who has 2192, {more} shall be given 1325, and he will have 4052 an abundance 4052; but from the one who does not have 2192, even 2532 what 3739 he does have 2192 shall be taken 142 away 142.
30 "Throw 1544 out the worthless 888 slave 1401 into the outer 1857 darkness 4655; in that place 1563 there 1563 will be weeping 2805 and gnashing 1030 of teeth 3599.
31

The Judgment

"But when 3752 the Son 5207 of Man 444 comes 2064 in His glory 1391, and all 3956 the angels 32 with Him, then 5119 He will sit 2523 on His glorious 1391 throne 2362.
32 "All 3956 the nations 1484 will be gathered 4863 before 1715 Him; and He will separate 873 them from one 240 another 240, as the shepherd 4166 separates 873 the sheep 4263 from the goats 2056;
33 and He will put 2476 the sheep 4263 on His right 1188, and the goats 2055 on the left 2176.
34 ¶ "Then 5119 the King 935 will say 3004 to those 3588 on His right 1188, 'Come 1205, you who are blessed 2127 of My Father 3962, inherit 2816 the kingdom 932 prepared 2090 for you from the foundation 2602 of the world 2889.
35 'For I was hungry 3983, and you gave 1325 Me {something} to eat 2068; I was thirsty 1372, and you gave 4222 Me {something} to drink 4222; I was a stranger 3581, and you invited 4863 Me in;
36 naked 1131, and you clothed 4016 Me; I was sick 770, and you visited 1980 Me; I was in prison 5438, and you came 2064 to Me.'
37 "Then 5119 the righteous 1342 will answer 611 Him, 'Lord 2962, when 4219 did we see 3708 You hungry 3983, and feed 5142 You, or 2228 thirsty 1372, and give 4222 You {something} to drink 4222?
38 'And when 4219 did we see 3708 You a stranger 3581, and invite 4863 You in, or 2228 naked 1131, and clothe 4016 You?
39 'When 4219 did we see 3708 You sick 770, or 2228 in prison 5438, and come 2064 to You?'
40 "The King 935 will answer 611 and say 3004 to them, 'Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, to the extent that you did 4160 it to one 1520 of these 3778 brothers 80 of Mine 1473, {even} the least 1646 {of them,} you did 4160 it to Me.'
41 ¶ "Then 5119 He will also 2532 say 3004 to those 3588 on His left 2176, 'Depart 4198 from Me, accursed 2672 ones, into the eternal 166 fire 4442 which has been prepared 2090 for the devil 1228 and his angels 32;
42 for I was hungry 3983, and you gave 1325 Me {nothing} to eat 2068; I was thirsty 1372, and you gave 4222 Me nothing 3756 to drink 4222;
43 I was a stranger 3581, and you did not invite 4863 Me in; naked 1131, and you did not clothe 4016 Me; sick 772, and in prison 5438, and you did not visit 1980 Me.'
44 "Then 5119 they themselves 846 also 2532 will answer 611, 'Lord 2962, when 4219 did we see 3708 You hungry 3983, or 2228 thirsty 1372, or 2228 a stranger 3581, or 2228 naked 1131, or 2228 sick 772, or 2228 in prison 5438, and did not take 1247 care 1247 of You?'
45 "Then 5119 He will answer 611 them, 'Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, to the extent that you did 4160 not do 4160 it to one 1520 of the least 1646 of these 3778, you did 4160 not do 4160 it to Me.'
46 "These 3778 will go 565 away 565 into eternal 166 punishment 2851, but the righteous 1342 into eternal 166 life 2222."

Chapter 26

1

The Plot to Kill Jesus

When 3753 Jesus 2424 had finished 5055 all 3956 these 3778 words 3056, He said 3004 to His disciples 3101,
2 "You know 3609 that after 3326 two 1417 days 2250 the Passover 3957 is coming 1096, and the Son 5207 of Man 444 is {to be} handed 3860 over for crucifixion 4717."
3 ¶ Then 5119 the chief 749 priests 749 and the elders 4245 of the people 2992 were gathered 4863 together 4863 in the court 833 of the high 749 priest 749, named 3004 Caiaphas 2533;
4 and they plotted 4823 together 4823 to seize 2902 Jesus 2424 by stealth 1388 and kill 615 Him.
5 But they were saying 3004, "Not during 1722 the festival 1859, otherwise a riot 2351 might occur 1096 among 1722 the people 2992."
6

The Precious Ointment

Now 1161 when Jesus 2424 was in Bethany 963, at the home 3614 of Simon 4613 the leper 3015,
7 a woman 1135 came 4334 to Him with an alabaster 211 vial 211 of very 927 costly 927 perfume 3464, and she poured 2708 it on His head 2776 as He reclined 345 {at the table.}
8 But the disciples 3101 were indignant 23 when they saw 3708 {this,} and said 3004, "Why this 3778 waste 684?
9 "For this 3778 {perfume} might 1410 have been sold 4097 for a high 4183 price 4183 and {the money} given 1325 to the poor 4434."
10 But Jesus 2424, aware 1097 of this, said 3004 to them, "Why 5101 do you bother the woman 1135? For she has done 2038 a good 2570 deed 2041 to Me.
11 "For you always 3842 have 2192 the poor 4434 with you; but you do not always 3842 have 2192 Me.
12 "For when she poured 906 this 3778 perfume 3464 on My body 4983, she did 4160 it to prepare 1779 Me for burial 1779.
13 "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you, wherever this 3778 gospel 2098 is preached 2784 in the whole 3650 world 2889, what 3739 this 3778 woman 3778 has done 4160 will also 2532 be spoken 2980 of in memory 3422 of her."
14

Judas's Bargain

Then 5119 one 1520 of the twelve 1427, named 3004 Judas 2455 Iscariot 2469, went 4198 to the chief 749 priests 749
15 and said 3004, "What 5101 are you willing 2309 to give 1325 me to betray 3860 Him to you?" And they weighed 2476 out thirty 5144 pieces 694 of silver 694 to him.
16 From then 5119 on he {began} looking 2212 for a good 2120 opportunity 2120 to betray 3860 Jesus.
17 ¶ Now 1161 on the first 4413 {day} of Unleavened 106 Bread the disciples 3101 came 4334 to Jesus 2424 and asked 3004, "Where 4226 do You want 2309 us to prepare 2090 for You to eat 2068 the Passover 3957?"
18 And He said 3004, "Go 5217 into the city 4172 to a certain 1170 man 1170, and say 3004 to him, 'The Teacher 1320 says 3004, "My time 2540 is near 1451; I {am to} keep 4160 the Passover 3957 at your house with My disciples 3101."'"
19 The disciples 3101 did 4160 as Jesus 2424 had directed 4929 them; and they prepared 2090 the Passover 3957.
20

The Last Passover

Now 1161 when evening 3798 came 1096, Jesus was reclining 345 {at the table} with the twelve 1427 disciples 3101.
21 As they were eating 2068, He said 3004, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you that one 1520 of you will betray 3860 Me."
22 Being deeply 4970 grieved 3076, they each 1538 one 1520 began 757 to say 3004 to Him, "Surely 3385 not I, Lord 2962?"
23 And He answered 611, "He who dipped 1686 his hand 5495 with Me in the bowl 5165 is the one 3778 who will betray 3860 Me.
24 "The Son 5207 of Man 444 {is to} go 5217, just 2531 as it is written 1125 of Him; but woe 3759 to that man 444 by whom 3739 the Son 5207 of Man 444 is betrayed 3860! It would have been 1510 good 2570 for that man 444 if 1487 he had not been born 1080."
25 And Judas 2455, who was betraying 3860 Him, said 3004, "Surely 3385 it is not I, Rabbi 4461?" Jesus said 3004 to him, "You have said 3004 {it} yourself 4771."
26

The Lord's Supper Instituted

While they were eating 2068, Jesus 2424 took 2983 {some} bread 740, and after a blessing 2127, He broke 2806 {it} and gave 1325 {it} to the disciples 3101, and said 3004, "Take 2983, eat 2068; this 3778 is My body 4983."
27 And when He had taken 2983 a cup 4221 and given 1325 thanks 2168, He gave 1325 {it} to them, saying 3004, "Drink 4095 from it, all 3956 of you;
28 for this 3778 is My blood 129 of the covenant 1242, which is poured 1632 out for many 4183 for forgiveness 859 of sins 266.
29 "But I say 3004 to you, I will not drink 4095 of this 3778 fruit 1079 of the vine 288 from now 737 on until 2193 that day 2250 when 3752 I drink 4095 it new 2537 with you in My Father's 3962 kingdom 932."
30 ¶ After singing 5214 a hymn 5214, they went 1831 out to the Mount 3735 of Olives 1636.
31 ¶ Then 5119 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "You will all 3956 fall 4624 away 4624 because 1722 of Me this 3778 night 3571, for it is written 1125, 'I WILL STRIKE 3960 DOWN 3960 THE SHEPHERD 4166, AND THE SHEEP 4263 OF THE FLOCK 4167 SHALL BE SCATTERED 1287.'
32 "But after 3326 I have been raised 1453, I will go 4254 ahead 4254 of you to Galilee 1056."
33 But Peter 4074 said 3004 to Him, "{Even} though 1487 all 3956 may fall 4624 away 4624 because 1722 of You, I will never 3763 fall 4624 away 4624."
34 Jesus 2424 said 5346 to him, "Truly 281 I say 3004 to you that this 3778 {very} night 3571, before 4250 a rooster 220 crows 5455, you will deny 533 Me three 5151 times 5151."
35 Peter 4074 said 3004 to Him, "Even 2579 if 2579 I have 1163 to die 599 with You, I will not deny 533 You." All 3956 the disciples 3101 said 3004 the same 3668 thing 3668 too 2532.
36

The Garden of Gethsemane

Then 5119 Jesus 2424 came 2064 with them to a place 5564 called 3004 Gethsemane 1068, and said 3004 to His disciples 3101, "Sit 2523 here 847 while 2193 I go 565 over 565 there 1563 and pray 4336."
37 And He took 3880 with Him Peter 4074 and the two 1417 sons 5207 of Zebedee 2199, and began 757 to be grieved 3076 and distressed 85.
38 Then 5119 He said 3004 to them, "My soul 5590 is deeply 4036 grieved 4036, to the point 2193 of death 2288; remain 3306 here 5602 and keep 1127 watch 1127 with Me."
39 ¶ And He went 4281 a little 3398 beyond 4281 {them,} and fell 4098 on His face 4383 and prayed 4336, saying 3004, "My Father 3962, if 1487 it is possible 1415, let this 3778 cup 4221 pass 3928 from Me; yet 4133 not as I will 2309, but as You will."
40 And He came 2064 to the disciples 3101 and found 2147 them sleeping 2518, and said 3004 to Peter 4074, "So 3779, you {men} could 2480 not keep 1127 watch 1127 with Me for one 1520 hour 5610?
41 "Keep 1127 watching 1127 and praying 4336 that you may not enter 1525 into temptation 3986; the spirit 4151 is willing 4289, but the flesh 4561 is weak 772."
42 ¶ He went 565 away 565 again 3825 a second 1208 time 1208 and prayed 4336, saying 3004, "My Father 3962, if 1487 this 3778 cannot pass 3928 away 3928 unless I drink 4095 it, Your will 2307 be done 1096."
43 Again 3825 He came 2064 and found 2147 them sleeping 2518, for their eyes 3788 were heavy 916.
44 And He left 863 them again 3825, and went 565 away 565 and prayed 4336 a third 5154 time 5154, saying 3004 the same 846 thing 3056 once 3825 more 3825.
45 Then 5119 He came 2064 to the disciples 3101 and said 3004 to them, "Are you still 3062 sleeping 2518 and resting 373? Behold 2400, the hour 5610 is at hand 1448 and the Son 5207 of Man 444 is being betrayed 3860 into the hands 5495 of sinners 268.
46 "Get 1453 up, let us be going 71; behold 2400, the one who betrays 3860 Me is at hand 1448!"
47

Jesus' Betrayal and Arrest

While He was still 2089 speaking 2980, behold 2400, Judas 2455, one 1520 of the twelve 1427, came 2064 up accompanied by a large 4183 crowd 3793 with swords 3162 and clubs 3586, {who came} from the chief 749 priests 749 and elders 4245 of the people 2992.
48 Now 1161 he who was betraying 3860 Him gave 1325 them a sign 4592, saying 3004, "Whomever I kiss 5368, He is the one; seize 2902 Him."
49 Immediately 2112 Judas went 4334 to Jesus 2424 and said 3004, "Hail 5463, Rabbi 4461!" and kissed 2705 Him.
50 And Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "Friend 2083, {do} what 3739 you have 3918 come 3918 for." Then 5119 they came 4334 and laid 1911 hands 5495 on Jesus 2424 and seized 2902 Him.
51 ¶ And behold 2400, one 1520 of those 3588 who 3588 were with Jesus 2424 reached 1614 and drew 645 out his sword 3162, and struck 3960 the slave 1401 of the high 749 priest 749 and cut 851 off 851 his ear 5621.
52 Then 5119 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "Put 654 your sword 3162 back 654 into its place 5117; for all 3956 those 3588 who take 2983 up the sword 3162 shall perish 622 by the sword 3162.
53 "Or 2228 do you think 1380 that I cannot appeal 3870 to My Father 3962, and He will at once 737 put 3936 at My disposal 3936 more 4183 than twelve 1427 legions 3003 of angels 32?
54 "How 4459 then 3767 will the Scriptures 1124 be fulfilled 4137, {which say} that it must 1163 happen 1096 this 3779 way 3779?"
55 ¶ At that time 5610 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to the crowds 3793, "Have you come 1831 out with swords 3162 and clubs 3586 to arrest 4815 Me as {you would} against 1909 a robber 3027? Every 2596 day 2250 I used to sit 2516 in the temple 2413 teaching 1321 and you did not seize 2902 Me.
56 "But all 3650 this 3778 has taken 1096 place 1096 to fulfill 4137 the Scriptures 1124 of the prophets 4396." Then 5119 all 3956 the disciples 3101 left 863 Him and fled 5343.
57

Jesus before Caiaphas

Those 3588 who had seized 2902 Jesus 2424 led 520 Him away 520 to Caiaphas 2533, the high 749 priest 749, where 3699 the scribes 1122 and the elders 4245 were gathered 4863 together 4863.
58 But Peter 4074 was following 190 Him at a distance 3113 as far 2193 as the courtyard 833 of the high 749 priest 749, and entered 1525 in, and sat 2521 down 2521 with the officers 5257 to see 3708 the outcome 5056.
59 ¶ Now 1161 the chief 749 priests 749 and the whole 3650 Council 4892 kept trying 2212 to obtain 2212 false 5577 testimony 5577 against 2596 Jesus 2424, so 3704 that they might put 2289 Him to death 2289.
60 They did not find 2147 {any,} even though many 4183 false 5577 witnesses 5577 came 4334 forward 4334. But later 5305 on two 1417 came 4334 forward 4334,
61 and said 3004, "This 3778 man 3778 stated 5346, 'I am 1410 able 1410 to destroy 2647 the temple 3485 of God 2316 and to rebuild 3618 it in three 5140 days 2250.'"
62 The high 749 priest 749 stood 450 up and said 3004 to Him, "Do You not answer 611? What 5101 is it that these 3778 men 3778 are testifying 2649 against 2649 You?"
63 But Jesus 2424 kept 4623 silent 4623. And the high 749 priest 749 said 3004 to Him, "I adjure 1844 You by the living 2198 God 2316, that You tell 3004 us whether 1487 You are the Christ 5547, the Son 5207 of God 2316."
64 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to him, "You have said 3004 it {yourself;} nevertheless 4133 I tell 3004 you, hereafter you will see 3708 THE SON 5207 OF MAN 444 SITTING 2521 AT THE RIGHT 1188 HAND 1188 OF POWER 1411, and COMING 2064 ON THE CLOUDS 3507 OF HEAVEN 3772."
65 ¶ Then 5119 the high 749 priest 749 tore 1284 his robes 2440 and said 3004, "He has blasphemed 987! What 5101 further 2089 need 5532 do we have 2192 of witnesses 3144? Behold 2396, you have now 3568 heard 191 the blasphemy 988;
66 what 5101 do you think 1380?" They answered 611, "He deserves 1777 death 2288!"
67 ¶ Then 5119 they spat 1716 in His face 4383 and beat 2852 Him with their fists 2852; and others 3588 slapped 4474 Him,
68 and said 3004, "Prophesy 4395 to us, You Christ 5547; who 5101 is the one who hit 3817 You?"
69

Peter's Denials

Now 1161 Peter 4074 was sitting 2521 outside 1854 in the courtyard 833, and a servant-girl 3814 came 4334 to him and said 3004, "You too 2532 were with Jesus 2424 the Galilean 1057."
70 But he denied 720 {it} before 1715 them all 3956, saying 3004, "I do not know 3609 what 5101 you are talking 3004 about."
71 When he had gone 1831 out to the gateway 4440, another 243 {servant-girl} saw 3708 him and said 3004 to those 3588 who 3588 were there 1563, "This 3778 man 3778 was with Jesus 2424 of Nazareth 3480."
72 And again 3825 he denied 720 {it} with an oath 3727, "I do not know 3609 the man 444."
73 A little 3398 later 3326 the bystanders 2476 came 4334 up and said 3004 to Peter 4074, "Surely 230 you too 2532 are {one} of them; for even 2532 the way 2981 you talk 2981 gives 4160 you away."
74 Then 5119 he began 757 to curse 2617 and swear 3660, "I do not know 3609 the man 444!" And immediately 2117 a rooster 220 crowed 5455.
75 And Peter 4074 remembered 3403 the word 4487 which Jesus 2424 had said 3004, "Before 4250 a rooster 220 crows 5455, you will deny 533 Me three 5151 times 5151." And he went 1831 out and wept 2799 bitterly 4090.

Chapter 27

1

Judas's Remorse

Now 1161 when morning 4407 came 1096, all 3956 the chief 749 priests 749 and the elders 4245 of the people 2992 conferred together against 2596 Jesus 2424 to put 2289 Him to death 2289;
2 and they bound 1210 Him, and led 520 Him away 520 and delivered 3860 Him to Pilate 4091 the governor 2232.
3 ¶ Then 5119 when Judas 2455, who had betrayed 3860 Him, saw 3708 that He had been condemned 2632, he felt 3338 remorse 3338 and returned 4762 the thirty 5144 pieces 694 of silver 694 to the chief 749 priests 749 and elders 4245,
4 saying 3004, "I have sinned 264 by betraying 3860 innocent 121 blood 129." But they said 3004, "What 5101 is that to us? See 3708 {to that} yourself 4771!"
5 And he threw 4496 the pieces 694 of silver 694 into the temple 3485 sanctuary 3485 and departed 402; and he went 565 away 565 and hanged 519 himself.
6 The chief 749 priests 749 took 2983 the pieces 694 of silver 694 and said 3004, "It is not lawful 1832 to put 906 them into the temple 2878 treasury 2878, since 1893 it is the price 5092 of blood 129."
7 And they conferred together 4824 and with the money 846 bought 59 the Potter's 2763 Field 68 as a burial 5027 place 5027 for strangers 3581.
8 For this 1352 reason 1352 that field 68 has been called 2564 the Field 68 of Blood 129 to this 4594 day 4594.
9 Then 5119 that which was spoken 3004 through 1223 Jeremiah 2408 the prophet 4396 was fulfilled 4137: "AND THEY TOOK 2983 THE THIRTY 5144 PIECES 694 OF SILVER 694, THE PRICE 5092 OF THE ONE WHOSE 3739 PRICE 5091 HAD BEEN SET 5091 by the sons 5207 of Israel 2474;
10 AND THEY GAVE 1325 THEM FOR THE POTTER'S 2763 FIELD 68, AS THE LORD 2962 DIRECTED 4929 ME."
11

Jesus before Pilate

Now 1161 Jesus 2424 stood 2476 before 1715 the governor 2232, and the governor 2232 questioned 1905 Him, saying 3004, "Are You the King 935 of the Jews 2453?" And Jesus 2424 said 5346 to him, "{It is as} you say 3004."
12 And while 1722 He was being accused 2723 by the chief 749 priests 749 and elders 4245, He did not answer 611.
13 Then 5119 Pilate 4091 said 3004 to Him, "Do You not hear 191 how 4214 many 4214 things 4214 they testify 2649 against 2649 You?"
14 And He did not answer 611 him with regard 4314 to even 3761 a {single} charge 4487, so 5620 the governor 2232 was quite 3029 amazed 2296.
15 ¶ Now 1161 at {the} feast 1859 the governor 2232 was accustomed 1486 to release 630 for the people 3793 {any} one 1520 prisoner 1198 whom 3739 they wanted 2309.
16 At that time 5119 they were holding 2192 a notorious 1978 prisoner 1198, called 3004 Barabbas 912.
17 So 3767 when the people 846 gathered 4863 together 4863, Pilate 4091 said 3004 to them, "Whom 5101 do you want 2309 me to release 630 for you? Barabbas 912, or 2228 Jesus 2424 who is called 3004 Christ 5547?"
18 For he knew 3609 that because 1223 of envy 5355 they had handed 3860 Him over.
19 ¶ While he was sitting 2521 on the judgment 968 seat 968, his wife 1135 sent 649 him {a message,} saying 3004, "Have nothing 3367 to do with that righteous 1342 Man 1342; for last 4594 night 4594 I suffered 3958 greatly 4183 in a dream 3677 because 1223 of Him."
20 But the chief 749 priests 749 and the elders 4245 persuaded 3982 the crowds 3793 to ask 154 for Barabbas 912 and to put 622 Jesus 2424 to death 622.
21 But the governor 2232 said 3004 to them, "Which 5101 of the two 1417 do you want 2309 me to release 630 for you?" And they said 3004, "Barabbas 912."
22 Pilate 4091 said 3004 to them, "Then 3767 what 5101 shall I do 4160 with Jesus 2424 who is called 3004 Christ 5547?" They all 3956 said 3004, "Crucify 4717 Him!"
23 And he said 5346, "Why 1063, what 5101 evil 2556 has He done 4160?" But they kept shouting 2896 all 4057 the more 4057, saying 3004, "Crucify 4717 Him!"
24 ¶ When Pilate 4091 saw 3708 that he was accomplishing 5623 nothing 3762, but rather 3123 that a riot 2351 was starting 1096, he took 2983 water 5204 and washed 633 his hands 5495 in front 2713 of the crowd 3793, saying 3004, "I am 1510 innocent 121 of this 3778 Man's 3778 blood 129; see 3708 {to that} yourselves 4771."
25 And all 3956 the people 2992 said 3004, "His blood 129 shall be on us and on our children 5043!"
26 Then 5119 he released 630 Barabbas 912 for them; but after having Jesus 2424 scourged 5417, he handed 3860 Him over to be crucified 4717.
27

Jesus Is Mocked

Then 5119 the soldiers 4757 of the governor 2232 took 3880 Jesus 2424 into the Praetorium 4232 and gathered 4863 the whole 3650 {Roman} cohort 4686 around 1909 Him.
28 They stripped 1562 Him and put 4060 a scarlet 2847 robe 5511 on Him.
29 And after twisting 4120 together a crown 4735 of thorns 173, they put 2007 it on His head 2776, and a reed 2563 in His right 1188 hand 1188; and they knelt 1120 down 1120 before 1715 Him and mocked 1702 Him, saying 3004, "Hail 5463, King 935 of the Jews 2453!"
30 They spat 1716 on Him, and took 2983 the reed 2563 and {began} to beat 5180 Him on the head 2776.
31 After 3753 they had mocked 1702 Him, they took 1562 the {scarlet} robe 5511 off 1562 Him and put 1746 His {own} garments 2440 back on Him, and led 520 Him away 520 to crucify 4717 Him.
32 ¶ As they were coming 1831 out, they found 2147 a man 444 of Cyrene 2956 named 3686 Simon 4613, whom 3778 they pressed 29 into service 29 to bear 142 His cross 4716.
33

The Crucifixion

And when they came 2064 to a place 5117 called 3004 Golgotha 1115, which 3739 means 3004 Place 5117 of a Skull 2898,
34 they gave 1325 Him wine 3631 to drink 4095 mixed 3396 with gall 5521; and after tasting 1089 {it,} He was unwilling to drink 4095.
35 ¶ And when they had crucified 4717 Him, they divided 1266 up His garments 2440 among 1266 themselves by casting 906 lots 2819.
36 And sitting 2521 down 2521, they {began} to keep 5083 watch 5083 over 5083 Him there 1563.
37 And above 1883 His head 2776 they put 2007 up the charge 156 against 156 Him which read 1125, "THIS 3778 IS JESUS 2424 THE KING 935 OF THE JEWS 2453."
38 ¶ At that time 5119 two 1417 robbers 3027 were crucified 4717 with Him, one 1520 on the right 1188 and one 1520 on the left 2176.
39 And those 3588 passing 3899 by were hurling 987 abuse 987 at Him, wagging 2795 their heads 2776
40 and saying 3004, "You who {are going to} destroy 2647 the temple 3485 and rebuild 3618 it in three 5140 days 2250, save 4982 Yourself 4572! If 1487 You are the Son 5207 of God 2316, come 2597 down 2597 from the cross 4716."
41 In the same 3668 way 3668 the chief 749 priests 749 also 2532, along with the scribes 1122 and elders 4245, were mocking 1702 {Him} and saying 3004,
42 "He saved 4982 others 243; He cannot save 4982 Himself 1438. He is the King 935 of Israel 2474; let Him now 3568 come 2597 down 2597 from the cross 4716, and we will believe 4100 in Him.
43 "HE TRUSTS 3982 IN GOD 2316; LET GOD 2316 RESCUE 4506 {Him} now 3568, IF 1487 HE DELIGHTS 2309 IN HIM; for He said 3004, 'I am 1510 the Son 5207 of God 2316.'"
44 The robbers 3027 who had been crucified 4957 with Him were also 2532 insulting 3679 Him with the same 846 words.
45 ¶ Now 1161 from the sixth 1623 hour 5610 darkness 4655 fell 1096 upon all 3956 the land 1093 until 2193 the ninth 1729 hour 5610.
46 About 4012 the ninth 1729 hour 5610 Jesus 2424 cried 310 out with a loud 3173 voice 5456, saying 3004, "ELI 2241, ELI 2241, LAMA 2982 SABACHTHANI 4518?" that is, "MY GOD 2316, MY GOD 2316, WHY 2444 HAVE YOU FORSAKEN 1459 ME?"
47 And some 5100 of those 3588 who were standing 2476 there 1563, when they heard 191 it, {began} saying 3004, "This 3778 man 3778 is calling 5455 for Elijah 2243."
48 Immediately 2112 one 1520 of them ran 5143, and taking 2983 a sponge 4699, he filled 4092 it with sour 3690 wine 3690 and put 4060 it on a reed 2563, and gave 4222 Him a drink 4222.
49 But the rest 3062 {of them} said 3004, "Let 863 us see 3708 whether 1487 Elijah 2243 will come 2064 to save 4982 Him."
50 And Jesus 2424 cried 2896 out again 3825 with a loud 3173 voice 5456, and yielded 863 up His spirit 4151.
51 And behold 2400, the veil 2665 of the temple 3485 was torn 4977 in two 1417 from top 509 to bottom 2736; and the earth 1093 shook 4579 and the rocks 4073 were split 4977.
52 The tombs 3419 were opened 455, and many 4183 bodies 4983 of the saints 40 who had fallen 2837 asleep 2837 were raised 1453;
53 and coming 1831 out of the tombs 3419 after 3326 His resurrection 1454 they entered 1525 the holy 40 city 4172 and appeared 1718 to many 4183.
54 Now 1161 the centurion 1543, and those 3588 who were with him keeping 5083 guard 5083 over 5083 Jesus 2424, when they saw 3708 the earthquake 4578 and the things that were happening 1096, became very 4970 frightened 5399 and said 3004, "Truly 230 this 3778 was the Son 5207 of God 2316!"
55 ¶ Many 4183 women 1135 were there 1563 looking 2334 on from a distance 3113, who 3748 had followed 190 Jesus 2424 from Galilee 1056 while ministering 1247 to Him.
56 Among 1722 them was Mary 3137 Magdalene 3094, and Mary 3137 the mother 3384 of James 2385 and Joseph 2501, and the mother 3384 of the sons 5207 of Zebedee 2199.
57

Jesus Is Buried

When it was evening 3798, there came 2064 a rich 4145 man 444 from Arimathea 707, named 5122 Joseph 2501, who 3739 himself 846 had also 2532 become 3100 a disciple 3100 of Jesus 2424.
58 This 3778 man 3778 went 4334 to Pilate 4091 and asked 154 for the body 4983 of Jesus 2424. Then 5119 Pilate 4091 ordered 2753 it to be given 591 {to him.}
59 And Joseph 2501 took 2983 the body 4983 and wrapped 1794 it in a clean 2513 linen 4616 cloth 4616,
60 and laid 5087 it in his own new 2537 tomb 3419, which 3739 he had hewn 2998 out in the rock 4073; and he rolled 4351 a large 3173 stone 3037 against the entrance 2374 of the tomb 3419 and went 565 away 565.
61 And Mary 3137 Magdalene 3094 was there 1563, and the other 243 Mary 3137, sitting 2521 opposite 561 the grave 5028.
62 ¶ Now 1161 on the next 1887 day 1887, the day 1887 after 3326 the preparation 3904, the chief 749 priests 749 and the Pharisees 5330 gathered 4863 together 4863 with Pilate 4091,
63 and said 3004, "Sir 2962, we remember 3403 that when He was still 2089 alive 2198 that deceiver 4108 said 3004, 'After 3326 three 5140 days 2250 I {am to} rise 1453 again 1453.'
64 "Therefore 3767, give 2753 orders 2753 for the grave 5028 to be made 805 secure 805 until 2193 the third 5154 day 2250, otherwise 3379 His disciples 3101 may come 2064 and steal 2813 Him away 2813 and say 3004 to the people 2992, 'He has risen 1453 from the dead 3498,' and the last 2078 deception 4106 will be worse 5501 than the first 4413."
65 Pilate 4091 said 5346 to them, "You have 2192 a guard 2892; go 5217, make 805 it {as} secure 805 as you know 3609 how 3609."
66 And they went 4198 and made 805 the grave 5028 secure 805, and along with the guard 2892 they set 4972 a seal 4972 on the stone 3037.

Chapter 28

1

Jesus Is Risen!

Now 1161 after 3796 the Sabbath 4521, as it began to dawn 2020 toward 1519 the first 1520 {day} of the week 4521, Mary 3137 Magdalene 3094 and the other 243 Mary 3137 came 2064 to look 2334 at the grave 5028.
2 And behold 2400, a severe 3173 earthquake 4578 had occurred 1096, for an angel 32 of the Lord 2962 descended 2597 from heaven 3772 and came 4334 and rolled 617 away 617 the stone 3037 and sat 2521 upon it.
3 And his appearance 1490 was like 5613 lightning 796, and his clothing 1742 as white 3022 as snow 5510.
4 The guards 5083 shook 4579 for fear 5401 of him and became 1096 like 5613 dead 3498 men 3498.
5 The angel 32 said 3004 to the women 1135, "Do not be afraid 5399; for I know 3609 that you are looking 2212 for Jesus 2424 who has been crucified 4717.
6 "He is not here 5602, for He has risen 1453, just 2531 as He said 3004. Come 1205, see 3708 the place 5117 where 3699 He was lying 2749.
7 "Go 4198 quickly 5035 and tell 3004 His disciples 3101 that He has risen 1453 from the dead 3498; and behold 2400, He is going 4254 ahead 4254 of you into Galilee 1056, there 1563 you will see 3708 Him; behold 2400, I have told 3004 you."
8 ¶ And they left 565 the tomb 3419 quickly 5035 with fear 5401 and great 3173 joy 5479 and ran 5143 to report 518 it to His disciples 3101.
9 And behold 2400, Jesus 2424 met 5221 them and greeted them. And they came 4334 up and took 2902 hold 2902 of His feet 4228 and worshiped 4352 Him.
10 Then 5119 Jesus 2424 said 3004 to them, "Do not be afraid 5399; go 5217 and take 518 word 518 to My brethren 80 to leave 565 for Galilee 1056, and there 1563 they will see 3708 Me."
11 ¶ Now 1161 while they were on their way 4198, some 5100 of the guard 2892 came 2064 into the city 4172 and reported 518 to the chief 749 priests 749 all 537 that had happened 1096.
12 And when they had assembled 4863 with the elders 4245 and consulted together 4824, they gave 1325 a large 2425 sum 2425 of money 694 to the soldiers 4757,
13 and said 3004, "You are to say 3004, 'His disciples 3101 came 2064 by night 3571 and stole 2813 Him away 2813 while we were asleep 2837.'
14 "And if 1437 this 3778 should come 191 to the governor's 2232 ears 191, we will win 3982 him over 3982 and keep 4160 you out of trouble 275."
15 And they took 2983 the money 694 and did 4160 as they had been instructed 1321; and this 3778 story 3056 was widely 1310 spread 1310 among 3844 the Jews 2453, {and is} to this 4594 day 4594.
16

The Great Commission

¶ But the eleven 1733 disciples 3101 proceeded 4198 to Galilee 1056, to the mountain 3735 which 3757 Jesus 2424 had designated 5021.
17 When they saw 3708 Him, they worshiped 4352 {Him;} but some 3588 were doubtful 1365.
18 And Jesus 2424 came 4334 up and spoke 2980 to them, saying 3004, "All 3956 authority 1849 has been given 1325 to Me in heaven 3772 and on earth 1093.
19 "Go 4198 therefore 3767 and make 3100 disciples 3100 of all 3956 the nations 1484, baptizing 907 them in the name 3686 of the Father 3962 and the Son 5207 and the Holy 40 Spirit 4151,
20 teaching 1321 them to observe 5083 all 3956 that I commanded 1781 you; and lo 2400, I am 1510 with you always, even 2193 to the end 4930 of the age 165."
